Ever had a diary? Well I do/did. Yes, that's how sad Iam, I keep a diary and write alot of personal shit in it.
If I know you alot, you're most probably in it, give or take a small paragraph, but in it.
I'd write EVERYTHING. I started one at the begining of the year, roughly.
I'd write about my love life (not that I have much of one to begin this all with, mind you), my friends, family, favorite things, DEEPEST secrets, etc.
Just tonight I found out that my mother's been reading my diary almost every night and telling my dad all the dirt.

That bitch.
I feel so fucking violated.

It's almost midnight, I can't sleep. I'm re-reading my diary. It kills me knowing my mother knows this stuff. Man am I gonna give it to her tomorrow. Seriously.
You have no idea how upset Iam. That's the first time I swore on this board, too!
Im only half way threw and I wrote soo many things I wanna cry at the fact she knows them.
And the ironic part is she gave me the freakin book for Christmas and wrote 'Your secrets're safe in here. -mom xox'
I regret not locking it, though. See where laziness gets you ..

Im sorry, I need to rant about this somewhere, since it looks like I dont have anywhere else too.
Well when she goes to read her daily fill of my life, she'll read a nice long page of how upset Iam.

    Wow...
    That really sucks. O.o
What makes it worse is that your mom lied to you about it. If I were you, I would have blown up at my mom by then, but then again I'm a guy, I don't keep diaries. XD

Well, I guess I can see where you're coming from, having someone read something the was written for your eyes only can be upsetting, but she's your mom and was probably worried about you...or just wanted to know what was going on with her little girl. I'm not trying to justify her, what she did was wrong, but it probably isn't as bad as you think...Just cool down a bit, it's not the end of the world :)

Cussing is bad, *tsk tsk*. As long as she doesn't read about your porn addiction... ;)

It's one thing to read it, but to buy it for you just to read it... Damn.

    lmao. that's awesome.

It's funny how your mother is so devoid in her abilities of parenting that she feels she must invade your privacy in order to retrieve information which she could otherwise receive through normal techniques of conversation.

That's why I never keep this kind of stuff... some thoughts and feelings should never leave the conscious brain. :p

    paper trail = no deniability.

I dont know know what kind of relationship you have with your mom, but maybe she's reading it because she cares about you or maybe she's worried? Parents often do stupid stuff, and often invade the privacy of their kids, but often it's because they care about them.
If you're really upset it's best not to think about it
Read a book and then go to sleep, once you wake up you'll feel a whole lot better.
Im living alone right now, and I was really depressed/angry yesterday, I just found the biggest book I could and started reading it. It took my mind off things and helped me calm down.

    Wow! That really sucks.

I keep a diary, although I keep all my really deep secrets and thoughts in my head. I know that one day someone will end up reading it [knowing my family], so I only write down things that aren't too embarrassing or stuff they already know about..

Yeah, I don't trust diaries very much.
I can't believe your own mother would do something like that :(

    I didn't do it

Well thanks for not stating the obvious.

maybe you can turn this around Cara.

Does she know you know already?

If not you can totally turn it around. Either start righting really bad stuff like how your doing hard drugs and how your sleeping around and how your falling in love with a girl. Then in about a month right in it saying how you know your mom has been reading your diary for a year and that it is really sad how you think you can trust someone.

or you can go about it by continuing to right and turn it into a story so that your mom will think it is just a story you have been writing the whole time.

I feel very much for you. Trust is a problem I have had for a long time in my life and to be violated like that would anger me like nothing else.

If I were you, I would write a note about how despicable of a thing she has done by reading and sharing this information for her to discover.

Man that really sucks. But i have an idea :)
How about instead of rawring at your mother you could just write about it in your diary "Dear mum i know you've been reading my diary so FUCK YOU!!!"
That would shut her up ^_^

if anybody read my diary id freaking slap them and kick at them until they are almost dead!!!!
i know your anger, one of my friends read it and laughed aloud.... i hate her for misunderstanding me and not giving crap about my FEELINGS.... yes for those who dont know FEELINGS EXIST!!! NOT JUST YOU HAVE FEELINGS!!!!

*hugs Cara* you really.... have my deepest sympothy and tears.... you have a right to rant. on a page casually write something like "found out my mom is reading the diary she gave me, every night, i hate no one else in the world as much as that promise breaker."

The only perfect way to get rid of a body.

Cara, you should keep in mind that the person invading your privacy is your mother. I'm not trying to rationalize her crime but she's the mom who loved and cared about you since the day you were born. Maybe she's just trying to keep up with you because you don't talk to her or she wants to know more about her daughter. You don't want to hurt her feelings by writing something bad your mom in your diary or even calling her out. If you feel it's such a big problem, sit down with both of your parents and confront them. Dinner time is a great way for a family to sit down and just talk. Hope everything goes well with the path you choose.

Just think about this quote, "Your secrets're safe in here. -mom xox". Does that not ooze facetiousness in light of the situation? Any normal person understands a diary is another man / woman's deeper thoughts that they don't want exposed and to not read it if they respect that concept.

For what it's worth (and probably not much) ... if it were me I would sit down with my mother and (calmly and rationally) tell her that I know she's been reading my diary. I would go on to explain how I feel like my privacy has been violated, and that I am feeling hurt and angry, and most importantly disappointed in her for breaking my trust in her.

The message gets across the best if you speak to her calmly and coolly. Blowing your stack will likely only aggravate the situation.

In hindsight that's what I should have done anyway. When it happened to me I was like 13 or 14 or something (I'm 26 now, so it was too long ago to remember :p ) ... I retaliated with anger and yelled and ranted and raved ... and it didn't fix things. Nor did it really make me feel better. Ah the knowledge we find in hindsight!

omg.. :crybaby: sooo upsetting..But nowadays, some kids ruin it for everyone.. I have a friend who actually started a relationship with a guy in prison and he was supposed to go to her house when he got out.. Luckily, her dad read her dairy and found out about what was going on.. When other parents hear about this kind of stuff, they get all gungho about invading their child's private things.. Sadly, as long as we are minors living under our parents roofs, they have the right to do so.. Some kids are really immature and this is good for them, but it sucks for the rest of us :(
