Fears and Phobias

Do you have a phobia? Or are there just certain things that you're afraid of -  like killing that spider on your wall or walking alone at night? I'm curious to see what people on Codex are afraid or if they actually have a phobia of something.

Here's a video on phobias if you're unsure of the difference between the two:

I have a fear of turbulence. I'm not afraid of flying. I actually love it. I just have extremely bad anxiety whenever the plane happens upon some turbulence. When I was flying home for Christmas break last year, we hit some bad turbulence and the lady next to me had to talk me through it the entire hour flight :p It's actually not so bad when I'm talking to someone because I'm not focused on the idea that I'm going to die, but if I don't have anyone to talk to then it gets pretty bad.

Tell me yours!

I'm very afraid of spiders! The thought of them makes me cringe...ick! When I see a spider anything bigger than a dime I completely freeze up, and stand there like an idiot while the little bastard makes its getaway. I've also had night terrors that have to do with spiders..life is rough.

Clowns - I will have massive panic attacks and hide and cry until they go away.

I have a few fears, but the only one worth mentioning (i.e. a relatively uncommon one) is a fear of bugs and stuff like that - I just don't want to get stung, or bitten, okay?

    But, I do have a phobia of heights. Seriously, fuck heights; I get nauseous looking down from the 2nd/3rd floor. I cannot deal with them. Being in a first person viewpoint in a high place, even if it's not me, scares the shit out of me. ;_;

I don't think I have any phobias, but I am slightly afraid of spiders (especially spiders that are way larger than they need to be :/).

I don't think I have any phobias, if by phobia we're meaning an irrational fear. (CBA to watch video)

I do have the general fears that come with recognizing our mortality; fear of immediate deaths, fear of a poor legacy, fear of being forgotten, that sort of thing.

I would echo Sweeney, but that thought doesn't cross my mind very often, and it's fleeting when it does. I know I'm as sane as the next person. Perhaps more so.

I don't have any phobia, but I'm really scared of being upside down xD When I was little, my father was playing with me upside down, when I fell, hit very hard with my head on the floor and almost passed out! Since then I never get upside down, NEVER.

I also have a fear of rollercoasters. Probably one of the reasons is that fear ^

No fear of bugs though. I live kinda in the middle of the woods, so I'm used to spiders and insects :p

I mean more in the form of senility or dementia, rather than some kind of psychotic break :p

I used to have an irrational fear... of newspapers. The 'smell' of them to me was absolutely disgusting and I could not touch or use anything that came in contact with it.

I have more of a tolerance for it now as its hard to avoid in my job but I still have a slight phobia for it.

Apparently Angelina Jolie has something similar to it, which is cool.

    Too many to list! Lmao!

But spiders, yeah... fuck them. And it may not even be an irrational one at that. I had a pretty nasty encounter when I was 10 that I can sorta pinpoint from when it all started.Pretty traumatic as a kid! :o

It used to be needles for me, or more specifically, the act of having blood drawn. Actual phobia-level fear, it would trigger fight-or-flight responses. I could force myself through shots but I could not handle having blood drawn at all. I required blood tests somewhat often due to a medication I was on during my middle school years, and I'd end up fighting the nurses. That changed when I finally ended up with a nurse that wouldn't put up with my shit, lmao.

It was the kick in the butt needed to finally try to force myself to get over it, though. It took YEARS, but I've gotten to the point where I can donate blood now, and I try to do so whenever I can. I think most people can get over their fears, but they also have to be mentally/emotionally willing to expose themselves to it over and over. It was worth it in my case, but it was miserable when I was going through it.

I don't really have any phobias. Centipedes scare the shit out of me, yes, but I don't think I'm irrational about it like arachnophobes are about spiders.

I fear failure. I fear losing loved ones because I don't live up to their standards. It's not Atychiphobia, though... I don't think it is. Even though I have a lot of those symptoms including the stomach disorder. Maybe. I still take risks, but I admit the fear is sometimes detrimental, particularly in relationships.

i googled the ten most common phobias and i believe i have acrophobia and social phobias. i'm also cynophobic because i used to get chased by dogs when i was little and it left me traumatised. thank god where i'm at people generally don't like dogs so i don't have to deal with this particular phobia often.

i don't get why people are afraid of clowns. O_o

I'm arachnaphobic as fuck. Other bugs scare me too (entomophobia) but not as bad as those motherfucking spiders. I let them sit in peace in certain corners because fuck flies, but I'm not a minute longer in that room than needed. Was going to pick up a pile of laundry once when one of these motherfucking housespiders crawled out (they can get as big as your fist). Nope nope nope nope nope nope.

    07817112623-thumb1.jpg

My other major fear is burglars, or confronting burglars or being murdered by burglars. I just don't like sneaky people in the dark, I guess. For the rest I'm not that phobic.
