This has probably been asked on Codex before.

I live in Florida, and this morning one of my teachers asked if I was from up North, saying I sounded like I could be from like, New England or something. Then other students agreed, saying that since I speak articulately, one wouldn't guess I am from the South =P

But something interesting... I was in Chicago several months ago, and someone asked me if I was from the South.

So in the South, I sound like from up North, and in the North, I sound like I am from down South. I just don't fit in anywhere =(

What 'bout you folks, boy howdy?

My (English) accent is horrible. Pure and simple. I blame my Slavic ancestry.

I would have to say my own accent is fairly unique. Factors such as immediate family being from So Cal and then living in the not so deep south for about 20years. I tend to speak fairly clearly for someone who has spent the majority of thier life in my area, but still tend to roll my "r"'s tongue.gif

I think all he meant was the stereotypical posh accent. Supposedly when I try to have what is the stereotypical posh accent I sound Irish. As in city Irish rather than the thick stuff. Odd.

I have a generic American accent but mixed in with what Calum calls a posh american accent. I think they call it midwestern?

Supposedly I have about as stereotypical an English accent as you can get. Spending most of your life living right on the south coast does that. At heart I'm Scottish though and the more tired I get the more I revert to the Edinburgh accent I had as a kid.

    Down girl. He's mine.

I used to have a full-on scouser accent, used to live on the wirral. Moved down to surrey tho, and now I have a weird kinda-normal accent.

I have the same issue. I live up by Chicago. When I visit my relatives in Canada they giggle at my words like braaaatwurst, Chicaaaaago, and pop. When I get back from Canada, people think I am from there?!?!

I suppose we all pick up a little regional dialect when we travel in a subconsious attempt to fit in.

Actually no. I speak 'Received Pronunciation' (Posh English Stereotype hah), I can only actually do a Bristolian accent up to about 10 seconds. After which I start going posh again hah. tongue.gif

Supposedly for a northerner I speak posh, any other northern person thinks I do, southern people think I'm just the same as every other northerner though tongue.gif. I'm on the very west of Lancashire though and it's only as you go inland that Lancashire starts getting common tongue.gif.

I wish I had an Irish country accent sad.gif All I have now is a generic American one. They've tried very hard to convert me to Texan; I've fought back with a vengeance.

I have a very slight southern accent because of where I live, but I'm trying to break free of it since I don't want to be looked at oddly when I move to New York in a few months. Didn't even get it by choice, I was born here. D:
