Wherever we got it, we had a major virus leak. Adware, Spyware, and Trojans out the ass. Please help me fix this. I ran Avast! and Nortaon (at different times) and I hopefully have cleaned everything out, but now my PC runs like shit, won't run Firefox, or any other program for that matter, with the exception of virus protection programs and the task manager.

Whenever I try to minimize something, it no longer shows up in the taskbar at the bottom.

These processes are EATING up my CPU usage. I stay at 100% CPU usage and I can't do anything else.

DISCUpdatemgr.exe
DISCover
DiscStreamHub.exe

Some processes I do not know what they are.

Kmaestro.exe
oodag.exe ( I think that may be the O&O defrag program)

Speaking of O&O Sakura thinks that we may have gotten hit from the keygen it came with.

Please help. I don't want to format my PC, but I will if I have to. I am getting more and more frustrated by the minute, so ANY help will be appreciated.

If I do have to format, can anyone help me get any vital things back? I've got a removable HD, so I can get all my music and stuff off. I am typing this on the laptop, BTW, not the PC. I can't do shit with the PC. Arr.

Download Hijackthis and then rename it to something like "tree.exe", then run it and save the log. Post the log here and on http://forums.spywar...o.com/index.php?

Yes, Terminate ALL the processes you can that windows doesn't need. These will mainly be in "system" and "computer name".

You can try running hijackthis and posting the log to http://www.hijackthis.de/ and it will tell you if any processes are malicious.

Also try checking msconfig to make sure that nothing is set to open when you start your computer which you dont want to.

I terminated all the processes that were using CPU and the idle status took over all the CPU. In short, no effect.

Update: Now my toolbar is gone.

I'll try to put HiJackthis on my HD and transfer it to the PC.

*moves to Tech & Help Area*

Normally I would recommend running a scan with Kasperky-AV (using a free trial), but as it seems you're using 100% CPU, I doubt you'd be able to get it running. Give it a try anyway though, and good luck!

Get Ewido Anti Malware Free Version and run a full system scan AFTER posting hjt logs etc.

I cannot access the internet on the PC and its up to my removable HD to get anything new on the PC. As its looking, the PC is not responding to it being plugged in, so I'm barked. Its a USB, BTW.

Alright, how can I do a system restoration or whatever it may be called? Maybe I can do that. I don't ever remember manually backing up my data though.

DISCUpdatemgr.exe
DiscStreamHub.exe
DISCUpdMgr.exe

Those three specific processes are eating the CPU.

(When I end thier process, the System Idle Process takes over all the CPU. Tell me how something "IDLE" does anything? O.o Arr.) Ignore this part. I am a noob.

System Restore:
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore
Restore checkpoints are automatically created by your computer. Usually after you install software and the like.

Good luck. If that doesn't work load up in safe mode and run AVG, worked for me.

I've run all the antivirus I can. I have no access to the internet, no way to transfer files into the PC. And now, it won't even let me System Restore.

Reformat in order? sad.gif

Did you run those anti-viruses in safe mode?

If you did then you did everything you can and have to reformat.

Or you can install Windows in a different directory, boot that Windows, copy your important files and then format

No clue, you could get a replacement cd or install Linux. If you don't have Linux you can get a Live Cd mailed to you but that will take a while.

https://shipit.kubuntu.org/

Or you can connect a second HDD to your mobo, boot from that HDD and copy the files.

I have no idea how to do that. All I have is a removable USB hard drive at my disposal.

You'd need a second internal one with a working OS to do what I said. Just get power to the HDD, connect it as a slave and choose to boot from HDD(2) in your Bios. Then open up your first HDD and copy and pase what you want to your second HDD

Wow, Eli, your computer has gone straight to hell..

What exactly were you downloading to get crap like this? blink.gif

I'd try safe mode firstoff, and make sure you're NOT connected to the internet in ANY way (wireless or wired). Holding F8 during startup will usually get you the startup options. Pick safe mode, and run your scanners in there. You might possibly be able to copy files from safe mode as well.

Barring that, it sounds like your only option is to reformat.

If you're adventurous, go ahead and try Linux.. If you can't download an ISO, I could mail you a copy.. Let me know if you're interested.
