So the question is: how do you feel about open showers? Are you comfortable with it? Do you hate it but put up with it? Do you avoid it all together?

I just started using the showers at my gym about 2 weeks ago. I purposely do my workout early in the morning (9:30-10:30) just so I get the showers to myself. I don't think I could go in there with other naked dudes around. And the setup it kinda weird too; you gotta take your towel off before you enter but the sensors only respond to the touch of fabric. O_o

If you're self conscious it's going to be a problem, but other than that, it's just a shower. I think it's kind of fun xD

Depends on how public they are

Public showers are always awkward but like school showers with a couple embarrassed teens avoiding eye contact are far more preferable to a gym shower with old hairy naked creepers :p

I try to avoid them altogether and have been largely successful in doing so

You could just wear something to keep your privates, private?

Allot of women wear a bikini in the showers.

    I feel way too uncomfortable gettin' naked around other people. I can barely do it with just my girlfriend. >>;

When I used to work out at the YMCA, I was just fine with the open showers. It really wasn't a big deal, just keep your eyes at or above shoulder level

Here at school, we don't really have open showers; every shower is a stall, both at the gym and at the dorms.

Try not to think too much about it, and if you're really that uncomfortable with it, either put it off until you get back home, find your time where it's fairly empty (like what you're doing), or have some swim trunks in your locker.

Edit: Option four involves copious amounts of alcohol.

Don't get me started on the old naked dudes. My friend and I tried to use the sauna first thing I see when I open the door, is an old asian guy seated cross legged, with a really really hairy groin and a little pink blur that I assume was his penis. And the worst part is, him and his naked old friends are just casually conversing with one another.

I'm not really opposed to the nakedness of public showers, but more the cleanliness. I've had the misfortune of getting athletes foot from using the showers at the gym.

Now I wear flip-flops and they've changed to private stalls, not sure if that addresses the cleanliness bit, but the naked is of no concern.

It was a dry sauna. =P

They take a little bit to get used to... I used to be terrified when I was younger of public showers... just seemed awful. I've since grown very happy with my body and personal image and it's really not that big of a deal any more... I mean, it's still kinda uncomfortable depending on if it's old creepy fat men or people your own age... But generally, I realize that they don't want to see me nude any more than I them... and if they do... I guess I'll just take it as a compliment. :p

Thank you for one of the few topics I've seen in the past week or two that was remotely thought provoking and/or interesting. :)

Lol, I often get ideas for nice discussable/debatable topics but I rarely get the time to post them =/

The psychological effects of public nudity and the sociological responses being openly discussed are indeed interesting. ;)

I missed that part of the topic then... I am pretty sure we are just talking about guys not liking being around naked guys.

I mostly just don't like being naked, regardless of who's around. And I love to see naked guys. And girls. And others. ;)

    Thats because you have issues.

But we are not talking about any psychological or sociological things in this topic. :|

    Just

A)I dont like being naked (Around guys or not)
B)I dont like being around naked guys
    C)I like naked guys
    D)Showers are unclean

No doubt it gives insight into the psychological implications brought about by the ubiquitous condemnations of the 'everyman's body' by mass media with most likely the sole intention of instilling unnatural insecurities into the population's mindset and then profiting from it by selling unnecessary products to fix an artificial problem

Or they are afraid of people seeing their tiny penis?

    Seems more reasonable.

Well you certainly don't want an erect penis around other naked dudes. That might send the wrong message.

I believe that was implied by my post

Or, alternatively that was what I originally wanted to convey but my pretentious wording got the better of me and ending up making my post incoherent, but fancy sounding
