Hey I wasn't sure where to put this, so I guess I'll put it here. My irritating roommate, who I still live with, constantly uses file-sharing software and since she's a moron and has no idea how it works she leaves it on constantly, so there's always high traffic on our router. I've asked her stop, kindly asked reminded her to turn it off, yet she still leaves it on every fucking time.

I have done the obvious thing which is to shut off her internet for a while when it was annoying me, but that's not a permanent fix. I need to know how to go into my router config (i'm the admin) and change the settings so that she can't torrent anymore.

Your router will have an address you can visit through a browser to get access to the settings panel. I think it's the same your DNS/DHCP server. You can find the address by opening cmd.exe typing "ipconfig/all" and find the heading that says "DNS servers" or DHCP server or default gateway. It'll be an ip address that appears a few times. If that doesn't work just google your router and the manufacturer should have it.

From there you'll have to fuck around with the settings till you find what you're looking for, since I don't know what router you're using. Again the router website should have something to help you.

Linksys. Model: WRT120N
I'd rather not go the "fucking around" route since I'm inept when it comes to hardware. I have access to the settings panel already since I'm the one that set it up.

Is she smart enough to change the port her File-sharing Client uses? If she is, then you're going to have a hard time pinning her down.

If she ISN'T... then I'll dig up some info

She uses the Vuze client, I know that. The one that was formerly azureus.

I do that when it's really bugging me and she usually just thinks the internet is being faulty, but it's not a permanent situation at all, she'd figure it out.

Haha, she's a music/voice major, she wouldn't know.

Under access restrictions (You router should have this) You can pick ports to block.

Block all ports but 80 at times that you dont want her to run it (Can be set up as a schedule.

What you are going to do is go to 192.168.1.1 (Unless you changed the ip address, this is the default) You login by doing Username: Leave it blank. Password: Admin

Select group 2, and then add her ip address to the list, from the pc list.

Select Allow, and modify the schedule to when you dont want her to be able to do file sharing (Like during her classes), Then at the very bottom, add the port range of 444 to 999999 to the list of blocked applications, and then apply, and you should be good to go.
