okay okay:
let stock 1 = x and stock 2 = y
we have $15000 to spend so:x + y = 15000, rearrange this until we get:
now, she wants to allocate her money so that:
x = 15000 - y0.08*x + 0.11*y = 1500
to figure this out, substitute in what we got for x0.08*x + 0.11*y = 1500
so to see if we have the right answer, just substitute them in:
0.08(15000 - y) + 0.11y = 1500
1200 - 0.08 +0.11y = 1500
0.03y = 300
y = 10000 and x = 5000(stock 1)*8% + (stock 2)*11% has to be equal to $1500
she would have to invest $5000 in the first stock (the one that pays 8%) and $10000 in the second stock (the one that pays 11%)
$5000*0.08 + 10000*0.11
$400 + $1100
$1500 which is equal to the right hand side
thanks i finally understand this one

0.8(15000 - y) + 1.1y = 15000
12000 - 0.8y + 1.1y = 15000
0.3y = 3000
y = 3000/0.3 = 10000
we know that:
x = 15000 - y
sub in y = 1000
x = 5000
i think you may have gotten your order wrong remember BODMAS.
hmm i knew something was wrong but i guessed i missed a zero but then the question asks how i would apportion so that the 15k between the bond and stock would be 10%?
WAIT WAIT WAIT lol i saw that everyone put 0.8 where did everyone get that from? its .08 for 8 percent not .8 so now im confused again lol
