I need as good DVD player that will play Rewritable DVDs. I'd like for it to be HD also, but that's not extremely important. Any suggestions? (Hoping to stay under 150)

That's what I saw at Best Buy, but was hoping there are some non-retail prices floating around xD

What do you mean by HD? HD-DVD?

As for the RW-DVD, I'm quite sure you'll find that pretty much any DVD-player from Philips does the job well.

Well checking quickly cheapest dvd player is 40$ while cheapest blu-ray is 200$ tongue.gif. The choice is yours. Also keep in mind that blu-ray dvds are more expensive and if you're going to burn them you need to buy a special, expensive burner, blu-ray blank dvds cost alot more and hd movies are alot bigger file-size-wise so you'll need a great internet connection/probably pay for a rapidshare account

You're wrong about the last part, torrents still get the job done and you don't need to pay for a rapidshare account, you could for example just use a proxy for each different rar file.

True but proxies are generally slow and a pain in the ass and torrents are generally pretty slow. I guess if it's well seeded...

Seriously man what's with the change?

Yeah, I've gotten a couple HD rips from PirateBay the last few days, so I don't think they're a problem for me. (Rarely do I need a movie omgnow, so I just let the time pass tongue.gif)

I haven't ever used / seen Blu-Ray, and for that price difference I'd gladly go with a regular player xD Mind linking me to the $40 one? tongue.gif

I heavily reccomend looking around more. This was something I found to do a quick price comparison

Also

Got good ratings on Amazon.com but bad ratings on newegg. So I dunno.

Yeah they're slow if you go with the ones from china, japan etc.

Nothing really.

Anyway, I still stand by my recommendation for Philips DVD-players.

Just buy a PS3, and stream video from your computer to your HD TV =P

Where does the PS3 come into that? I have a PS3 but I have not touched it for about 4 months as there is not a single game out I want for it and Blu-Ray films are too expensive....so if I could use it for what you suggested then that would be nice tongue.gif.

It just sits there looking sexy at the moment.

Use Media Player to share your media on your network, then grant your PS3 access.
Voila.

(As far as not using your PS3... get Burnout Paradise, and the two Penny Arcade games. Also, start playing Xi on Home.)

Don't even have to do that, if you set up a web server on your computer you can download movies to your PS3 and play without streaming. tongue.gif Or if the movie files are less than 4gb you can just put them on a HD/USB drive and put them on your PS3 from there.

Because those are clearly less complicated options tongue.gif

Well they're easier if you already run a web server on your computer. tongue.gif I'd say it's still a better choice than streaming HD content and it only takes a few mins to transfer a HD film if you use a wired setup.

So you know, there was something called HD-DVD. This was a format that came out with Blu-Ray but eventually died out because of the lack of support by the media industry. Most DVD's that you find from torrent sites that say 'HD' just mean that it's a high quality rip. Also, I don't see why you don't just stream them from your computer via Apple TV or something. Rewritable DVD's are kind of pointless if you're just going to keep ripping off and putting back on again. I'd only understand purchasing a DVD player if you want to have a collection of DVD's.

Wired to Wireless for me is about 2-2.5MBps
Wireless to Wireless is around 1-1.5MBps

So wireless to wireless still can take hours to transfer a 11GB 1080p file which I transfer often.

Also Sun's idea probably wouldn't work for HD, as it's too much data flowing at once, wouldn't be able to keep up a buffer, making PS3 Media Server to be most superior overall, and also supports streaming aswell.

Also you can still use plain DVD's for HD content as long as it fits on the disc obviously....(and you have a HD-player)

I just use a patch cable straight between my laptop and the PS3, you'd have to be pretty crazy to even bother doing a wireless transfer of a HD movie... tongue.gif
