I'm just saying that pure science is slightly more believeable than a dusty old book written by a random bearded bloke's mates 2000 years ago when they still thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth smile.gif

The Bible does not ever refer to the earth being flat:
http://www.christian...n/edn-c015.html

The Bible also wasnt written 2000 years ago, the New Testament was, but the Old Testament goes back to about 1400 BC.

And Ill let Alias deal with the part about the sun revolving around us 1we8.gif I dont know much about that topic 1we8.gif

Lucky guess Alias. But I don't get why you guys are trying to persuade your points on one another. Kim will never love God and Alias will always believe in him.

Can't love something that doesn't exist.. it explains why I've never had erotic dreams about Santa.

Are you... trying to tell me... that... Santa doesnt exist?

/runs around weeping.

You cant love something that doesnt exist, yet you can trust a theory?

See, evolution and natural selection in itself isn't a theory because we see it happening not only slowly in animals, but in bacteria such as MRSA. Not only that, but it makes sense. The idea of some bloke with a white beard making us out of clay doesn't for some reason.

Microevolution- So what-We have seen it, and its not that big of a deal. Thats not what this is about. This is about macroevolution, when will that be proven? When will fish move out of water, grow legs, and start walking around? 1we8.gif

Why would fish need to? Fish aren't in the sea because they're lagging behind in evolution. Anything that is alive and surviving is proof in evolution. Legged fish would only become selected if having legs was beneficiary to them. And even if it were, it would not evolve for thousands or millions of years. We have fossil evidence and biological evidence (there are some fish that have stumps) that show the in-between stages.

It may just be the atheist in me, but I actually cannot understand believing a creation story involving a talking snake ahead of the truth- or at the very least, the best theory we have.

That's because you have no sense of faith, and you blindly follow that of which you are told is right. I really don't care what you think about the true God, just know that you were given a chance and you chose to blindly ignore it. I bet you can't even name the 6 types of evolution, and you're sitting here trying to tell me about it?

Er. I don't see anything Kim said that was directed at you. You have your faith in God, and she has her faith in science. I see no difference.
That's because you have no sense of faith, and you blindly follow that of which you are told is right.
You must not have been thinking on that one. Growing up as a Catholic, I was taught to follow what I was told is right, God. Just because her faith does not lie where your faith does, does not mean she has faith. I questioned religion as others have questioned science. She has her opinion and you have yours.

See, this is extremely ironic. If I'd have blindly followed thay of which I was told; I might have just followed the bible. I've been baptised, I went to church, was brought up Christian..all that jazz. But I chose to not believe because I made up my own mind, the more I read into science and philosophy, the more I realised that there isn't a sentient being known as 'God'. In my view, all 'God' could possibly be is the burst of energy that created matter at the beginning of the universe. I get very irritated when preached at for not having the right view. My aunt was very evangelical, and tried to convert me by sending me god-bothering magazines, and telling me she was worried for my soul.. I've made an educated decision in what I believe, and I will defend it to the end.

Please do not question my intelligence or knowledge. I've studied A Level Biology, my mum has a degree in the subject; I've grown up in a science orientated household. I read Steve Jones and other evolutionary writers for christs sake. Simply because I haven't pasted a wikipedia article or whatever, don't assume I'm uneducated.

Did you know that atheists are one of the most discriminated 'religious' group? They're the most mistrusted minority among Americans. Funny, I was always told that Christians preached tolerant smile.gif

PS. Thanks Irtrendy xx

You "learned" that God doesn't exist? And how exactly did you go about "learning" this? Because as far as I know there is nothing that exists to this day that proves God does not exist. Mabye you're just getting too frustrated and need to think about what you say?

Atheism is a VERY wide group, it's basically anyone who does not believe in a superior being, how exactly does one discriminate against that? I only said you probably don't know the different types of evolution because the way you were talking sounded as if you didn't know the first thing about evolution, more like the thousands of "athiests" I here everyday saying they believe in "evolution" and have no idea what it means. I wasn't trying to discriminate you, as you so blantly thought, only making a conclusion off the way you acted/talked.

Anyways, I didn't find a point in that post .. at all. All I heard was your poor life's story, if you're going to say something, please make it somehow relate to the debates, if you want to tell me your life story, PM me, because you're wasting my time.

kthxbye

I'll break this down for you, so as not to waste your time, which I'm sure could be put to much better use than being catty towards me.

:: What's the point in writing a biological essay on a neopets board when the average age here is probably about 14?

:: I never said I learnt that God didn't exist. I said realised. A religious revelation if you will.

:: Unfortunately, you yourself are confusing atheists and agnostics. Look them up.

:: All I've heard from you is berating my beliefs and attacking me personally.. If you'd like to continue to do that, please PM me, because you're wasting everyone's time here with your insults. I'm sure if I said that, hypothetically, you were an anal, closed-minded, egotistical, god-bothering arselicker you'd be upset from the personal attack. It's good that I won't say that about you.. I might have got warned. smile.gif

I think I'll end this with a quote too.

Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion

Which is what I just said, in 10th grader terms anyways, didn't think about the word deities. So, no, I wasn't getting them confused smile.gif

I'm not telling you your belief is wrong, i'm telling you that your belief is no better than mine. You keep saying things like "more believable" when in reality they are just the same. That's why I quoted what what's his name said about both involving faith, as long as you except that fact, I really don't care, it's when you blantly disregard it that I start to get irritated. And don't worry about saying all that stuff, it's been said to me multiple times, and no one got warned, iv'e gotten used to it though.

I don't see anyone saying "my belief is better than alias' lolol!". When they say that it is "more believable" they mean that it is more believable to them. They are not saying that you are stupid, although they might call you close-minded. They are just saying they chose to believe science over religion. Also, you just told Kim that she had "no sense of faith", and then quoted me for telling you she had faith in science. Contradiction much?

I don't know how to make it much clearer. I'm sure no one here is saying your religion is wrong, they just do not believe it. There is no need to fight every single person that does not believe what you do.

Its to what extent has god been proven to her.

If anyone were to full out prove god existed and there was a hevean and hell then most of people would be followers.

Well, because of such ridiculous posts, I'm overwhelmed to reply to them. My opinion is this. People need to think for themselves, not just dive into what something says because its the newest trend or whatever bullshit you want to call it. The reason behind something is more important than the heart. A gut feeling of joy is not nessecarily the truth. It's what makes the person feel better. This can be applied to a large amount of American atheists, who are elitist because they feel they know the real truth, and Christians, because they are fed a feel-good interpretation of the bible. And of course, they feed into stupid propoganda as the norm is. I'd like to smoke weed on the street, but I know that logically, with a police station going by my house everytime they leave, that I could probably get caught.

This thread is quickly turning into bashing one religion after another. Requesting to have it closed now. It's a damn shame that a topic about a scientific theory cant stay on track when religion is introduced as an answer.
