I have heard that they skipped 9 because there was a lot of code that checked "if windows_version.startswith("windows 9")" for windows 95/98, and it caused a lot of stuff to break.

Synth7 the effects it would have on the neo"economy" are a double edged sword. Items becoming cheaper would actually make the site a lot more fun, usually new players either quit or cheat because the site sucks and everything is too unobtainable. If goals become more obtainable then the user count might go up by a LOT and keep the site alive and pleasant. ;) If neopets had a large increase in players I'm sure neocodex would benefit too. Correct me if I am wrong.
