This is just a suggestion, as I have seen it work quite well on websites in the past. If you make tutorials able to be viewed by the public (unregistered guests), it will allow the website to submit them in to large tutorial directories on the internet. (An example being good-tutorials.com)

NeoCodex has some top quality tutorials, so if various members did submit them to a lot of directories, the board could be seeing more visitors who come for the tutorials and stay for the community. Right now, I would say over 95% of members join up for the programs, which is a shame seeing as though that is not all NeoCodex is about.

If it is successful we might get some new members with new expertise in different areas etc. Just a thought.

It's a good idea but members from other sites might come and steal the tuts and post them on their website saying they made it.

Yeah, I think it would lead to a lot of ripping, too. 1we8.gif

If you kept that state of mind open source projects wouldn't exist. I'm for it

Do you mean open source projects for the public or open source projects among the codex programmers? I have no problem if there is a project for programmers only - I would consider all the programmers here pretty trustworthy, so I would feel comfortable sharing code. But it's different if suddenly that information were to be released to anybody.

A lot of the GFX tutorials are watermarked.

And besides, all the public tutorials are just as easily ripped by a malicious user registering and thieving...

I think this has more upsides than downsides...

I agree because that way we won't have as many leechers. I don't like leechers. tongue.gif

i think they should be viewable by everyone, it's not exactly difficult to sign up to rip a tutoiral, and by letting anyone view them we may get new members

It's quite easy to remove watermarks.

I agree with this idea proposal.

Like Joe said, if someone was going to rip tutorials, i'm sure registering an account wouldn't be much of a barrier in their way.

It'd certainely help bring in different traffic to this site, and i'm all for it.

I like the idea, might give people a reason to make some more tuts too.

I don't see why the discussion of ripping came up. Ripping can occur whatever way people wanted. People could just sign up and take the tutorial. I, as a programmer don't care if someone steals my tutorial, for I know that more people are going to credit off my work.

I think most programmers and designers who submit their tutorials would be for this, seeing as though, if it goes successfully there will be a large audience for their hard work.

Ok, well... if you've seen it work at other places before, I guess we can look into it.

Yes, but then you need to get the advertising team or whatever to try and get the tutorials on as many websites as possible smile.gif

You could always just give the programmers an option of whether they want to make it public or not when they post the actual tutorial, then it's the best of both worlds. tongue.gif

That is an awesome idea. biggrin.gif We could have a selection area where you can choose wheter the tutorial will be Public or Member Only or Higher sections if needed.
