You'll have to ask one of those pesky admins to do that.

Ok all this talk of 'kali ma' made me go and rewatch Temple of Doom. Awesome film - I think it's definitely my favourite in the trilogy (no one even dare try and acknowledge that piece of crap they called the fourth in the Indiana Jones series)

    Frozen monkey brains anyone?

Irregardless has been in use way before the internet. 18th century, matter of fact.

Oh you're still talking about that matter? That was just a half-assed whim.

I love when someone name drops to get a reaction.
    Seems unfair to coltom.

I define a troll as simply someone who antagonizes to get entertainment from a negative response.

Whenever I log on I see a new coltom status discussing me. I felt it was only appropriate to address him explicitly and offer some answers to his inquisitive mind.

I went by this definition I found.

    http://www.urbandict...term=Good Troll

While that can hardly be called first principles, I do have one really important question.

Didn't anyone else have a thing to do on a three day weekend than argue with Camisole?

For Camisole, I have a simple statement. There is a point you have to admit that your penis is so small, that you have to call it a clitoris. You are way past that point.

P.S. We went to see the Nina, Pinta today, and then got some crabs.

It was only a two day weekend for me, I have to work tomorrow. But I drank beer, "held hands" with my significant other, and watched Korean Drama and Star Trek Deep Space Nine. So, pretty much a great weekend, even though I had the runs.

LOL @ the crabs bit. No Santa Maria??

Still a double negative and not actually a real word though.

    Pretty sure it was Sweeney.

    What is a troll?

Since that was brought up... Sweeney I apologize for not having a complete understanding of the term at the time. It was wrong of me to accuse you of being a troll then. I was just being butt-hurt because you were cleverly outwitting me. Learned my lesson since then.

    Why we hate colonel tom

Coltom was gracious enough to make us a thread addressing this already, now you're just repeating conversations.

I remember a few years ago when Tara Gillesbie was doing the rounds on the Harry Potter fanfic scene with her truly diabolical badfic "My Immortal". Now that was the definition of Troll. It's hard to put into words (partly due to the lingering trauma I suffer after reading her dreadful story). But, Gillesbie was subtle enough to cast doubt among her legions of "fans". Was she a troll? Or was she genuineley the worst writer to ever grace the murky world of fanfic? She had to be a troll. She just had to be. But anyway, she weaked havoc wherever she went with just a minimal effort.

Fact 1. The term "Good Troll" was invoked by, and I am not sure, Nymh.
Fact 2. Nymh says that people don't know what "Good Troll means"
Fact 3. An internet search indicates that in the jargon of the day, a Good troll, and I am paraphrasing is basically a person that uses aggressive tactics, that often copies the trollish behavior of turning the argument into a personal attack on the "bad" Trolls character, intelligence, and in the case of Camisole, the obvious fact that he's not been inside a vagina since his mother gave birth to him. A good troll, is by definition, interested in maintaining the order and civility of a venue, and only acts when provoked.

Conclusion. Nymh is right, this is not a term of the day I was familiar with.

Reading both coltom's and many of the comments in Sweeney's thread, I've concluded that people tend to equalize trolling with fallacious argumentation. Coltom equates it with personal attacks, while most people tend to dismiss arguments on the basis of "trolling", as if such a claim made them invalid ipso facto.

My two cents on the subject is that the word is being unnecessarily moralized, politicized, and being defined by extraneous criteria. Of course someone may troll through arguing fallaciously or personally attacking members of a community, but a person may troll by deliberately entering a Christian creationist forum with a well-reasoned defense of the theory of evolution. What defines a troll isn't content, it is intent. What makes someone a troll or not isn't his actions, but why he chooses to commit said actions. If his decision is borne out of a will to piss off people around him, then he's a troll. Trolling is essentially an intent defined term, like malice or virtue, which is why it is so difficult to take actions against trolls. One can rarely account for the deliberations of others on a well-grounded case.
