This is a pretty obvious question, but how are blind children going to play? Will everything be audio? And graphics will mainly be for the parents benefit?
(kind of long explanation)
so it is based off of penguin slide
in this game you move back and forth(right to left)/sliding across the iceberg collecting fish
all i have done is make the game accessible to blind children
the graphics are there because companies like Nintendo aren't going to make a game just for blind kids
however, the things that i have added to the game make it more fun for everyone but allow blind children to play
so! the player hops on the Wii Balance board and as their weight shifts from right to left the penguin shifts right to left
then a fish will pop up randomly on the screen
if it pops up in the iceberg it makes a particular sounds (right now it makes a lame 'clap' sound)
and depending upon the position of the penguin/the player the sound will register far left, left, middle, etc - thus the player can get an idea of where the fish is and all they have to do is move over it to collect it
also the fish can be in the air
in order to collect these fish (which are making a lame 'woosh' sound ;p) you have to move toward the fish but stand on your tippy toes to get it (like jumping in the air)
**the tippy toes function is also in there as a part of a physical therapy application ((my honors thesis for next year will be about applying wii games to physical therapy rehabilitation)) as blind children no only have a problem with balance but generally do not do certain movements (like tippy toes)
so on the beginners level the player cannot fall off the iceberg and the fish stay on the screen until you collect them
on the intermediate level the fish disappear and you can hit the bumpers (they are skis because i couldn't think of anything else) three times before they disappear and then you can fall off
(**) also the player will have two wii motes in their hands and as they come close to the edges the wiimote will vibrate depending upon which edge they are too close to (thus the children can get a better orientation)
then for the hard level there are no bumpers and you have much less time to catch the fish
and that's it
