Please direct me to the right topic if there's already a similar one, I skimmed the boards and couldn't find any.

Know some small facts? Fire them away!

I was thinking of this today because I had to apply for a new passport. Did you know that in 2011, some guy in the Netherlands sued the government for charging money for passports and id cards and won? The court ruled that because the documents were obligated by law, the government was not allowed to charge money for it; they became free. Thousands of people each day (instead of 1000s each week) asked a new passport/id. It lasted two weeks before the government issued an emergency act; now they cost about 51 euros.

Interesting. I'm surprised this hasn't gone to the EU court, it'd save me £80 next year!

Passports are serious business.. I don't have one yet because it's so expensive and I don't go to the U.S. enough for it to be worth it for me.
If they were free though, I'd be like yaaaaas.

That link doesn't work for me. I wish something could happen like that in the states, you have to pay for something to even be able to have the opportunity to go somewhere to spend even more money.

New fact: I just read that scientists have found that we are physically addicted to UV light (or actually the beta-endorfine we harvest from it). Long withdrawal from the sun can cause some serious health and mood issues. Is that why the British are always so grumpy? loljk

For this reason, they sell devices that look like ear bud headphones, but they emit light into your "brain"

Once again the only thing I have to offer is: even if your pharmacy drops pills on the floor, they still dispense them to the public.

Subway does the same thing with bread.

Ha. This never happened at the Subway I worked at during high school. Not while I was on the clock anyway. With that said, I am sure it happens all the time elsewhere in any and every other type of food place.

It happened all the time at my Subway. My manager was like "just put Italian Herb and Cheese on it, it's fine."

LOL. Well, I am not entirely convinced that dropping the bread on the floor would necessarily be detrimental to the quality.

    Aren't they only like $180 for a 10 year passport? that's 18 dollars a year or 1.5 dollars a month!

I don't think they last 10 years do they? The only time I ever go over the border now I use my ID and birth certificate because the customs officers are slack lmao So I haven't looked into passports in a long time.

Yeah they have a 10 year one now (I just got it). It's only like 30 bucks more for the 10 than the 5 so it's 100% worth it.

Wow, yeah that's not bad at all. I haven't looked into it since they became "mandatory" in like June 2009 or something. lol

It amazes me how many North Americans that do not travel. Admittedly I don't go travelling much due to work and house save but I've still been to 15 countries and I'm only 24...

It's probably mainly because America is so big and most of the countries immediately surrounding it are a bit shit (I'll exclude Canada) whereas if you're in Europe you've got dozens of countries within a few hours flying distance. :p

You shouldn't exclude Canada. There is absolutely no reason for someone from the US to visit Canada as a tourist.

Drug and sex tourism is still tourism.
