I'm curious; has anyone here ever tried this? I've read several articles where people say they've been washing their hair with only water for years and it's super healthy and way more natural looking.

I have a love/hate relationship with shampoo. My hair is pretty wild, and I never seem to find the right shampoo for it so honestly... if I have the option to have healthy nice-looking hair with just water, I'd definitely be willing to try this.

The thing that scares me is the first phase though... the greasy phase. I don't want people thinking I don't wash myself : /

I feel like my hair would feel/look so gross if I don't use shampoo. I can't stand when my hair feels dirty anyway so I don't think I could do it lol.

Sometimes I don't use shampoo for a day and my hair looks fine. Any more than a day and it turns really greasy and yucky.

I think this has been discussed somewhere. But I think if you go no poo it takes like a month or something for your hair to adjust. So yes it will he really gross for a while.

A month... oh boy... maybe I should try it during Summer holidays then.

I really want to try it. With shampoo my hair already gets greasy after one and a half days, so that's not really working for me either. And I lose a lot of hair too, so maybe it would be healthier to just use water.

That's probably when I'll try that too. My hair can't look terrible for school. Then people think I don't shower or wash my hair. At some random points it'll just get really greasy even if I wash it, and a while back, there was a rumor that I didn't wash my hair because it was greasy for like two weeks and I couldn't find anything that worked to make it non greasy. It went back to normal randomly after those two weeks though.

I've heard lots of good and some bad about this. I just can't get myself to do it. I used to have stupidly long hair and I could have pulled it off, now it is shoulder length and it drives me crazy how easily it gets greasy. They also say brushing your hair often is important because it helps disperse the oils in your hair.

I'm not sure I would ever be able to start something like this. I have really thin/naturally greasy hair, so any more than a day and it already starts getting ehhhh looking. More than that, and it'll get so greasy that people literally ask me if I just showered lol (yeah, it's gross :p).

I don't even use conditioner because it makes my hair look too greasy. I envy the people who can go no-poo and actually have their hair look good - I wouldn't mind saving the money on hair products.

My hair/scalp needs shampoo.  I constantly get dandruff.  Also, my type of hair can't just be washed with water, otherwise it gets frizzy and nappy.

I have naturally really wavy (used to have curls as a kid but those are gone) hair with quite a lot of volume and usually unmanageable. It gets greasy really fast too so usually I have to wash it every three days. And then it only looks good for one day, so I'm not sure if there will be that much difference... I usually make a very tight bun so that's a lot more difficult to see whether it's greasy or not.

Yup, I read something about a BBB brush... I'll have to check in my local stores if they have that.

I read something once about using cornstarch and a stiff brush to remove excess oils. The cornstarch would absorb the oil and you can brush it out after that. I wouldn't know how that works in real life though.

I buy my shampoo from the grocery store lol. It cleans my hair nicely. I am curious to find a natural solution, but the only recipes i have found have reviews that indicate it dries out the hair too much. I just got done making my own body wash.. i am almost curious to know if it will work in my hair as well.

I think your hair needs some time to adjust if you've been using shampoo for years, at first it will be ugly and greasy I think. I've never tried it, I can't even use shampoo that doesn't contain sulfate because it'll look greasy afterwards

Yeah there's a transition phase and it's different how long it takes for every person, but if you pull yourself through that, the results are apparently worth it.

I guess I mostly want to try it because my hair really isn't healthy. I've tried all kinds of shampoos, but nothing that really suits me. I have really wavy hair that's hardly manageable. Usually when I've washed it, it's like it's exploded. And you'd think that waves would have a nice spring to them, but with me it's the kind that just goes every which way and is a mess. As a kid I even had curly hair but somehow that had disappeared after my mother made the stupid decision to let them cut my hair very short. They never returned after that : (

This was me a little more than half a year ago when I just washed my hair and blow dried it and brushed it although it looks like it hasn't:

    2cp705i.jpg

Looks anything but healthy to me. Just so dry and strawy I don't know. I just wish my hair could be a bit more softer or silky.

My hair is a lot longer now, and the weight causes the top to remain flat now, so only the ends are wavy. But bleh I hate it.

No poo always sounds like it works for most people who actually stick to it for the entire transition period, but I just can't think of any time in my life where I'll be cool with having nasty/greasy hair for a long time.

I would love to do it but I can't be greasy for 6 weeks during the transition phase.  I am way too dependent on shampoo now that my hair is short.

I'm a WO (water only) girl. I've given up using shampoo for like 10 years or so. The really bad thing about shampoo is that do exactly what isn't supposed to do which is removing all the good stuff from your scalp (oils) so that leads to an abnormal oil production as well as dandruff, itchy nightmares and all that things we wish we didn't know.

It's worth to mention that transition phase is not the same for everyone, some people don't have it at all.

It's worth to mention too that there are some natural shampoos out there you can buy in stores (unless you're from Portugal lol) or internet.

I'm really sorry for the late response, but I've been so busy with work. D:

Any question you can ask in my thread Nymh already mentioned about hair/beard routines. Or send me a PM if I don't answer there in a couple of days. I don't know much outside my own experience but brainstorming is always nice, right?, and I like to do internet research for this kind of things lol :p

The weather has been really hot the past week and my current shampoo (which is supposed to be some high quality botanical extract deal) has betrayed me by being way too dry but oily at the same time. Basically my hair is dry and gross but then my scalp is oily and gross. Today was a particularly tough day I just gave up and rubbed down my scalp with baking soda paste and rinsed off with diluted vinegar. Downside, I smell rank. Upside, my hair and scalp don't feel dry or greasy.

I cut down on shampoo years ago (not an entire month without, though, more like 1 to 2 weeks) because my hair would get greasy EXTREMELY fast. My aunt and hairdresser actually recommended it. I can say I only have positive experiences with less shampoo. Everytime I shampoo my hair more often, it also gets greasy faster. Washing only your scalp and not your entire hair and hairends already helps a lot.

My boyfriend doesn't use shampoo and he has hair past his shoulders. It looks good, but then again, we live in a hippie town, so the standards of hygiene and beauty are a bit lower here. Haha.

I tried no-poo for a while as well. I used baking soda whenever it started to get greasy, which was about once a week or so. But I think it was too hard on my hair. Maybe I was just really bad at rinsing and brushing my hair, but it felt nasty all the time.

Now I use "natural" shampoos with less of the bad stuff in 'em. My hair feels healthier than it ever has.

I also brush a lot more often. I think that's important for having healthy hair. I only use wide-tooth combs, which are supposed to be better than brushes, I guess.
