another thing to note is that the NFTs were displaying examples that were generated from fan-made neopets dress-up websites that weren't even theres. So basically screaming low effort cash grab

If you look at the numbers in their presentation Neo is still profitable, although not by a lot. Rebuilding the site is definitely not going to bring any ROI but the neopets IP itself is extremely valuable, much more valuable than a website stuck in the 2000's with spaghetti code. They could use the IP to create an addicting mobile game or partner with, idk, something like Roblox. Simplicity and nostalgia are a big key to revitalizing Neopets, we see how successful pokemon unite is because of the pokemon IP, not its unbalanced gameplay and shoddy mechanics. the neopets IP will continue to retain value unless tanked (eg. game of thrones season 8, which in this case seems to be the NFTs). It's not exactly a hail mary, it's a cash grab plain and simple, and with no reward to it. at least in mobile games you can pay to win and gamble, which makes your brain go yes yes please give me more. paying hundreds of dollars for a crappy stolen JPG is just a scam

like all their mobile games have been shut down almost immediately after launch, with no long term support so there is no consumer faith. if they come out with a MOBA tomorrow, nobody's going to spend on it because they know it's going to be iced in like a year. they need to wipe the slate clean and partner with a company that knows what they're doing. if anyone knows about taking money from kids/adults and making them smile while doing so, it's definitely nintendo. 

nostalgia brought me back, i love to go down memory lane looking at my pets and looking at old parts of the site that remind me of the 2000s
