Apologies if this is already a thread, I searched and didn't see anything relevant.

I'm thinking casually of replacing my laptop for a better one. Thing is, Windows 8 and I do not get on at all. I've tried using it on my sister's laptop and the touchscreen motions just make no earthly sense to me. Is it worth getting used to? Should I wait til the next version of Windows comes out, or try and stick to 7?

I'm on my cousin's PC right now trying to update the graphic card for Windows 8. It's my first time using it, and I already hate it. I prefer Windows 7.

I love it personally, but I've been using it so long maybe I've forgotten how Windows 7 is.

Windows 7 is shite. 8s not brilliant and aimed at dunces but you get used to it. Go back to XP :p

I love it. It took getting used to, but there's apps to add a start bar, and if nothing else, you can save everything you love to your desktop.

You don't even know, man. Before this, I had a Vista laptop and got on fine with it. That's how bad Windows 8 is. >_>

Windows 8 is okay.  It's a little more complicated to get used to compared to Windows 7.  Unless you're willing to get used to the complicated stuff, just stick with 7.

(Note: "Windows 10" will be coming out in half a year, lol.)

Eh, right now 7 is the best available :p They just announced Windows 10 (it'll be released late next year though), so it might be worth waiting around to see if that's less horrible than 8 if you wanna upgrade.

7 is so much better than XP once you get the hang of it ^^ You can customise the shit out of it if you just don't like the GUI lol

I've had Windows 7 for a long time now, whereas my bf uses 8.
I prefer 7 because it's much easier to use and I've had no problems with it.
My bf enjoys 8, but I think that's because he's used to it.

I don't like when my desktop tries to have a tablet-esque feel. ;x
I also don't like the sass that 8 has when your battery is low. "you might want to plug in your laptop", or something like that. Lol.

    Because 7 ate 9 :3c

Actually I have no idea, Microsoft is really weird when it comes to naming their products. Wasn't Vista's beta name Longhorn? Who would even call their OS that hahah

    10 > 8. That's all that matters apparently.

But what happens to only odd-numbered releases being any good? ;-; Are they subtly telling us to lower our expectations already?

For me I would rather stick to Windows 7, too many things going on on 8 and I don't like it. For a work pc I would recommend XP :p fast, reliable, no bulky stuffs to interfere with any of your work.

Win8 isn't too complicated tbh - searching for stuff on the "mobile" interface makes everything pretty easy.

But it's not a huge leap from Win7, and Win10 is going to be out in a while, I'd wait for that instead :)

Windows 8 sucks.  And I'm not the type of person who hates change when it comes to operating systems and software, but Windows 8 blows.

Get outta here :p 7 is just an updated XP from what i've seen. My computer came pre-installed with Windows 8, but before doing anything i acquired a copy of Windows 7 and downgraded. No complaints yet, and i came from Windows XP to this.

For me it's barely any different.  Start up > Go to classic desktop.  Done.  It's fine for me.

Windows 8 is like marmite you either love it or hate it.

For me I much prefer it to 7 and the other although I still think windows ME was the best :p

There are many functions that work well in 8 and I have come to love as a laptop user.  But then there are times now when I have to do 3 things to do something when I used to only have to do 1 before.  Having a start button now has helped btw.

I love it. All of my products are on Win8. It definitely takes some getting used to but I don't think I can go back to Win7 any more. I quite like the Metro screen tbh.

Windows 8 takes some getting used to but it not so bad... some features like ad hoc and others that isn't available is a pain but easily fixable... nothing really special in my opinion, and from the preview of win10 it's just a glorified version of win8. Stick with win7 and wait till 10 is released and compare the 3.
