I think we really need one now, but none are qualified. So I guess it's a question as to whether we lower our standards in promoting an admin.. and we might also consider straying from the typical nomination of a supermod.. and maybe think outside the box.

Opinions?

Should be up to Pyke. If Pyke feels he can handle the work solo then there's no need for anohter one and if he needs a hand then let the kiss-assing begin tongue.gif

There's only one or two candidates I can think of who can be admins, and I know one of them doesn't want to be. Ultimately up to pyke, but maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea if we choose the right person. Who that right person is though...not a clue. tongue.gif

Add two super moderators and promote another moderator. You really don't need too many admins on a forum, just one who can check in time to time and approve modifications/updates/etc. Otherwise, super moderators can take care of most business.

We don't need more of anything. Has no one noticed the 100 posts a day max?

    We don't need admins.
    We don't need SMods.
    We don't need Mods.

    Promoting people is stupid.

We need active Techs, that's it.

The reason I brought this up is maybe paying programmers will help promote activity.
But we don't even have an admin to implement such an idea.

We're at a dead end here.
    SOMETHING needs to be done.

We say the same thing every month. smile.gif It's not going to change freak. You'll realize in six months that it's not gonna happen. I was screaming the same thing six months ago and here we are now under the same situation.

I agree with this. Maybe make a mod an smod and add a new mod.

If you want my advice: You guys need to have at least another two admins in power, preferrably people that are well liked and that will take the site in a direction that everyone wants it to go. wink.gif These people can learn what buttons to push as they become more experienced, but what is more important is their potential since they will be the face of the site. Past or current staff experience is a very good asset. So is how long you've been here and how well you're involved with the site.

Since Hydrogen and Brandon are the only ones left, I can see some formalities that were once part of admin nomination no longer being important since the rank is a rather inactive one right now. If anyone remembers what the site was like in 2005, there were six of us admins (five not counting AUS since he resigned in 2005 sometime). Some of the admins were inexperienced technically, but were good at public relations. Some were good with technical issues but disliked dealing with public issues. All felt the passion for making the site a better place. This shows that you don't neccessarily need a well-rounded person to hold the admin position, but rather, a bunch of specialists that aren't dolts when it comes to representing the site when the others aren't present. Oh, and they need to be active and give up copious amounts of their time. laugh.gif

Usually, but sometimes there are issues with how much power is given to who in the hierarchy. Sometimes it's just very nice to have an admin on and have stuff get done right then and there. Even when there were six of us, I didn't think that many admins spoiled the soup. It was rather fun. tongue.gif

Well we need to decide how to pick any new administration. I think Cam has a point about ditching the old style of promotions (which would be super-mod to admin) and going outside the box a bit. I think we need to decide on how many positions to fill, what each position (like public policy, general administration, tech, etc.) will represent, and then decide on who goes where (maybe a general poll or administrative decision).

    Thoughts?

    Admin(s) can decide on that.

    ... tongue.gif

Idea of a new admin hasn't completely escaped me. Have one or two people in mind with who it'd be as well. Not that a new admin is something that'll happen.

Considering it's just you and Hydro who's MIA, maybe you (or you guys) should nominate people and we should vote?

Bad idea. The choice shouldn't be public because it'll be totally bias towards friends etc. I think it should be up to the remaining admin (no I don't count hydro as admin anymore) and the 2 smods to decide tbh.

There's more bias leaving the decision up to 1 or 3 people rather than a few hundred, no?
If anything, it could simply help Pyke decide, but not be definitive. A poll would be useful either way

I also think a privatemember+ voting would be more useful.
