Know anyone?
I heard there were plans for a summer revival of sorts, although I may have just made that up.

now it's a ghost town.
our so called leaders prostituted us to the west, destroyed our culture, our economies...our honour.
cod4 intro applies well

We make that up every summer!
We never had 50,000 and I don't think we've cost you any honor.

We never had 50,000 and I don't think we've cost you any honor.
it was symbolic!
seriously:
- admins and founders gone
- no serious programmers remain. most programs outdated. no big projects going on
- most days the only posts are from neopets/lpc and most of us have stopped playing those
- a lot of members gone/inactive
I know everyone feels it. codex is like toppled, heavy breathing horse that broke a leg after a race.
with every day, there's less reason to visit and click that new posts button

Neoboard advertising (My friends once advertised her site on neopets and got over 60 users in a few hours)
Skins and other stuff.
Can't think of anything else, most neo forums I know nowadays have let themselves go...

There are times to use Neoboard advertising, believe it or not. It seems to work well when a very popular feature is revealed on the site, like the plot decoders. When padora and I ran the MSN group spammers, the site's traffic, registrations, and number of backlinks seemed to increase, with the backlinks giving us a new source of permanent traffic.
Google ranks websites primarily based on how "popular" they are (ie. how many other sites link to that site). Our Yahoo Answer/Neoboard spamming boosted that quite a bit. Look at around February 8th, 2008 in Google Analytics (you should have access to it). Notice the spike, and how the site's traffic hasn't really returned to the level it has yet (which I seem to think is because of our increased rank in the search engines from having these extra backlinks). You can take a look under "Traffic Sources" to see that the various yahoo and msn domains were sending us almost as much traffic as google was.
I think the reason why we're not seeing the effects of this "increased permanent traffic" anymore is because users are bouncing from the site like crazy. There's nothing here that they see interest in because as soon as they visit the site, they disappear. Our bounce rate was good when the plot was happening because we made it pretty clear where to get everything.
Also, I think TNT gets pissed off when blatantly illegal activity is happening, like the sale of neopoints or any other elements of their intellectual property. Designing bots to "use" their site in a public manner (much like how anyone else would with a browser) is seemingly minor to them in the grand scheme of things, just from looking at history.
There is no longer an active administration (as in actively planning and coordinating the creation or improvement of new services), an active tech to fix the forum software's problems, and content generation has pretty much grinded to a halt. There are also some deep-rooted problems as far as the staff goes, with the leadership disagreeing with each other on many things.
But the site is not dead.

With all due respect though, Tetiel, this time it is closer to being dead than ever before.
If TNT were ever planning to do anything about NeoCodex they would have done it years ago. Look at us now, Kitsune. We're washed up.
I have no reason to post, and in reality, no real reason to want to come here anymore. I haven't really played NeoPets since the month after I joined, and the majority of members I do, or at least used to speak to have left also, which definitely doesn't help the matter. On top of that, NeoPets is rather old - the cheating scene also. For most programmers, it is child's play to code a program for NeoPets, and there is nothing to gain except a little fame from quiet communities founded by people who rarely play NeoPets anymore, if at all. There is really no where else for Codex to proceed now besides backwards - Codex gracefully reached it's peak in late '04 - early '05 and has rapidly fell to a rock bottom low. In all honesty, I even think the website was more active when it first formed
A lot of the staff (there are of course particular staff members I dislike, and yes, this is directed towards you) shouldn't be where they are right now, and from what I have heard constantly argue, or at least have conflicting opinions on future of NeoCodex. There is no futural structure for the website, no devoted admins coding scripts, programs, or dedicating considerable time to the community.
The site has really only gone downhill since SL64 and Noitidart left the staff team - but what else can I say, they were really the only ones putting in great effort.
