Just for Gymnastics, yeah. Because the younger the competitor is the lighter they're likely to be and so will have a greater strength/weight ratio making almost every event easier. Gives you a huge advantage.

The movement in diving is controlled by gravity so as long as you're strong enough to cope with the spins and everything it shouldn't make too much difference.

Boo. Laser got there first.

Yes, yes he did tongue.gif. Thank you for going into more detail though *nod*

So if it's just gymnastics that has the 16 age limit, was is it for the rest of the events?

I guess nothing? If they qualify then they can go. Thinking about it from the point of view of what Ali and Laser said, there aren't really many other sports where having a childs build would really be of an advantage. Not that I can think of off the top of my head anyways.

I would say diving....childs body = smaller frame and therefore less of a splash tongue.gif. Surely there should be different age categories or something. Junior and senior maybe smile1.gif . A child body would also be good for the equestrian as the horse would be carrying less weight and should therefore be able to move more freely.

I think there might be a minimum age for the weight lifting....I'm not certain though.

Nah, personally I reckon lack of proper muscle would hold you back in diving and lack of proper experience would hold you back in horse riding. I mean, I'm saying this and know nothing about either really, but yeah tongue.gif.

You have to be 18 for Equestrian I believe and the horse itself has to be...7? You can probably do more damage to yourself in horse riding than anything else because even at Olympic level you can still take a very nasty fall and it's quite possible to die from it. I think the age restrictions are there so the horse is less likely to be temperamental and you're mature enough and have enough experience to react if anything does go wrong. It takes years to train a horse to that sort of level anyway and you're not likely to have the skill to start that training when you're young anyway. Hence why a lot of Equestrain Olympians are very old in comparison to other sports.

And yeah, from what I've read you need quite a bit of muscle there for the diving else you're unable to do a lot of the fancy stuff. tongue.gif Which is why Tom Daley's difficulty levels are quite a lot lower than other divers.
