Well you're currently in the lead for most irritating poster so I don't think the problem lies with us. Honestly I'm sure you're a great guy outside of codex but on codex your posts make you come off as a condescending asshole. Ever since I've came back I've gotten the impression from you that you're constantly bickering with people and refuse to accept the fact that someone has an opinion that isn't the same as yours. I.E. your diatribe in this thread about how opinions regarding an online popularity contest are wrong.

I can't decide if I am supposed to take these nominations seriously or think they're all in good fun.  It seems to go back and forth depending on the point that someone is trying to make.

 

For example, Pyro being nominated for next user to be banned or most likely to leave soon is just fun and games, right;  but saying that the "problem" lies with someone because they're leading a certain category implies that these nominations hold a certain amount of weight.  Is it fun and games or srs bsns?  I can't figuRE IT OUT AGHHGH

There's been a huge shift in the population of this forum over the past year or two, and I don't fit in with this new crowd. You're all young, self-involved, undereducated and wilfully ignorant. You revel in your foolishness, and it's disgusting. I hold many of you in the highest contempt.

And so do many others, though they choose not to be open about it for their own reasons.

WHY I’M ALLOWED TO THINK PEOPLE ARE STUPID

A “short” essay.
Here’s the thing. If I have an opinion that I’m willing to defend, it’s because I have thought relatively deeply about it and am therefore capable of defending it with some skill. Other people, it seems to me, prefer to live the unconsidered life.
If people disagree with me over a topic, and are able to defend their opinion with the same (or better) skill, showing that they have given thought to their opinion, then those people are not stupid.
On the other hand, if someone disagrees with me over a topic, but cannot back up their opinion with even the most basic reasoning skills, then that person is stupid.
To take an example; I am a huge fan of the author Garth Nix. I think he creates fantastically consistent and enjoyable fantasy worlds in his writing, and explores them with a spectacular talent for engaging narrative. Person A disagrees, saying she prefers the work of Philip Pullman, whose fantasy epics dwarf Nix’s work in their ambition and subversive subtext. Person B also dislikes Nix, because the first of Nix’s books he ever tried to read had a female lead, and he couldn’t get through the first chapter.
One of these people has the basis for an engaging and valid discussion. The other does not. If Person B pushes for a conversation over the merits of Garth Nix, then I will happily obliterate his arguments, take pleasure in doing so, and subsequently shore up my opinion of Person B as a moron.
Two more things to note:
There are things about which I am ignorant. Hundreds upon thousands of things. I could not have a discussion about the relative skill of football teams. That makes me ignorant on that topic, but not stupid. What would make me stupid would be insisting on a confrontational dialogue regardless of my lack of reason and knowledge.
There are also people who would disagree with me over matters of a factual nature. These people are either ignorant, genuinely stupid, or wilfully deceptive. Only the first set of people can potentially be redeemed, by exposure to evidence. Sadly, most of them then slip into the “genuinely stupid” category.
