I like the idea of secret awards, gives us something to 'yearn' for I guess. Especially if it's cute.

I think it also adds something new to the forum that we haven't had before, something to do.. lol instead of being fairly dead like it has, it seems we're more active since the idea of forum awards has come around and new the attic restock analyzer, it's giving the community a chance to come together and newer members something to do and look forward to, as well as getting people more active.

That's the idea ^_^ I've noticed the raise in activity as well.

I don't understand the secrecy or why we need arbitrary "awards" for things like coffee. I thought the point of having awards was to showcase members' achievements on the forum. By awarding only yourselves based on criteria you created, and not letting anyone else know what they need to do to get the award, you're kind of taunting us.

I agree with this. We've had our fun with the silly awards, and I think that's totally fine because they really haven't been officially announced.. but if you're going to make an arbitrary award for fun at least admit it? *points to Doge award* I'll at least admit this award is bullshit. :p

They aren't going to be like that... as I said before, ANYONE can achieve them and it's forum related criteria.
It's like Neopets avatars, they're a secret for a while but eventually the answer will be revealed to everyone.. :p

Should be available for everyone. No exclusivity, please. We have enough of that already.

Sorry but I think the main reason for the rise in activity is down to that big project that we're all contributing to, not just 'cause of the awards. Especially consider there still hasn't been any announcements about it....

I actually PM'd Strat earlier today saying I didn't think awards like the 'coffee' one were the right way to go because it enforces the idea of cliques across the staff members. But that's just my opinion, and unfortunately I don't make the decisions round here :p

I don't think hidden awards like that other site is a very good idea at all. It would make far more sense if we offered a set of achievable goals to every member without prejudice. @Trichomes is absolutely right when she says it's taunting.

Oh, and no, you can't have my lemon award. :shifty:

If we added every single award people request we would really have arbitrary awards then :p

Rocket mentioned your project in her post about activity and that's what I was agreeing to. :3

As I said before (twice), these are not awards for friends. They are just nice little secret achievements that are FORUM related not friendship related.
There will likely only be one for each staff member with individual criteria but awarding just because we like someone is not going to happen.

All of the avatars on Neo start out as a secret, are they taunting? No.
It's just fun, once the secret is out, it's out, it's not like we're going to change the criteria to piss people off.

I don't really see the problem with a few secret awards as long as they're universally achievable. Who doesn't like mysteries? :p

Keeping them secret is pretty cool, it's could be a nice surprise to log in one day and see you have something new added.

I don't agree with people having exclusive ones, what is the doge and lemon about? Is it obtainable by anyone else?

Still joking, about the cats... kinda

Anyways, has it been discussed for regular members to come up with awards (forum related) and staff can vote/veto? I haven't read the entire thread I don't think and/or I have a really bad memory. It's something we can all contribute towards and not just staff (not to make it sound like that's a bad thing or anything) but to help with ideas once the initial wave of awards has been released?

edit: I personally think that staff and/or certain major contributors to the site should have their own excuslive awards. It sets them apart from the rest and shows they've made a major contribution to the site in some way (aka @Dan with his lemons)

Unfortunately this isn't Neopets where there are thousands of people trying to figure out how to get avatars... This is a neopets cheating community with about 50 active members, and when people see a random award added and handed out to two of the moderators who are very publicly very close friends... well... people are going to say something, right?

The fact the award was given to each other through with the reason "xxxx cop needs her coffee heheh" just make it look like it's a special award for only you two.

I'm pretty sure this didn't start off as a secret award and you guys are now gonna come up with some random criteria which makes it look like it was :p

I think the main problem is that there's no announcement explaining any of this yet /shrug

Because it's not officially released yet, it's still being tested (hence the test awards).

    Did you read my post?

Indeed I did. While what you posted can be brushed off for whatever reasoning, since you are only one person, if someone else raises that question too it draws attention back to it. If enough people question it then we have no exclusive things for anyone and everyone can obtain it. Thus making it fair across the board. Savvy?

I think we ALL need to lay off the coffee for a minute and take a deep breath and relax. It's getting a little hostile in here.

but also can I add that i like that this is a great conversation and people are saying what's on their mind and no one (seems) to be getting too upset or taking things personal?

for the record I totally thought it was an exclusivity thing at first, but now that Kate and Emily have explained it, it's no big deal.

(though in the back of my mind, they probably meant it to be exclusive until someone pointed out they wanted it, then they went oh shit and had to explain themselves and make it something everyone could obtain)

    not judging.. :p

The fact you two awarded it to each other based on your 'cop' idea... and the fact it's coffee... and cops are known for their coffee... :p

It just seems like a biiiiig coincidence, Kate, and I don't think I'm the only person to realise it. ;)

The only reason people are interested in this now is because you're denying it and saying it's some kind of secret award.  :/

Either way, I hope this award is removed along with the test awards.

    @Rocket you are spot on...
