So i go to get a blood test today right, and instead of some experienced blood taking professional, i basically get the "work experience kid". I now have numerous needle stabs in my arm because the moron missed the vein a good 5 times. Seriously, ive met smarter sandwiches.
I now can't wear short sleeved shirts, as my workmates and boss are seriously considering the idea of me being some sort of drug addict <_<

Oh man that's ridiculous. How can they allow this stupid stuff? They take so much of our money.

How do you expect medical students to learn O_o

You can't practise blood tests on a cadaver; they don't have any blood.

Yeh but an average rate of $25 for a moron instead of a licensed professional to stick a needle in your veins and miss five times O_o. They can go learn at a blood donation center I'm sure the charitable people won't mind helping a new student learn since they get a delicious cookie out of it :)

You're paying for the testing technology, not good service.

Phlebotomists can't only train in donation centers, as those places only take blood from healthy adults.

They do. But it's not sufficient practise.

Oh god that is awful. Seriously. Did they ask if it was okay for the trainee to do it? I understand that people need to train, but I also understand that I'd have fled after they got it wrong the first time.

This reminds of when some student or w/e took my blood (keep in mind this was the first time someone had done this in years). She thought I had diabetes or something (which worried me for a while) because she could hardly draw any blood at all, and it really freaking hurt when she kepy jabbing the needle in and kinda moving it around. I still flinch when I think back on it, ow. xD

I later learned that she was just really, really bad at it. All nurses who have taken my blood have problems, but they always manage to fill a few viles after a couple attempts and it really doesn't hurt that much when they do it.

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh* Did they make you wait a really long time? Was it too cold in the office? Did the secretary give you a funny look? Don't you know when you complain about someone's work performance, you're also supposed to elaborate on how inconvienent everything was?

Or you could just tell them some retard stabbed you with a needle for a blood test. *kanyeshrug*

I'm a med student and this is the exact reason I would never go to a university hospital for routine procedures. Despite med school being difficult to get into there are alot of people who are very book smart, but not very capable technically. However, med students are not even close to being as incompetent and phlebotomists who just finished their 2month long textbook course on blood drawing and need to practice in a hospital. Those people are TERRIBLE.

They do. I love jabbing people but I'm not really cool with people trying to jab me :p. I'm good at doing it and it takes me one try but there's this girl in my class that took 3 jabs and can't get any blood. I'm paranoid of her now O_o. The sad thing is a lot of people in medical field are really really smart but they can't do much when it comes to hands on and they're paranoid of doing anything :/ Makes me wonder sometimes why they're in the field.

I agree with Sweeney; they have to learn somehow. That being said, after the second or third botched attempt, you can always ask them to get someone else.

That must hurt a lot. I would of been too scared to allow someone attempt to take blood from me more than three times. Thankfully, that situation never happened since I'm fairly thin and my veins are easily visible at my elbow and my wrist.

I'll probably be one of those incompetent, smart future med students :whistling:

Why would anyone do that when they can just suffer and later complain about what a retard someone is? The patient never holds any responsibility in their healthcare. It's ALWAYS the fault of the person helping them.

Nevermind me, I'm just a disgruntled, incompetent pill counter. :p
