So I get in trouble for becoming unwell at work a few weeks ago. Due to surgery early this year I have no paid sick leave left so during winter it was pretty but losing out, but even though I've gotten my doctors certificates every single time I'm apparently not meeting my work place agreement even though it says I'm fine if I bring in my certificate(s)... So basically since then I've been fairly healthy but today I was feeling very under the weather, so I thought I would come to work because I didn't want to be made feel like a piece of shit for being sick again.

But no, me actually showing up and working was wrong too. I got in trouble for being too slow even though I told him I was feeling unwell. "Feeling a little sick isn't an excuse, you're behind 2 or more hours and its disgusting".. I just stand there just letting him talk because he is always the 1 who has issues with me. Yet I finished it just over 30 minutes after I was meant to and managed to push myself to do 6 and a half hours of pallets in 5 hours.. Ugh I just feel so annoyed..

He was on holidays for 6 full, beautiful weeks recently. The weeks he's on holiday are the absolute best. I get to work and I check the hours/logs book and go take a look at the stock. Organize my cages depending and then break it down. I more often than not get it broken down 15-45 minutes early probably 80% of the time but because he finishes a few hours after I start he never ends up seeing. But back to the holidays. I get to work and the book tells me everything I need to know. The night supervisor gets in at 4:30 or 3:30 pm depending and pretty much figures out what isle she wants me to fill which is easy enough.

Only 2 times in 6 weeks did I need some proper help. The 1st time was when we had no one able to run the fill team for the day, I was basically told to do it, I've never done it. it was fun, hard, difficult but we got it done... The good thing was, was the store manager decided to stay and give me a little guidance because we were down a few workers.. so he did cardboard crushing. And the 2nd time was when we had to wait 3 more hours for the load to show up. It wasnt too big of a problem to sort out what to do until it came but we had no grocery managers in that day.

So what the hell do I do? I've gone to work before sick as a dog and the good team members say to go home. I talk to my boss, he gets annoyed and pretty much says no. I mean. He wont even talk to you for a few days if you've ended up sick. Just like when I had to be hospitalized due to pneumonia. He forced me to come back into work after I'd left to go home due to spewing etc, and then after finishing at midnight about 2 hours later of struggling to try and calm down and sleep and stop coughing etc. i ended up going to hospital and they had to keep me there for a few days because I had pneumonia. came to work after the recovery period, luckily it was a long weekend and he wouldn't talk to me even after I had given him the hospital medical info thing i was given.

He repeats himself multiple times when you already know them, especially how many hours I have to do a specific thing. Its just annoying because I always check the logs book to find out and write it down on my hand. So I decided to stop doing that because he kept telling me. Then he gets up me for not looking at the book the other day. Or he will sort of praise me for either being ahead of time or something and then moments after treat me like a piece of shit because I'm going to slow down and he doesn't want that etc etc.

He said to me today he wasn't getting up me and was talking to me as an equal and then went on to call me pathetic because I couldn't deal with feeling unwell.

I just gotta rant.

Worked there nearly 3 years now... He still thinks I only work in 1 isle. He still thinks the other team members do some of the things I've been doing for 2 and a half years. He still thinks that my certificate from the doctor stating I have asthma is fake.

When he's not at work. Work is actually enjoyable and I don't feel like a worthless piece of shit.

Any ideas on how to sorta deal with it?

Do you have problems like these?

I've been looking for work for nearly 2 years while I am where I am but have yet to even get an interview with anyone...

Make sure you submit the cert's, smile when he talks, then do what you need to do. Worrying about him worrying is wasteful worrying.

@Swarley Yes. Some of it was. Thanks. Thought a rant would suit. I'm sure someone will think I'm in the wrong or something. So whoops if putting it in this section was the wrong 1. I thought it was. xD

    ^ up there

I always do.. Unless I'm so sick I can't even move or drive down. I always put them in to the big boss/store boss and keep photos of them. I couldn't smile due to some migraine pain earlier today when he was talking to me, but yeah I try to. Though he makes you feel so little smiling even after the event is hard.

1 day he had a day off. There was 2 pallets that usually were done by another lady. I hadn't had to touch those types of pallets in more than 2 months. But of course. No one told me I was meant to do them that day. No one was there for me to ask. So of course when I realized the lady wasn't here the night supervisor started and wondered what was happening, called my boss, asked what was happening and then then minute you know I get called over the PA to pickup on line 3, he basically had a loud/raised voice, was very angry and wondered why I didn't do the pallets. I tried to squeeze in a "---- usually does them and I haven't had to do them for a few months remember, no one had let me know and there was no note in the logs book". He told me it was lying and that its bullshit because apparently I always do them.

He's just the kind of boss that literally causes workers to quit. I am the longest lasting Male Employee at the Store in the Grocery Division in 22 years... Every other male employee has left due to Wayne.

I don't want to leave. I like where I work and I enjoy my work. But my boss really ruins the experience. I've even lodged complaints through the regional managers and even the fair work groups and union and nothing ever ends up changing.

Could we swap for a week?

I would love a Friend and Leader type person as a Boss... Not a Old, Angry Man with problems with men.

You can't have a thread on codex without at least one person being an asshole. It's in the rules.

gee that sucks. i hope you won't stop finding for a new job somewhere else, @Maha. your boss has already formed a negative perception towards you and that's something that is very hard to change. it's only going to get worse so better abandon ship asap. all the best.

He wants a basic understanding of the post but its length discourages him from reading it. He's conveying this so that maybe OP will post an abridged version.

I had a boss like that once. Totally ruined the atmosphere of the restaurant, caused mass, ongoing turnover. It made me hate working shifts with her.

Though I gotta say, filing that complaint with regional, not smart. Any goodwill you might have earned just went out the window. I know that if someone were to file a complaint against me, I'd definitely hold it against them. But I'm also a nice guy, so odds would be low that the employee would have much to complain about. What probably happened was regional went to your manager and said "hey buddy, this guy said this about you, whats up?" and the manager would tell regional that you are a problem worker, but you do OK work. So you keep your job, but he knows you complained about him, in writing no less. That will stay in his file, and if he had any hopes of a raise or promotion, you just threw a kink in the works.

Either get him fired or find a new job, seems like the town 'aint big enough for the both of you.

No, I sent in a complaint, but apparently notes from multiple incidents etc weren't enough for any action to be taken. They just told me they can't do anything at the moment apart from send a note through to our store manager to let all the section managers know to check up on their leadership skills. A small change lasts maybe half a week.

I actually got called into the main office today and as usual there is still miss-communication going on between everyone. Apparently I'm Slow and not doing my job well enough or properly 1 or so days a week all the time. Its no that often and even then, they still don't understand that after my break, which is post breakdown. I regain energy and end up making up for my lost time in the rest of the night.

Oh and the store manager tried to claim he was told I was always late at getting to work.... I'm always the 1 getting to work 10-20 minutes early and already being signed on and ready to go... If I am ever late I call up and let them know how long I should be. I've only ever been legitimately late once, which was when we had a power outage and my phone died during the night and my alarm of course didn't go off and wake me up. But that was easily fixed because I just stayed back the time I was late by, which was about 10 minutes.

To be honest... If I could get him fired, I would but his daughter, mother and wife would still be working there and its already bad enough that there are 5 or 6 families with more than 3 people from each working in the store. I actually think it is more than that but I can't be bothered going online to look it up xD

@Silver In my 'meeting' or 'im gonna put you down because i want you to work better" talk I was told that they're basically "carrying" me because I'm apparently ending up behind too much etc etc. He said he did realize there are a lot of reasons for issues like this to arise from that have nothing to do with me etc and that since i've been there a few years now I should be striving to put myself out to do more than just fill and break down etc...

It got me in tears because I truly push myself to do the best I can at the time and when its not good enough no matter what I do it frustrates me. But oh well..

I guess I just keep giving it my all, try to ask when I see the store manager next when I usually get reported that I'm slow or whatever and why etc so I can try to fix it up...

And I have been looking for new work for more than a year and a half... I've easily applied to multiple jobs locally and in other places and as I said previously I have yet to get a call or message let alone an interview...
