http://en.wikipedia....g–Kruger_effect

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which "people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it". The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average, much higher than in actuality; by contrast the highly skilled underrate their abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. This leads to a perverse result where less competent people will rate their own ability higher than more competent people. It also explains why actual competence may weaken self-confidence because competent individuals falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. "Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

Plz to vote now on the overall incompetence of this particular forum.

I think you're ok. I consider your estimated worth to be roughly equivalent to your actual worth.

Bertrand's quote can be half/half. True but not also..I dunno..I can see both valid examples of each argument.

That's the thing these days. Everyone acts like they know everything about everything but they actually don't know shet about anything. That's the norm for the public globally now it's really sad, well at least in majority Europe, US, AUS, NZ, I haven't really encountered people from else where so I can't talk about the world probably (see I'm guilty too). Especially as they think they're learning when their watching the news.

Wouldn't voting that a majority of this forum experiences it indicate, generally, that you yourself experience it?

    You get a brownie point.

If you think you are better than everyone else, there are a few possibilities.

One of them is that you're better than everyone else.

Another is that you have a bit of the Dunning-Kruger effect yourself.

Another is that you're an egomaniacal prick.

Maybe my language pack got switched to Chinese somehow and when I tried to turn it off my font got all weird. When I typed it the spacing was normal on Firefox, but I looked back on chrome and I have no clue how it got spaced like that.

    Anyhow back to the topic.

This Dunning Kruger effect seems to be similar to the 2/3 of the average game in Game Theory. The way I understand their conclusion is that smarter/more competent players are assuming perfect rationality when in reality perfect rationality does not exist and therefore the smarter/more competent player loses confidence in his or her competency creating the paradox that is the Dunning Kruger effect.

    Ok heres your problem.

My post was sarcastic and "fun" as you have described it.

Your post in response to mine was clearly lacking humor and wit.

Your inability to respond with something more witty has apparently caused you to react defensively.

Your defensive reaction is unwarranted, not "fun", and lacking of humor and wit.

My responses do not have to be witty or funny to be of a casual and fun nature.

Also, I would not have reacted defensively if not for you provoking me.

I am sorry but I will not underrate myself. It would however be true to say that I have triggered the effect in a couple people. haha

Can it not be said that you first provoked my by quoting my statement and then adding your own nonsense? Your assuming that I was the provoker and not the provoked. Think about it...

Okay lets get one thing straight.

I never made a claim to my or anyone else's competency or ability.

What I said may or may not have been funny or humorous depending on your SENSE of humor. When you attempt to change what I said about MENSA being first on Google to third it makes no difference where MENSA shows up on google, so why first? why third? You posted either to a) increase your post count b) try to be funny by commenting on what i said or c) a shallow attempt to snicker at my post.

I just don't understand why you won't quit...

I posted something contributing to the thread. You essentially cloned my post then changed part of it. I told you its spam and you then began an argument with personal(and ineffective) insults.
