Codex has gone to shit because of its (lack of) members.

We lose a bunch, and gain a few.

Seriously.

It's not staff's fault.

It's not the boring topics.

It's that NO ONE CARES

and NO ONE IS ON.

I like this topic, 2 things I want to say

    "E-Drama crackdown"

There are reasons its good, reasons its bad, First I'll say

E-Drama SHOULDN'T have to be removed

Right now its best for it to be removed because of the failure private member voting system we have right now. If E-Drama happens, the votes will be even more biased and corrupt than they already are, causing more chaos. If the system of private voting was changed to something based off accomplishments and your quality of a member overall, or even remove the democracy completely, E-Drama would be allowed and it would make the board much more entertaining and active. I have seen huge forums that have are extremely active that have a few administrators, and a few of their online buddies are the moderators, etc. It works for them, it should work for us, the moderators shouldn't be added ever unless 1 leaves, and the administration should pretty much always be the same.

    2. I like how you listed "3. Digg articles- I read them on Digg, I don't care to read them again"

    Umm......

    http://www.neocodex....mp;#entry963745
    and
    http://digg.com/offb..._Weird_Fetishes

looks like you just broke your own rule, guideline, whatever you want to call it

to be honest I think its a stupid guideline/rule because not everyone catches every single digg article and people like me would like to see what codex has to say about that particular digg article.

I'll leave the topic open. If any staff disagrees with me message me first.

I would expect it to stay open........ That would be horribly sad and disappointing if it was closed.

Not just that, if you noticed back in the day, like in 2004 when codex opened, NeoCodex has competition with other forums, now we don't, we have no contests between other forums and the rules on codex are much too strict making it boring

Honestly....you all need a project. Something to all get excitable about.

And yes, creationists are funny, I don't care if atheists sound rude when they say that, it's the truth ^-^

Neopets is shit because they are really starting to crack down on icing (I told them that I hadn't been online for a week and someone might have hijacked my account, and they basically said 'yeah, well we don't give a shit, just make a new account already'), LPC is shit because....well, I haven't actually attacked someone in ages because my training has lagged behind, and I don't play the other games.

A new game needs to pop up that people like talking about, then there would be about a day of activity before we slumped again.

And honestly, from what I saw of Rambo, he usually just said things like 'yay!' a lot; spam that didn't contribute and was only funny to the people that knew him, while Frizzle rarely ever said anything, and it usually wasn't that awesome or funny....so, just saying that all of Codex is completely shit now that they are gone is like saying Codex would be completely shit if all of leechers and bots were gone. Yeah, they were probably hilarious to people who've been here, but new people don't have any clue who the bark they are or why the bark they are funny.

Furthermore, if they were the only thing that made this site fun, then this site had some barking problems. You need to find a way to appeal to newer members, too; otherwise you might as well not allow anyone new to register, since the only things that make this site great are the good ol' rabblerousers. Of course rabblerousing makes for interesting posts....but I don't think that those guys ever made my blood boil, or fueled me to post anything above a one liner smiley or 'lol'. That's not interesting; that's spam elevated to an art level.

All we can do is try to find something to make everyone active. I haven't been around long enough to know what that something could be. You guys have been around through inactivity and activity, surely you have found a pattern?

I feel the anti-spam goes against itself.

If I was having a conversation with a friend in real life, if they said something funny, I'd probably laugh and maybe come out with "that was great". That would be all I want to reply with. If I had the same feeling here and wanted to reply to the same thing, I'd have to "LOL that was great. The only thing that got me about it was I didn't really agree with the reasons for which he claimed to be correct. They should probably change the..."

It's all good debating, but there have been a lot of times I go to post, think "oh no that'll be seen as spam", start to make it longer and then think "Meh bark this post".

You want a close community yet you're not allowed to speak too friendly. Everyone has to become a debating opponent/companion.

You should make a topic, where spam is allowed and post count doesn't change, where the soul purpose there is to talk without it having to be about the topic title! When the topic changes after a few posts, let it change. It'll be like one huge conversation that should go on for ages. If I found something funny I'd be able to reply with "LOL THAT WAS AWESOME", and if I wanted to add to it I could.

that only works in real life.

Precisely. Online, you have time to think out and formulate your response. But instead, you get a bunch of drunk people, trying to come up with a clever, witty retort, then they just end up overthinking things and spewing out a bunch of rambling bullshit. Funny in it's own way, but no where near as amusing as real life.

E-drama is fücking hilarious, except when religion is involved. At this point, it's been proved again and again that neither side is going to back down, regardless of how wrong they are. I finally learned that after getting fed up with AliasXNeo's rampant "OMG GAYS ARE EVIL AND SHOULD BURN ohmy.gif" arguments (incidentally, where the hell is he?"

Hum, I have to agree with the fact that we're a (semi-)mature community, I mean, what's the problem with using "bark"? My 10 years old cousin says bark, and people who are here are probably 10+ years old, an 6 year old child wouldn't look for cheats, even if it's for neopets...
I have to agree also with the fact that we have no interesting topics lately, I'm not going to say more because I, myself, have no interesting topics to show as my life is boring as sh**... If we can speak about drugs, alcohol and anything else, the bad words shouldn't be a problem... Hum... We need to get more active people, do something to get codex better, speaking around is good, but we need to DO more than talk, caught my thinking?

About that, I saw many topics on the suggestions area about an spamming area, all these ideas we're denied and mods/admins said that they wouldn't make an spam area... Spam area have it's bad and it's good:
For one side we can talk about anything without problems
The other side is that the spam area gets too crowded, and no one gets posts, because the other areas are forgotten, and that's true, when I first joined neocodex, I joined also a lot of neopets cheating sites, and some had these spam areas, it was impossible to talk there, and that's why I stuck with codex, by that time we had LOTS of topics a day, and they were interesting...

I think in the neopets sections higher ranked members can trade with each other...because compared to alot of other neopets related forums this is aloud...when i need to trade i need to go to a different forum just because this one has a lot of restrictions...which i know is for our safety but still...neopets section nowadays is very much lacking

well, codex has been a bit on the lazy side lately, I think all us young ones who are on here, there are a lot, are just growing out of the internet little by little, and taking on more responsibility in our lives, such as jobs. (my problem lately.) I do however see where you are coming from, E-drama keeps posts coming, and whos to say that a little bit of ranting isn't for the greater good.

nope because I don't believe that there shouldn't be digg articles, was just pointing it out since you went against something in your first post

The world filter: Shouldnt be here, again if other forums can live without one, I dont see why we're so much different. If a 10 year old joins codex and sees "bark", I doubt hes going to say "ohes noes" and leave..

Digg articles aren't really that big of a deal, its mainly religion and drugs that I have a problem with.

Drugs? Don't do them, don't care, don't want to talk about it

Well others do, so that also creates activity. Don't click the topic if you don't want to talk about it.

True, but how many times can people say 'Dude, drugs should be legalized...I smoked a joint the other day and felt nothing' before it gets boring? Drugs can't really be discussed too much unless a new drug is discovered, or someone has something -new- happen to them when they take a drug. Otherwise it's just a bunch of people who do drugs saying how great it is, followed by a few people saying how they don't like it.

Maybe a continuing drug thread would be good, though. If there was a stickied thread about it, people wouldn't repeat themselves and it would keep activity up.

But usually the drug threads are on peoples experiences, or what drugs are like around there, not simply "Bro I'm so high."
Maybe that thread would be good.

Hm....maybe a 'drug experiences' stickied thread? I wouldn't mind a 'dreams' stickied thread, too ^-^

Maybe a new sub-forum, that goes around things like medical, chemical, and dramatic? Have a little E-drama war about something, talk about some drug experiences, describe a dream or too...

    Why Codex sucks right now:
    1. Activity
      1. Active members have been banned
        1. Rambo (Annoying, spammy, obnoxious, but created activity)
        2. SimonTheMime (Avatar problems and maybe something else, I don't know the full story. We need a good "Discuss")
        3. Lee/Frizzle (Controversy creates activity, but he also was on frequently and posted, which produces more activity)
      2. Lack of interesting topics
        1. Not everyone likes drugs, nor do I want to talk about them every damn damn day
        2. Religion
          1. Must we beat it to death? There is at least a topic or two going on daily involving religion.
          2. Can't we be respectable if we do have a religious topic? -Cough- Aethiests -Cough-
            1. Every topic involving religion I hear "Organized religion sucks", either explain it or GTFO of the topic and keep your trap shut
            2. Don't criticize people because of what they believe in. Attack their arguement, not the person, and even then their belief won't change, because frankly, arguements online do jack shit
        3. Digg articles- I read them on Digg, I don't care to read them again
      3. Lack of things to reply to
        1. Stems from lack of interesting topics
        2. Also created by people not replying to other posts that may otherwise be interesting
    2. There is NO FUN
      1. The Staff
        1. E-Drama crackdown
          1. Damn near anything that may cause problems- Removed. God damnit, we're (Semi-)mature people here, we can handle it.
          2. Lack of E-Drama also lowers the activity level. Cracking down too hard also makes some regular posters post less frequently
        2. Obnoxious and not on top of things
          1. http://www.neocodex.us/forum/This-is-a-News-Post-t74816.html
            1. That topic was basically spam, at least say something that has gone on.
            2. Like Joe said, that dumb topic would draw attention from other, possibly interesting, topics
          2. The staff has plenty of shit to do that has not been done, in some cases for prolonged periods of time
            1. Codies?
            2. The tag contest?
            3. E-Zine?
            4. Revamping some stuff? (May be done, I'm not positive)
      2. Nothing to say
        1. Seriously, I have nothing to say
          1. Religion- Shit has been beat out of it
          2. Drugs? Don't do them, don't care, don't want to talk about it
        2. Smart ass replies?
          1. Nothing to reply to, so I can't say anything
          2. Even if I did, I'd get a warn because of the anti-E-Drama regime
So yeah, I spent a little bit of time on that. May contain some spelling mistakes, because for some reason Firefox has decided not to underline anything, even when I noticed I mistyped it. Thats my feelings about Codex right now, say whatever you want, I don't care. Add to it if you wish, call it stupid, I don't care. Its my opinion that I'm entitled to.

Edit: Added Digg articles to list.
