That's crazy, guns aren't a huge deal here, it's more knife crime than guns and even then you only hear about it in certain areas of Glasgow and usually between people who knew each other and were out with intention to injure due to an insult or a previous fight etc. Or at least that what it seemed like to me working in the law firm.
Would you buy a bulletproof backpack for your kid?

In Canada really no need either but I know in the U.S. of the gun laws but probably not since I think the chances of my kid being shot a little.

Punctuation, my friend, is a valuable tool.

It's just a little shot! No need for a bulletproof anything. Big shots are different though.Punctuation, my friend, is a valuable tool.

I am not convinced they would be that much use anyway.

Bulletproof backpacks should be fine if you're a paranoid parent, just don't tell your kids that it's bulletproof!

They'll question it when it's much heavier than a normal backpack.

Well, there is still a lot more gun violence over there. I saw a statistic that claimed 10k in america die from gun violence every year compared to <1000 in Canada. Besides, I think getting killed by other freak accidents / health problems is more likely than getting killed by a gun.

300,000,000 people vs 30,000,000 people probably helps with that too.

True, I think the actual number was like 100ish, and also, China and India had way less gun-related death too.

I live in Canada, so if I have a kid, definitely not.
I'm not sure about the conditions in US schools but I probably wouldn't either.
It would just spread more fear.

They're good at not counting deaths that are caused by the interest of the people over there. Skews numbers more.

I guess, but I don't think there is a country with a gun culture anywhere silimar to that of the US. Having too many people with guns, and even lacking background checks for some owners, is just a power cake waiting to explode.

We have a debate thread on gun-control. You may find it worth the read.

Definitely not simply because kids aren't wearing backpacks during school. The odds of them getting shot on the way or home from school is super low.
