Right well at my house, there is my mum my dad and of course myself :p
We all have very important infomation on your computers/laptops it needs to be backed up seriously! Now my mum only creates word docs and so forth shes a teacher so there is countless reports and crap like that, but my dad is a consultant and makes ridiculously huge powerpoint presentations im talking like 30-100mb sometimes - cos they include videos/sounds and stuff like that. Im kinda in the bad books atm for gettin nicked heh stupid me I no. Now I need some ideas on what I need to create a server type thing, what should I do in this situation, Im probably thinking about a 200gb hd. The server wont be under much strain cos well it will porbably only used every evening at about 10. I also need some help on what sort of software im going to need. All the ideas you can offer would be great :D

Network the whole house - Plug in, network found, able to connect to the server.

I'd advise if you're capable with networking in linux, you should use centOS, but if not, use M$ server 2003 - not too hard to use/manage networks with

(<3 my server... 768mb of dell server RAM, etc... runs like a beauty)

Its kinda not what I was after I no all that sorta stuff, im just after the software like to make my windows comp updated every evening at 10 so all the files in a particular folder are copied and sent to my server guess ill just knock up a program to do it
