How much would you pay for a memory chip in your brain?

Article link - Digg Link

It's kinda creepy to think that this honestly could be, and probably is, the future. Imagine a memory chip in your brain that not only makes you have better memor. Also it could teach you things like history, math, science, different languages and has the full ability to manipulate you in any way it sees fit.

INCOMING OMG OMG THE GOVERNMENT IS CONSPIRING AGIANST ME!

Fuck that. I'd pay no more than $2000.

Wow, that would be pretty cool, but also pretty scary. I've had imaginary numbers explained to me god knows how many times and I still don't get it =( I need a memory chip -nod nod-

I would feel bad for the poor guy they ends up with a overseas knock off that does nothing but teach him songs from the 80's.

I myself would not feel I could trust anything implanted in my brain.

I'd be worried about it, just because I don't think the brain is meant to have stuff attached to it tongue.gif

Sounds very easily lethal.

You may get to "download" all this information or so called "knowledge," but I wouldn't find it useful at all. What's really sketchy is that the government would have a way of extracting information from your mind.

Yeah, no thanks. Wouldn't want anything like that attached to my brain or anywhere else on my body. Sounds like a perfect way for you to be controlled by other people too, so yeah. D;

Technology can try but it can never replicate the processes that go on the human brain. In my opinion the human brain is the pinnacle of complexity and advancement.

To stay on topic: I wouldn't want my brain to have a chip in it so....

I don't think I would either, so scary to think about what could happen.

You wouldn't need school anymore, period. First 18 - 22 years of your life would basically be spent working as you could just have all the knowledge you could need, except for street smarts, uploaded straight into you. Anything that is " real " could easily be made up and added to you so that instead of thinking what really happened you would think something completely different, even if you saw it with your own eyes a year earlier. Your opinions would / could no longer be yours, but the instead the opinions of the highest bidder or the creator of the chips software.

I'm happy with my brain as it is and I'm not interested in having a chip implanted inside it. tongue.gif

Would be nice if the basics like proper grammar and basic math were given to you, and you could spend the time you would usually spend on math/english learning interesting stuff like philosophy, arts, humanities, etc. That way if anything, human life would become even more human.

Honestly, all possibilities aside, I like the idea.
I'm already a military drone, (Had my swear-in session four hours ago. biggrin.gif), so I figure let them have the brain if I can benefit from it.

A lot o' Orwellian prophecies coming here, based around some major assumptions in this idea. Would the government be allowed to have control over this technology for the general populace? Doubtful, too many people fear government control. Would you have to have these? Doubtful. Would opinions be placed in your mind? It would be bad business practices, and unless the government took over production, they would be tested and screened heavily by some memory chip agency to make sure it was "safe."

I can't say a price, haha. Inflation, supply, et cetera. I would most likely get one though.
