Your Real Life Self vs Keyboard Self

I'm a lot more shy and socially awkward in public. I try way too hard to think through a conversation in my head before I start talking, and then screw it all up because I get nervous talking when it's outside a routine.

I think it would be disingenuous for me to pretend not to be an asshole when I'm online....

I believe you mean arsehole.
You're not American yet.
As for me, I'm a lot less nice in real life.

I feel like I am much more proper when I type. I can't accurately convert all my mannerisms and reactions and the sounds I make in to text very well, so I think I come off as a lot more 'serious' in text. Especially when I leave off emotes. >_<
Otherwise, pretty much the same.

Depends on my mood.
I'm a pretty carefree person in general so most of the time I type like that. When I get stressed or emotionally charged about a topic then I will use proper grammar/punctuation and bigger words lol

It's true, I met a badger once. Was a huge prick and really snarly.

I'm pretty much the same. I say what's on my mind with not much of a filter. I don't use a log of slang words like "lol, wtf, omg" irl though.

I'm myself but a more blunt version of myself? I'm a lot more polite in person and tend to grit my teeth and bite my tongue far more often. I think it's harder to hurt someone's feelings to their face.

My typing style and speech are pretty similar I guess (like minus the emoticons obviously since that's what facial expressions and all are for)!! I just type how I'd say something irl ^^
But I'm really shy and nervous and awkward irl too hahah... If I don't know the person I'm talking to all the well I don't really talk all that much. I'm really quiet though, so if I'm in a group of loud people I usually won't bother talking unless I have to or get a chance to say something, since I know no one's gonna hear me otherwise. But if I'm chatting to a person I know well or if I'm with them and just another person or two then none of this is an issue and I just talk normally!! I forget a lot of words too though which is a pain in the ass when I'm trying to form a sentence and don't want to confuse anyone >w> Typing is a lot easier since I can just look the word up and take my time typing and thinking everything out lmao
Me and Elin hung out with his friends last night though and I think I did a good job with talking and stuff!! I definitely wasn't the most talkative person there but I think I did well ^^

I suffer from RBF too! Soooo annoying when people think I'm angry all the time.
Solution: Don't look so mad all the time.

True, whereas here I'm positively a delight all the time, a veritable ray of sunshine.

Meant to do this yesterday...
Do you speak the same way you type?
Mostly, i tend to be a little bit 'smarter' when i type, because i get to think about what i am typing for longer than if i were speaking.
How similar or different are the two?
Pretty close- i don't say lol (and other acronyms), and i use my face to describe where i would type an !. I am probably a little bit more tense when i type because it takes me a lot longer to decide how to communicate my thoughts quickly, and succinctly. In real life i just say words lol.
Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
no. I am the same person behind a screen and face to face.

Do you speak the same way you type?
Generally? I probably speak a bit more informally. They way I type on Minecraft is closer to how I speak in real life.
How similar or different are the two?
I'm slightly more casual in real life. No problems approaching people to talk like I am on here. >_>
Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
Newp. I don't have a split internet personality. ![]()

I am the same person online and off, although I am a bit shy around new people in person. I am shy online as well, but I don't think it shows, for the most part. I put more thought into what I say online, to avoid misunderstandings in tone.

Ive met people from online as well as from Xbox Live and no one ever comments on how I act, rather its how I look lol.

^^
I carry the same attitude in real life as I do online. I say what I want to who I want, and sometimes it gets me in trouble, and that's when the "0 fucks given" attitude comes in handy.

That's how I am too! I get bored trying to express my thoughts via writing, and then I lose my train of thought, resulting in my message not making as much of an impact as I had planned.

Yeah, that's what happens to me. When I'm writing, I also tend to get distracted and in the end it's not what I wanted it to be.

Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
I mostly type the same way that I speak. I think that when I type, I'm slightly more proper because I'm an English major. I think, like most people, I feel braver and more confident typing. This could be attributed to the fact that I'm highly introverted.

Do you speak the same way you type?
Yes, I do both with a southern accent.
How similar or different are the two?
It really depends on who I'm talking to. Obviously I'm not going to cuss like a sailor in front of my kids, but they do probably know a little more about childbirth than the average kindergarteners. The same for their parents in the homeschool group, they're a bunch of Christian women and the language I use here isn't appropriate to use around them and their children. However, Yung/his family and my mom and my sister and friends see the same Jess y'all do, plus more. My dad doesn't think very funny, so I censor it a little and I know he censors himself around me. I (mostly) know when it's appropriate to keep my thoughts to myself and how to act in a professional setting, but I also know there's something a little off about me irl that's the same kind of off some of you have mentioned about me on here.
Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
No, not really. Sometimes I think, sometimes I don't. Unlike Cohle, I'm more guarded with my opinions online than irl.
I forgot to mention I'm like this irl with groups of really close friends or one on one conversations. I think that has to do with my introverted self though. Also, when I'm in a bonefide relationship, I quit talking about sex so much. It's disrespectful.

Yep, to an extent anyways
How similar or different are the two?
I don't pronounce my t's unless it's near the start of a word, the brits know, you still say the word the same just without your tongue touching your teeth. Other than that its pretty similar. I found out recently tho that if i do pronounce all my t's i sound posh as fuck. But there's other shit like i'll shorten do you know to d'you know? But i type how i speak so whatever ![]()
Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
Nah i've always been a cheeky chap, and i've never cared about the way i type like having it all proper and grammatically correct. And i start sentences with "and" sometimes, cause i can.

Do you speak the same way you type?
Relatively. For whatever reason, the more "proper" you speak socially, the more uptight, self righteous, full of yourself, or "unapproachable" you come off. If you use a "two dollar" word IRL, you often alienate people which might color their perception of you negatively. Online, people can just google the word.
How similar or different are the two?
They are the same, with the caveat that I am less aware/caring of how I am perceived by others online, so I'm unafraid speaking how I would like to. I don't believe that I've got the most extensive vocabulary, but I often find myself "dumbing down" words IRL if I'm with people whom I think might frown upon it, or if I think they might perceive me differently because of it. Online, I'm also able to edit sentence structure if I begin a sentence and realize that it would sound better another way, whereas I don't have that "luxury" IRL.
Do you feel like a different person whenever you type?
Nah, just a more pruned version
