Judging from the thread's response i think i was the key source of enthusiasm.
Madoka's a show that is largely driven by its narrative rather than its characters (see f/z, gurren lagann). I'll agree largely that most characters didn't have much personality to show (through sayaka's story was really heart-wenching) but its really not what the show is driving at; its more about how screwed-up the system is and how hope can ultimately triumph over cynicism. For me, it's how the little twists, foreshadowing and build-up help to pull off the satisfaction of the ending and it was largely well-executed imo. There's alot of little details popped in as well, such as the whole faustian-parallels, how the op is actually homura's pv.etc.
