Okay so I did a quick search and found no sibling discussion thread (1 about brothers, 1 about younger siblings, and one closed poll) so I wanna start one:

So as you may or may not know, my sister and I are super close. I tell her everything, we hang out for lunch, we talk about personal problems, bla bla bla

This is why I find it so weird when my friends aren't close with their siblings; how can you NOT be? Assuming you guys didn't have a huge fight over something, the fact that you spend so much time in the same household and during family events; shouldn't that bond you? Shouldn't it just become almost automatic? Same with family. My family is soooo tight knit that I forget some peoples' aren't, which again I find weird. Although that part could be more of an Asian thing... either way

Do you and your siblings/family get along? Are you guys super close in general? If not, why not? One of my friends simply isn't close with his sister because "they don't have anything in common". still :/ you've lived with her your whole life. how do you not find SOMETHING to talk about.

Oh, and the "lar-lee-lar-lar-lar" is what my sister sometimes says. Since we're basically talking about her.

I get along with my immediate family quite well. I only have one brother, and he is in that awkward stage where he doesn't want to hang out with his older sister *sniff*. I love my parents more than anything.

After immediate family it starts to get kind of complicated. My dad has 11 siblings, which we only have contact/get along with 4 of them. There was a big fight and it split that whole side of the family down the middle.
My mother has 7 siblings and we get on great with all of them. I especially love my granny on my mums side, she is one of my best friends. My mums brother died recently, since then that whole side of the family has really tightened up and any tiffs that were going on have been forgotten about.

haha oh puberty. My sister and I did NOT get along before the age of 13 xD If I have a daughter, I will not let her speak from ages 11-16

We're all pretty close on my mom's side. 2 aunts and 2 uncles live in teh city and we see them very often. After that: they live in Hong Kong and we visit them every few years. I really think it might be an Asian thing O.o

I have a half brother who is about 5 years older than me. I've never lived with him and had very little contact with him until about 5 years ago. I essentially consider myself an only child. As a child, I lived as one. I haven't had a sibling until I was fast approaching adult life. My dad didn't even know he existed until well after I was born and he's had his stepfather for as long as he can remember so we don't even really share that family tie. *Shrugs*

We're pretty close now I suppose, especially considering how much of our lives we haven't really been like siblings. The Boy and I tend to spend Christmas with him, his wife and their kids and I try to drive down and see them every month or 2. We occasionally meet for lunch on the rare days that he actually manages to leave the office.

We live very different lives and there isn't that much common ground. He has a career in the City and a proper family life that he commutes between where as I just float around London, not really doing much. Basically, he's a grown up and I'm not. :p

Aside from him, I have no other family so I suppose I have to appreciate him a little more than perhaps I would otherwise.

That's fair though; it's not like you grew up for years and years and were forced on family vacations, school, and what not.

I don't think that's weird at all. I wish I were that close with my brother. I'm not even that close with any of my cousins, bar one but she lives in England so I hardly see her :c

I'm not that close with my cousins; I guess in comparison to some people we are, but no where as close as with my sister

When I'm sad my sister and I crawl in the same bed and just talk :p That could be a little weird, but meh.

Thankfully. He irritates me enough as it is.

He's old enough that I wouldn't have been in school with him anyway. We're far enough apart that we've always been at very different stages of our lives, he was starting university when I first really remember meeting him and I was only in my 2nd year at secondary school.

I've got a friend who may as well be a brother though. :p Lived with us for a bit when we were younger and I've known him since I was 4.

yeah, an age gap really is a big factor though. My friends are always only 1-2 years apart; traditional nuclear family. I always forget there are exceptions O.o

haha well if anyone looked in we'd be like "WHO ARE YOU?" We used to do that with our parents (all four of us) so I guess it just sorta transitioned to just us 2 when we got older.

it's not like we're spooning or anything lmao. We're just lying there, looking at the ceiling.

I'm an only child and it's pretty sweet. I don't know a lot of siblings that really get along well. I think age difference has a lot to do with it. My boyfriend's brother and sister are both over ten years older than him and we get along with them pretty well. They, on the other hand, hated each other growing up. If kids are too close in age there's a lot of competition and jealousy, I guess. When I was younger I used to want a little brother or sister but it would probably be 100% weird if my mom popped one out now that I'm 20. I could be that baby's mom. :/

    I misspelled stupid. :whistling: Whoops

my friend said "I don't like my sister, because she has periods. It's gross." and I'm like "is she really rude during then or something?" "No, it's just gross!" xD

well there's also a mix of age difference, gedner, and number of children I guess. The only way our relationship would be better is probably if I were older; since girls' brains develop faster. So when she was 14, she was emotionally 16 while I was stuck as 11

haha well I AM her best friend *cough*

I'm not so open about my own personal things... she's open about it to the rest of the family too though. It's not uncommon to find pads on the bathroom sink countertop. It doesn't even phase me anymore
