Everyone on this thread.

These bathroom related threads are some of the most interesting threads I have seen in months :o

Oh good, I'll go start one asking if you sit or stand to stick your tampon in.

I voted for scrunch, but honestly it's a little of both. You have to fold the paper to get good coverage, I don't want my finger touching butthole. The scrunch is for texture, because I want to get the shit off my ass, not just wipe it around. And I stay seated because why the fuck are you people standing? To take a bow after your magnificent shit?

That's as best as I can put it into words.

Definitely a fold, but I do a kind of squat, so a mix between sitting and standing?

Stand, struggling with one leg on the toilet seat.

Um, I'm confused. We have a septic system, we use septic safe loo roll. Why would anyone throw it in the trash?

In answer to the question, sitting and folded. Except in a public place and it's unavoidable, I'll hover if I really have to.

I think that depends on the quality of your septic tank tbh.

Maybe. I know the one we have has a bubbling thing inside with high pressure, my father-in-law called it the 'turd jacuzzi'. He said it breaks down solids and paper, then it gets filtered and the water gets pushed along bleeder pipes that are under our yard. The only reason the septic tank would need emptying is when it has a buildup of fats, grease, and general nastiness. Otherwise a good system will go with minimum maintenance.

I can't poop unless I have baby wipes, and I find it easier to stand when I wipe. Whether I fold or scrunch my toilet paper depends on how much of a hurry I'm in to get off the toilet. I'm not proud of being so wasteful, but I probably use about three times more toilet paper and wipes than necessary to ensure that nothing ever gets on my hands, and that I'm completely clean. Fortunately we haven't had any plumbing issues.

To everyone disgusted at the idea of seeing poo in the bin when you put your paper in the trash... You just put it poop-side down. Looking at our bin you don't see any poop. It's not like you toss it in haphazardly :p

Please explain how this works. Where does the water come from? What do you do with your hand? Does shaking hands with your left hand constitute an insult?

I do it sitting. I'm not a fucking acrobat, I can't do that one legged shit.

WHAT?? Unheard of! Next you'll tell me you don't proudly display your sanitary pad open on top of the pile for all to see. When the girls were babies, you didn't frame their used diapers?

    Yes, they cannot flush it.

Depending on the age of your home, and the pipes hooked up to it, there are some things you cannot flush. We always flush the paper, but in the past when we flushed tampons (in a home with 4 females) or when we used a certain kind of toilet paper, the system would clog and we'd have to pay a fuckton of money to get some guys to dig up the back yard and scrape everything out the pipes. The best way to avoid such a catastrophe is to just throw the paper in the trash.

When I was a kid, my grandma never flushed their toilet paper (she never closed the bathroom door either, which struck me as weirder), and trust me I would have noticed if her house stank. The trash does get taken out.

I also want to know of the method of just water and your left hand. Do you just air dry? Or do you pull up your underwear and let that soak up your butt water?

I was aware that you probably shouldn't flush bigger items such as tampons, used sanitary towels, wet wipes, etc, but I was just under the impression the whole point of having a toilet was to be able to flush the waste & the flimsy paper used for wiping.

I currently live in a managed block of flats (apartments), so I just flush whatever I want for fun.

usually beside the WC there's a pipe and i use the water from it clean the shit from my butt. we don't use any papers to wipe our butts where i come from. and about the left hand, malaysian people use their left hands to wipe their butt and their right hands to eat. it's a cultural thing.

Haha that's so mean, but you're not the only person who does that. Sometimes when I'm at work and I look in the toilet I'm like, "Is that rubber ducky from the store, or did some woman have it up in her vagina?"

Is it a pipe with water running constantly, like a fountain? Or do you have to turn a nozzle, wipe your butt, rinse off your hand, and then switch the nozzle off? Are the nozzles covered entirely in brown?

I saw a show about a dimwitted English man going to countries around the world, and when he was in China, I believe, the public bathroom had no paper or toilet... just a hole in the ground. It made me wonder if the act of squatting whilst shitting kinda spreads your cheeks so maybe there just isn't as much mess to wipe off? I don't know how that all works.

I hate this thread. I shouldn't be curious about how other people handle their poo poo. Fuck you, Mister J.

An Idiot Abroad, haha, Karl Pilkington is hilarious.

Squatting just positions your anus aiming at the ground better than sitting.

We've spoken to a guy who clears tanks for a living. He said septic-safe paper is crock of shit, and that you might be lucky and go years without problems, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Are we arguing all wiping habits were created equally?

There clearly exists an optimal wiping strategy.

Maybe it's just a cultural thing. I was taught how to give a handshake by a relative: in a formal/business setting, stretch your right hand out, firmly shake for 2-3 seconds and keep eye contact. Informally

People study this for a living, and styles of handshakes have been documented - check this out, it's just a preview, but it's worth a read (5 mins): Handshake eBook

How many of the people in the picture are outstretching their left hand for a shake? :p
