Since the rep system has came it has only been bad in my opinion. It has lead to countless arguements and started flame wars. Bottom line is some people are to immature to use the rep system. Its just a select few that ruin it but those few are seen far more then everyone else who arnt abusing it. I suggest we change it or get rid of it. I would like to here other peoples opinion before i say my suggestion if it is kept.

Edit: Note people i didnt say i want all rep systems gone totally forever. I said i want the rep system we have now at a current time gone or modified. The only rep system i want gone is the one we have now if it stays the same.

DOUBLE POST. -REP YOU FREAKING MORON.

I agree, it doesn't serve a point and instigates flame wars.

Yeah, it's an educational process that lets people know whether or not their posts are good or not. You can try and get undeserved reputation removed like I did with Zachafer's "u r gay" -rep.

Have no fear, it's under discussion as we speak.

Don't think it's escaped the staff's attention.

That's needless work for mods, if you were someone else you might of flamed the crap out of Zachafer and if your posts are bad someone will tell you so or you'll get warned.

I know its more work, but I honestly think that if the public where allowed to see other peoples rep it would help stop people abusing it. Especially if individuals would then report a rep like they could a post. So they spot a member with an unusual red pip with their name, they can have a look see why they got it and either report it if it was completely unjust, or at least get more of an insight into that user and behaviour you might have missed. I can't see why anyone would mind having their rep viewed, it's something the public do anyway and it's nice stuff as well, instead of just having all warn info open to the public or whatever.

Maybe only private+ should be able to rep people?

Maybe a post on what as classified as deserving rep like for an example, someone makes the topic i like football and another person agrees so they give them +rep or vice versa they disagree and give them -rep. I dont see the point in that. +rep should be giving to people that help out like post a tutorial or do a special event. People should -rep because someone disagrees with something like hawk voted against homesexuality and got -rep for posting his opinion in a thread related to the topic. Now if someone goes around costantly spamming how they hate something or someone when it has no relation to the topic then that could qualify as a -rep situation.

Yeah I agree with that cooldude, there hasn't really been a lot of specification about what exactly determins rep, but then again if we're mature enough to have the system, I guess it can be assumed that we'd be mature enough to know when to rep/-rep. Unfortunately we aren't sad.gif.

I must admit though, it would be nice to actually get a +rep before it's taken away tongue.gif.

If someone abuses the rep system, why not just not let them use it?
That way the people who are mature enough to use it well, don't lose out.

Maybe not allow members to see who +repped or -repped them? Then people would have no fear of -repping someone and it would kinda get rid of flame wars because nobody would know who repped who.

I don't think the rep system is half bad. Makes someone feel like their hard work is appreciated. Just add strictness to illegal reps.

But then you'd just get some clever sods that'd go far enough to make topics demanding to know who did it. I can see it happening >_<.

I really like the reputation system because I've been able to show certain people that I appreciate their help, contributions, them as an overall person, etc. and someone has made my day with one of the reasons they gave me reputation. Although this can also be done over PM system, I like this way better in showing your appreciation for someone.

As for negative reputation, that's something that you just have to figure out on your own. When the time comes to give someone negative reputation, I'm sure you will be able to notice it. If not, just avoid giving it and resort to just PMing the person with your disagreement, if it offended you, etc.

It's just that some people have to come along and ruin it. I honestly wish that some of us were a little more mature so that we can be able to handle things like this. 1we8.gif

Erm, I think that would be a bit drastic, on a count of people are capable of reporting stupid -reps to staff and its not hard to display the +reps publically.
Plus, there was only a few fellows who abused it so far. tongue.gif

But I do think making only privates and above rep is a nice solution.
We just got it, too. Give it time .. o.o

Well a simple pm could be sent also to thank someone for their hardwork or we could just add a thanks mod. Maybe some think positive rep could distinguish(sp) as someone that has helped alot which could be true but the way things are going now people are gitting plus reps just for being friends/friendly with others not contributing to everyone really.

Not really, seems to me that people are giving +reps for contribution. I bet a lot more peopel would too, but they aren't used to the system yet. Altogether I think I've gotten 7 or 8 +reps and all were for a tutorial/program (contribution). I saw some cases were there was -rep bouncing back and forth with other people, but if we make the consequences a bit strict then I doubt it would happen.
