Racial, national, hobbyist, religious - any old stereotype will do. Which ones do you slot right into?

For example, being English, I do enjoy a good cup of tea. Obviously.
Crumpets optional, but preferable.

And then, what stereotypes do you defy, intentionally or otherwise?

I mean, I don't think anyone meeting me on the street would assume I was a Primary School teacher by trade (if not by current employment status -_-).
Nor, in fact, would anyone assume I was English, given how quickly and thoroughly I lose my accent over here :p

Whatcha got?

Currently I'm fitting into the stereotype where black people don't work.

It's not that I don't want to work.  I really do.  However it's hard to find jobs in an area that has high job requirements and offers no training. :(

I do however defy the stereotype where black women are loud and obnoxious.  I'm actually very quiet with a nearly inaudible voice. :p

As an aussie, I love the beach and a good old barbie (BBQ, not the doll). I do enjoy the occasional Vegemite on toast, but it's not a necessity as some make it out to be.

I defy the Aussie 'bogan' stereotype in the sense that I don't dress like this:

Nor do I talk like this:

Erm, well I live in London, have a very "English" accent and I'm quite a believer in stiff upper lip and all that, so I suppose I'm quite quintessentially British when it comes to stereotypes. Decent enough teeth though. :p

As a woman, my parking is relatively atrocious despite driving for 8 years. A mixture of being quite cautious and having very poor special awareness...
If I could do the whole barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen deal, then I would. But I also watch an awful lot of sport.

I suppose for years I was a stereotypical music student in that I started playing at 3 and spent half my life practising. Thankfully escaped all that. :p Are there stereotypes for people who work in communications? Probably not.

    • I fit just right into the stereotype that Portuguese women have mustaches love waaaay too much cod. I love cod. Steamed, grilled, raw dried n' salted, i make a cod broth that can make a guy fall for me instantaneously (why do ya think I got married and made a guy knock me up two times, eh?).
    • Same thing for "fado" (it's a portuguese musical genre but it can also be described as "fate" or "sadness", although doesn't mean exactly that because "fado" has no translation for any other language), I'm constantly assaulted by waves of an embraced sadness and the inevitability of a ruined future, the acceptance of all bad things with a gloomy look, a heavy heart and a very, very old soul.
    • Like every good Portuguese I love beach, snow and countryside.
    • Like every Portuguese I talk much but in the end I'm a pacifist. I have a lot of angry inside me, but can't harm anyone and accept my "fado" because that's how it's supposed to happen an then I'll go write songs/poems/books about it.

    • I defy the stereotype that all women suffers hell with menstruation. Never did and continue no to. No pain, no cramps, no suddenly mood changes (I have that every day :) :D :p  :( )
    • Another one is arguing with any male because they left the toilet seat up. I hate that some women argue about it. It's stupid, women. Deal with it. I wonder if that women would be shocked if their partners start yelling at them because they didn't leave the toilet seat up for him!
    • @Ali remembered me this one ;p: I'm a really good driver. Lots of years playing on those simulators (and some people say video games are bad for kids! ppfft :x)

There's probably more, but I can't remember right now.

I do enjoy a spot of tea myself, as tea cures all ailments.

I'm pretty much the same, except with my family. I have to be loud to be heard.

I seem to fit the 'gay-guy-who-likes-fashion-but-isn't-gay-but-is-just-really-down-to-earth-and-in-touch-with-his-emotions'

However, once people pass the stereotype, they find out that I'm a very complex (neurotic), and unpredictable person (slightly psychotic). :lol2: :lol2:

Actually, thinking about this a little more. I probably have more stereotypes - depending on what first impressions I give people.

When I'm at Uni I tend to think people think I must be the typical-nerd-who-is-really-hot-but-is-still-a-nerd type.

I'm just REALLY INTO MY STUDIES DAMMIT!

    Thumbs up for stereotypes:

    • I love sexy lingerie.  :shifty:

    I defy stereotypes by:

    • I HATE GOING TO SHOP FOR CLOTHES. Really. Despise every minute doing it. I'm just like: get in, take the first thing I know it will fit me, pay, and get out as soon as possible.
    • I take 5 minutes to get ready for ANY event. 10 if I have to take a shower.
    • I have 6 pairs of shoes. I don't need more.
    • I'm a girl and I love porn. How can anyone not love something that instigate our most basic need?! I can't understand!

I'm a stereotypical Midwesterner -- a more than average amount of kids, a Bible in every room, a yard full of cars and appliances, bacon and gravy for breakfast, guns on the walls, etc.

I'm also a stereotypical blonde (oblivious) and a stereotypical American. (Neocodex has quadrupled my cultural awareness, easily.)

I defy stereotypes by really, genuinely enjoying sex, though the internet makes me think women just don't talk about liking it as much as they really do.

I can also do general car maintenance like changing oil and tires, but that might fall under the Midwesterner thing. (Welcome to the West, where the men are real men and the women are too.)

    A few more:

Unlike @athayde, I LOVE shoes. I'm not entirely sure how many pairs I've got.

I hate physically going shopping, I get really irritable whenever I've got to go to the shopping centre (it's always packed full) but I'm addicted to shopping online.

I like DIY, and taking stuff apart to put it together, and I love watching sports.
