It'ss that time of the year again where animation studios come up with their new line-up of shows for the season! Given the usual flow of mediocrity consisting of weekaboo, ~myharem~, and boring stuff, is there still anything good and refreshing for this season? Let's find out!

*Note that this is only my opinion and if you don't agree, that's completely cool! Just harp along and share what seems interesting. Unless you think that ~my little sis can't be that cute~ is good.

No one is serious right? Hahahaha :(

http://www.crunchyro...013-anime-chart

Devil Survivor 2: The Animation

- I haven't played the game, but somehow got it spoiled for me. The story's good with pretty interesting characters through some ~anime~ parts are meh.  It's pretty decent for an adaption through some parts tend to grate a little. Basically about a scenario where you realise that a phone app, called the Nicaea is forecasting future deaths and one of them is you and your companions. Demons pop up and the world (or basically japan) goes to hell. Directed by Seiji Kishi (Persona 4, Sunred) so he knows how to do an adaption.

The Flowers of Evil

- About the exploits of a guy who gets caught stealing gym clothes and is forced to go along with his captor, basically the girl he loathes. Through my synopsis sounds like crap, don't make it let you down! The story varies between the different characters fairly well and the atmosphere is really chill. One thing that gets on viewers so far is the rotoscoping which is really..weird. And I'm being mild.

Seriously. Take a look for yourselves and judge.

It's being produced by ZEXCS, directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, Detroit Metal City), with the screenplay by Aki Itami (Mushishi).

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

-Original mecha IP by Production I.G., being directed by Kazuya Murata (directed FMA: Brotherhood movie, lots of work on Code Geass and Eureka Seven) with the script/series composition by Gen Urobuchi (wrote Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Blassreiter, Psycho-Pass). FMA Brotherhood was a pretty good adaption after the botching first season, and Gen (despite his really really despair induced writing) really writes a damn good script. About a guy who battles space aliens till he falls into a time hole, ends up reaching Earth which is completely flooded, with ships being the only signs of habitation on this world. Definitely pumped for this one.

The Space Battleship Yamato remake by XEBEC and AIC we’ve been waiting to get on TV for basically a year now. It's been showing up in theaters and on DVD for about a year now, and has been selling like hotcakes / been received highly well. Earth has been turned into a radioactive desert wasteldand by constant attacks from aliens from the planet Gamilus, forcing humanity underground. A friendly alien race from the planet Iscandar contacts humanity and gives them blueprints to build a powerful space battleship capable of retrieving a device to clean the planet before humanity is made totally extinct. The name of that ship... is the Space Battleship Yamato. The original Yamato was a classic, so hopefully somebody will subtitle this.

Anime adaptation of the award-winning and record-breaking manga being animated by Production IG and Wit Studio (one of IG’s subsidiaries), and directed by Araki Tetsurou (Death Note, Guilty Crown, Highschool of the Dead). Tetsurou is good at adaptations, not so much otherwise. The last bastion of humanity in a world beset by man-eating giants struggles in the midst of conspiracy and disaster. The actual manga which it was adapted from is a blast, with extremely believable characters, a smashing plot and unique drawing style. Really really really pumped to see this.

And that's it for the show segment. If this isn't your cup of tea, you can try the Anime Mirai / Future Project . Basically a series of shorts made by request of the Cultural affairs of Japan. I hear they're all good, but I'm really digging Little Witch Academia. Made by the same folks at Trigger who were largely from Gainax (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Panty and Stocking). They're extremely talented folks. Don't take me at my word through, see this for yourself and judge.

that was a joke and those of you who take it seriously should be ashamed of yourelves

And that's it for now. I hope that some of you will seriously enjoy this stuff, it's really good!
Discuss anything you want about the season here.

What? You're not watching Ore no Imouto? It's AOTS, though!

I'm completely serious, too. It's my favorite show this season. Devil Survivor would be for the opening song alone, but Oreimo has ClariS.

I wish you were kidding  :( I did find it entertaining for the wrong reasons through

Devil survivor's op was pretty good too. At first i felt that it didn't fit the theme (given the apocalyptic story) but realised that the plot wasn't that serious anyway so yea.

Basically ~sibling love~ and otaku justification and that's just the tip of the iceberg

Never really caught onto it, but it's a remake of the classic 1974 series. You can check it out here.

Anyway Attack on Titan is really really good, living up to standards. Will catch up with my thoughts later on.

The story of the second game (and now the anime) is lighthearted and focuses on surviving, and not on the sudden apocalyptic setting. I feel the ending song fits much less than the opening does.

It's the story of two siblings who have had a strained relationship from a young age have a chance to rekindle what they lost years ago. Many people try to find to be worse off than it is because of the wacky ending from the end of the PSP(?) game where you find out she's not blood related so they do the snu snu and have kids. There's also similar endings for every other girl in the game.

Also if you watched the 1st episode of the second season, you'd see a scene where he has a moment after having thoughts of the girl, one that isn't his sister, that confessed to him at the end of the first season. Obviously, at least for now, he loves her and doesn't want to do lewd things to his sister like a good, Christian adult.

Just because being an otaku is seen as disgusting and isn't socially acceptable, it doesn't mean that it's completely wrong. The characters in the show enjoy their hobbies and are still able to hold personas that are completely socially acceptable.

Also motherfuckin' ClariS.

Yea, we share the same view on the theme songs of DS2. That's good to hear!

I'll say that my experience from the show stems from the first season, and although the first few eps didn't really give off the incest moment/fanservice, it was aggressively boring (main character finds out that hot, perfect sister plays eroge games! awkwardly trying to hide it from their parents! Complete tsundere sis). But that's not the main thing, its just that the show's popularity is largely driven by the whole dojinshi market, basically hardcore otaku who are obsessive about ~attractive young girl who likes anime and manga just like me~. There are literally tons of people out there sexualizing the characters. It's no longer about the show, but the audience the show is pandering to.

Like....i'm not trying to put those of you who watches it in a bad light, i mean the points about the show you raised makes sense! The main thing is just that that the show isn't as innocent as you may perceive it.

I'll rather watch something else more entertaining to me tbh.

Anyway, sorry but Kalafina takes the cake for being my fav band.

You make it sound like it's unique to Oreimo. It's not.

Welcome to the entire Japanese doujin market. They do this for every popular show; shipping different characters in various degrees of adult oriented materials. It's pretty much the entire basis surrounding Comiket and every doujin circle residing in it each year. (Excluding the music, of course)

Even the mainstream shows that don't pander to a specific brand of otaku have doujins, with "Kuroko no Basuke" being a recent example. That show has a massive fujoshi following without even pandering to them. It's just a popular sports anime.

The show is plenty innocent. What the fans do with their talents and free time does not reflect at all on the content provided in the anime itself.

I love Oreimo. The crisp animations & all the meta!! But I'll admit this is a weird case for me because I typically hate harem shows. (Although I wouldn't really stick Oreimo under that category... even if it does have a bit of that tone)

Watching OreGairu & Hataraku Maou Sama from this season as well while waiting for more episodes of Attack on Titan & RDG to be released before I marathon.

But other than those, I'm watching Chihayafuru from last season. It's the best. /o/

Well there's a difference between 'going out of your way to pander towards these fans' and 'didn't do anything to appeal to this group but otaku are just like that'. Stuff like K-On and AKB48 (no blatant sexualization)'s popularity are largely driven by these fans and the animation studios know how to milk these cash cows for all it's worth.

The show is plenty innocent. What the fans do with their talents and free time does not reflect at all on the content provided in the anime itself.

Ok, I think I may have phrased that a little wrongly, apologies on my part. What I meant to say was that although the context of the show is largely just a show where a brother interacts with his sister who like otaku culture, there's the subliminal meaning that justifies eroge gaming, since 'an attractive young girl' is also into this kind of culture, that's why it's socially acceptable for me to do so!

It's not that the show's plot is bad or anything, it's just that the show is marketed towards this particular age group in Japan. It's not something that can be held and judged in a vacuum.

^ Yea, heard good things about Chihayafuru too! Gonna catch it after my exams

Really, the only people that think that are the idiotic Japanophiles that don't even know that "otaku" is a derogatory term in their promised land. No actual otaku in Japan is ever going to be socially acceptable if they continue down their path, and they're too busy living their fantasy lives and worshiping their precious seiyuus to even care what anybody thinks.

I agree. Which is why the main girl in Oreimo is a closet otaku. Because she knows the social consequences if people were to find out if she were one. The show is in no way trying to encourage people into becoming an otaku. Kirino's hobbies may be frowned upon but they are harmless. It's more of overlooking society's judgments & accepting yourself for who you are IMO.

Ehhh, incest is a reallly common thing in Japanese media though? And a good amount of the time they just say the characters aren't blood related so that makes uh everything ok for those 2D characters. Besides, that doesn't instantly make something bad :p That would be like saying Kodomo no Jikan is bad because lolicon!

P.S. there is MUCH more self-published works than eroge! I only have a single eroge downloaded, the rest of that ~300GB is taken up by music (I think I have a total of like five ero CDs), sfw games and doujinshi (mostly porn since that's all that is uploaded 99% of the time!). There's nothing wrong with trying to tell people "hey guys this exists, and if you know it exists it isn't bad"!!

Having sexy things in still doesn't make a series bad or tasteless or anything like that~

Yes, these guys know how to build up atmosphere. It's the only show that I immediately watch after release.

Now that all shows have started airing, my watchlist comes down to: Shingeki no Kyojin, RDG, Hataraku Maou-sama!, Railgun, maybe Suisei no Gargantia

If you're really into the series I highly recommend that you try out the manga series. There's so many subtle hints in the story which makes so much sense in the future.

Intensive stuff through...I'm personally a sucker for Gen Urobuchi. You can check out his previous stuff through

I'm not too sure about shows with such a degree of intensity, but I guess that's what makes AOT sooo good
