In internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into emotional responses.
--- wikipedia

troll
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup
or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

-- Most popular definition in Urban Dictionary.

The troll is defined by his intent to provoke readers. Coltom's disbelief is founded in his apparent bewilderment at the fact that there's such thing as "best troll", which implies that a troll can be "good". His problem is purely semantic. Good doesn't necessarily refer to something that is morally agreeable but can also refer to something that is well done. I can call someone the best hitman for his efficiency in disappearing people without leaving evidence, but that doesn't make murder noble or morally agreeable. It just makes him a good hitman, technically speaking. He's someone that does his job well.

The logic over the best/worst troll categories that led me to win both prices is precisely this interpretative ambiguity. There were two ways to define each category.
Best Troll:
A) A troll that is good, as Coltom interpreted it. The troll that people like the most (and, thus, fails to do his job most often).
B) A troll who is the best at his job or the opposite of A, someone who doesn't fail to disrupt the community.
Worst Troll:
A) The opposite of A1 and equivalent of B1. A troll that is "bad", because he disrupt the community and people hate him.
B) Opposite of B1 and equivalent of A1. A troll that is well liked or tolerated and, thus, fails often in his intent of trolling people.

My guess is that different people interpreted each category differently (with either A or B definitions), leading me to win seemingly contradictive titles. Personally, I think it's trivial. I feel like the actual impetus behind this discussion is borne out of the fact that such trumping defeats in both categories establish me as the supreme troll of neocodex, much to Coltom's dismay after he repeatedly proclaimed himself "Troll King". What we are seeing here is naked envy, but the points still deserved some attention.

It's interesting that you previously claimed you weren't trolling but now accept that you were/are.

What it really means is that people don't like you, and since the shitstorm of which you were at the eye is still fresh in everyone's mind, they voted for you in what they felt were "negative" categories. This should not be interpreted as confirmation that you are any type of troll, good or bad. You are no troll. Neither is coltom.

Conventional definitions for internet slang are not necessarily accurate to the concept that they attempt to define.

Shrug. Trolls are also defined as dimwitted nordic mythical entities that eat children.

All definitions are conventional. Lrn2linguistics. Words are defined by their use, and if the most popular definition in urban dictionary defines it like this, along with wikipedia citing it the same way, then that is the culturally agreed upon meaning of the slang term. If you want to go and define troll in some other way, be my guest. That definition, however, is not valid and purely idiosyncratic.

I think everyone that fell for the political rally against me during the elections is slow witted and sheepish. The kind of people that would have willingly participated in the holocaust had they lived in Nazi Germany. Indeed, a threat to any functioning democracy.

    That's another topic, though.

There are so many things I wish you could Lrn2do. Carry on a conversation without acting like a 12 year old sticking his tongue out at everyone and using words that he doesn't understand is one of them.

Neither you nor coltom try to hide your intentions on this forum at all. There is nothing subtle about you. You leave no mystery. There is nothing intriguing about you or your persona. Being condescending and argumentative does not a troll make. You are a flamebaiter, nothing more.

This is called a "no true Scotsman" fallacy. You make no reference to a definition, you merely put a term in qualitative and personal terms (NO SUBTLETY THEREFORE POOR TROLL) in order to justify an assertion that isn't based on a generally agreed upon criteria. I did find a general definition, and I did disrupt the community (as you yourself noted when mentioning the shitstorm I created). Therefore, according to culturally agreed upon definition of the term, I am a troll and a good one.

Can you please tell me how I'm using words I don't understand? I think you're the one doing that in this discussion. :nahnah:
