After documenting dozens of teen mothers’ heart-wrenching stories via its hit 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom series, MTV will tackle the sensitive issue of abortion with a separate special called 'No Easy Decision'.

The special, airing Dec. 28 at 11:30 p.m., will follow one former 16 and Pregnant subject, Markai, as she wrestles with the decision after becoming pregnant for a second time.

Dr. Drew Pinsky will also talk with young women who, like 27 percent of teens who end up with unplanned pregnancies, have chosen to end them. MTV sources say the documentary will tackle all sides of the issue, including the importance of contraception and the devastating effects of facing such a decision.

What do you think about this special? They're also airing the show Dec 28 at 11:30 pm, obviously to keep younger teens from being able to see it. 16 and pregnant is aired around 8 or 9? I'm not sure. I think it's really dumb that they're airing it so late. What do you think about the timeslot this show was given?

I think it's great that they're finally tackling the topic of abortion, but at the same time I'm insanely worried about Markai and her family and how this will effect them. We all know some batshit insane people are going to rip her to shreds and send death threads because of this. :(

She should know what she is getting into by going on national television for this. Therefore, I don't feel bad.
And if she doesn't know what she is getting into, then she is a moron. Therefore, I still don't feel bad.

I'm sure she knows what she's getting into, but that doesn't stop me from being worried about her. I think she's really brave for going on television, and no one deserve death threats just for speaking out for young women in between a rock and a hard place.

Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid..MTV..Go back to 15 years ago when you actually played music...This 16 and mother crap, 16 and birthday crap is just idiotic. And yet millions of people watch this and the Jersey Shore....Yea this shit happens to teenagers, but MTV just makes it seem worse than it is or rather worse just for ratings.

This is the reason why abortion should be allowed, because stupid idiots who don't know how to have safe sex should not procreate and further put their stupid genes out there. I mean she got pregnant the first time and now she did it again? Seriously, have these people learned nothing? Use a damn condom...sheesh.

This was the same mom who had a fist fight with her boyfriend while her baby was alone in the car.
There aren't enough side-eye gifs in the world.
But still, I just really hope they portray this in a neutral un-biased way. But then again, it's MTV and they can't do anything right.

You're forgetting how much money she is going to make from this.
Regardless of what she says, or the sincerity you feel from her when you watch the show, the money is a huge factor in her going on TV.

Yes, she is helping people, but I really doubt that is the reason she is doing it.

I never said the reason she was doing it was to help people., but she is raising awareness on a topic that is either ignored or demonized in American society. Whatever they're paying her seriously will not be enough for the amount of abuse she's going to get. Catelynne and Tyler got shit for giving their baby up for adoption, it just pisses me off that women aren't allowed to talk about it for the fear that some batshit insane person will try to kill them.

IMO there is a huge difference between "talking about it" and "publicizing it for attention."

Talking about it may include going to a family member or friend. If neither of those will be understanding, there are places women can go to talk about it.
Publicizing it for attention includes getting on a national television show, being paid probably somewhere in 5 figures, and saying you are doing it to raise awareness.

Raising awareness in a positive way is a great thing. However, raising awareness this way might not be.
Although, 16 and pregnant did get credit recently for a declining level of teen pregnancies in the US. Hopefully, this show will have some similar positive effect.

    You're quite angry :(

I personally think that raising awareness is a great thing - and if you really want music, just get on youtube. -___-
You make it seem like only bumbling idiots who don't anything and are dysfunctional are the only ones who do not practice safe sex. When you're in the moment, things change. You're not always thinking about making the best choices for the future - you're just concerned with the now. You're not always thinking ahead a couple of months or a couple of years to see what consequences your actions will bring.

People make mistakes, get over it. What is important is that they can learn from those mistakes and try to fix it as best they can.
Everybody deserves a second try. Even a third try, it's not like these kids ask to get their life screwed over.

I don't see this as publicizing it for attention. 16 and pregnant has covered having the baby, and giving the baby up for adoption, so why not cover abortion as well? It's called 16 and pregnant, not 16 and having a baby. And I've watched the show, whenever they bring up abortion it's usually the girl talking to one of her dipshit friends and the girl going "no I would never get an abortion." The show has been extremely one-sided on the issue. And the amount of money that the girls get paid is undisclosed but I've heard figures around $5,000-$6000 for an episode. She never said she was doing it for awareness, I said that this show creates awareness on a subject that gets ignored. And there's going to be other girls who've had abortions on the show talking about their decision.

The way they portray abortion on American television is absolutely ridiculous. Teennick didn't air the episode of Degrassi where a girl has an abortion for 3 years just because she didn't show any remorse for having the abortion. And even when they did air it they edited the hell out of it. 16 and pregnant gets 13 or something hour long shows about girls who have their babies and it's played during a primetime slot. Then there's this one 30 minute show on abortion at 11:30 at night on a work day. They obviously don't want this show to get that much attention.

Not that angry, just quite saddened and a bit angry by the idiocy of the world...And don't bring up Youtube, that place is a joke now with all the copyright stuff going on.

I am not saying that people don't make mistakes, but this retard made the same mistake, or rather not a mistake since shes on tv. Obviously she didn't learn from her mistake. And why should they deserve another opportunity. These idiots are forcing others to pay for their mistake. Do you see these people working? No, its most likely up to the state and taxpayers in the state to pay for this crap. Kids are idiots these days and don't even think.

I am not saying that kids who make mistakes should be ostracized and whatnot, but at least learn from your mistakes. Raising awarness about what? Pregnancy and Abortion? You know what kids learn about this in the 5th grade and the 7th grade..Way before MTV comes on to 16 year olds...So they should already know.

To each his own. I see it at publicizing it for attention just as I see 16 and pregnant publicizing it for attention.

I honestly am totally biased because I consider the girls on these television shows to be idiotic. Condoms are cheap and I very highly doubt any of the girls on the show are pregnant because of a broken condom.

Not all kids learn tbh. My first year of university I had to explain to a 22 year old how birth control works. Not everyone gets sex education. Especially if they come from states in the south where most of the sex education is abstinence only which is rooted in religion and heterocentric.

When Bush was in office he gave government grants to states that taught abstinence only education, so a lot of teenagers didn't get the right sex education. But this girl was just dumb because her mom told them about contraception and taught them how to put on condoms. But a lot of parents don't do that, they just tell the kids "don't do it and you won't get pregnant". I found out there's a city in Virginia where a minor can't even buy a pregnancy test. There's cities and towns where pharmacists will refuse to sell minors condoms. I'm not saying there's no such thing as teenagers who are stupid and engage in unprotected sex, I have before and I was just lucky enough to not get pregnant. But at the same time you have to realize that sex education in this country is fucking stupid.

When I was in middle school this was my sex education. The girls were given flowers, and we had to pull the petals off the flowers. And the lady told us "Having sex is like letting guys pull the petals off your flower, by losing your virginity you're no longer a pretty flower."

To each his own. I see it at publicizing it for attention just as I see 16 and pregnant publicizing it for attention.

Most of the girls on the show didn't use protection. But one girl got pregnant while she was on birth control because her doctor didn't tell her that antibiotics negated her pill.

I just don't think there is anything that justifies not knowing about birth control and the possible consequences of unprotected sex.
I've gone to private Catholic schools my entire life, and they didn't teach sex ed either. They probably legally cannot because the church speaks out against contraception.
That being said, they still taught me biology and that is enough to understand how having a child works.

Not her fault, I can see how that would happen. In that case I respect her because she probably did want other girls to know about the possibilities even when you are on the pill.

I'm sure every teenager knows how having a child works, but at the same time you need to realize that if you don't know anything about birth control, and you don't know anything about safe sex, it's very easy to get misinformed. If a person gets abstinence only education, they don't learn about birth control, so where do they get information? From their dumb ass friends. This one person seriously fucking told me that "You can't get HIV from gay sex if you're the top, and if you pee afterward because pee kills bacteria", or my personal favorite "You can't get pregnant if the guy pulls out." Teenagers are young, they're naive, and if they're not getting the information from where they need to get it (their parents and school) they're going to get it elsewhere.

This past semester I did a huge research project on abstinence only education and how it effects teens. It's really sad. It doesn't stop them from having sex, it just makes them less likely to use protection because in abstinence only education they're only told about the failure rates of birth control. If you're told over and over again "condoms don't work, birth control doesn't work, nothing works" then what's the difference between using protection and just taking your chances?

Well, I respect your research and agree with it. Abstinence only education is ridiculous.
I have never dealt with anyone as stupid as you have. I still believe that people who don't use condoms are utter morons and are to be blamed.

I just looked up some facts and statistics about contraceptive use, sexual education, etc and really only see us throwing these facts at each other if any are brought up. In reality, we are both going to stay resolute in our opinions and we have complete strayed from the original point.

It's awesome that the abortion topic is finally coming out of the closet onto mainstream TV, instead of being hidden behind curtains as 'sensitive topics'. Teens need to see what happens when you get pregnant and why it's a hard choice, instead of lolsexyay. It's never easy being a single mom, and I grew up watching my mom brought me up singlehandedly. There's never enough hands to go around. Never mind that you're the only one feeding the house, you have to consider things like a) Who takes care of your kid when you're away? and b) would whoever you leave your kid with treat them well? along with a million other concerns.

Very few places allow you to bring your kids to work (Here, definitely. Not sure about Europe and America.) and they end up left at nannies. And of course, we're no stranger to news of abusive nannies and/or nannies who don't do their job well. I.e, feeding your kid instant noodle three meals a day and shit like that. By the time you deduct nanny costs out of your salaries, you'll be left with eating bread and butter and social benefits. 'Oh we'll pull through." isn't understanding that pulling through doesn't mean it'll be easy or good on the kid.

    I dont get it
Are abortions supposed to be a big deal, or something?

I mean, I wouldn't hesitate to kill a fetus that was leeching off of my body. Why is deciding to abort such a hard choice? It's like being sad when a fish dies in the bowl and you have to flush it down the toilet. I really don't understand why there is so much drama in the first place.

ALSO, people still watch MTV? All the good shit is at Comedy Central.. in case you guys haven't noticed.

I really hope there's a girl on the show who gets an abortion and is happy with it. I hate the way the media demonizes women who have abortions and don't feel "OMG IT WAS THE HARDEST DECISION OF MY LIFE" about it. It's so fucking annoying.
