You could never understand the mental trials a professional athlete is put through. Not only do they have the stress of the game, but there's some popular stories about women sleeping with the player with a condom and taking the condom and pouring the fluid in just to get money from the guy. I would sit there, read your posts and go - wow, she's witty. Hope she sticks around, will make for some interesting conversation down the track - then you got pink'd. Shit got real. Wit went to venom. I would still titter a bit whenever you started screaming at someone for whatever, but at least there were other moderators around to put you in your place. The rants were funny. I was surprised you still had mod when I came back a while ago, I come back now and lo and behold - you're smod, half the founders have quit, most of the remaining members are old regulars and almost all of them are either retired or private and the site is slowly withering away until Hydro just forgets to pay the bandwidth one month and it plops off the face of the earth.

I dunno about you, but I think the site deserves a little more than a condescending smod trampling all over it's grave. Sure, I did the same thing when it was beginning, but I had an excuse - I was (and still am, to some degree) a whiny fucking teenager who had pretty severe issues. What are you? A goddamn law student. A thirty something. Jesus christ, draw the goddamn line - are you going to act your fucking age and actually do what the title says, or are you going to be another me and just dick around with the title until you and everybody else gets bored, quits and forgets the place ever existed?

You used to be cool before you got titled. What happened to that? If Tet can handle the ULTIMATE POWAAA without going batshit insane on everybody and everything, why can't you?

Well, the thing was, I learnt quite a while back that it was impossible to please everyone. The moment I was promoted, if someone did anything wrong, they had any and every excuse under the sun, never took the slightest amount of responsibility. I got abused for purely telling people they'd done the wrong thing, got pulled up on the slightest indiscretion - I'm not perfect, never have and never will claim to be. After a while that gets to you. I won't even begin to tell you what was going on in my life. A wall of text would be an understatement to describe what went on around the time I became a mod.
I hated being a mod for the people I had to warn, but I loved doing stuff for the site, the background stuff. Loved it. Which was why I was promoted, I don't do nearly as much of that, and much more of the things I do like.

About a 9 months ago things got better for me. I started to get ... well again but the same people were here with the same opinions of me, with the same grudges. I have tried to mend burnt bridges, but it hasn't always worked.

You'll notice, while I was a bit condescending, the post I replied to was far worse. A little mockery in the face of outright insult was in my opinion hopefully enough to correct some of those assumptions, and gain a little respect back.
I'm sure nobody appreciates a condescending tone but, sometimes it's better than either being walked all over, or insulting back.

To compare Tetiel and I would not be fair in the slightest. We lead different lives, have different views about the world, different temperaments, different stressors, and different coping mechanisms.

Lastly, I'm 22, not 30-something. Not a lot of difference because, as you say, I'm not a whiny teenager. The way I am on here is the result of years on this site, if you believe I was a better person before the tag, what is the common factor?

But fear not, this should not be a problem for much longer.

You care too much, that's your problem. Pure and simple - to be a good moderator for anything, you have to have apathy flowing in your veins in equal proportions to hemoglobin. You're taking what I'm saying as a direct indicator that the power has gone to your head, and while I am implying it may be a factor, it is certainly not the entire picture here. I cannot possibly speculate or even comprehend what has occurred in your life in these previous few years, though I wager that may be the driving force behind all of the trouble here.

That is a recurring theme I have seen in the past few days I've returned to codex - everybody is a different person, living a very different life to the ones we lived all those years ago. Expecting all of that to come rushing back with the implications of the present and future is unreasonable. Some of us don't like what somebody else has become - some of us just flat out don't care.

The site is not going to benefit from another member of staff retiring - though it can be said, perhaps it is the time for Codex to die, once and for all. Perhaps we have changed simply too much to fit on this static platform anymore - neopets is certainly far, far away from all that we have become. Perhaps we need to change scope - to shift to a platform anew.

What this platform will be is anybody's guess. All that I know is that losing another person will not be a good thing.

There is some sense in what a whiny teenager says. You were staff at a young age, and I can respect what that takes. I'm in university and I'm not even holding the same responsibility you did, albeit you had a shitton of admins watching over your back. It was funny to see you and dallas holding down Smod spots. I mean, moderating isn't exactly rocket science, but some of the backend stuff takes a bit of thinking, and I can now appreciate the maturity you guys maintained.

You make a fair point. And I agree that personal character clashes are obviously a major issue when we get down to thirty or so active members. When the site picks up membership, its all mods can do to keep up with warns and big moves. Bah.
