I'm pretty sure the whole Zombie fad has something to play with this. If there wasn't such a fascination these days it would just be put off as a crazy dude on bath salts.

Lol xD so true

A human can survive about a month without food. Please revise your theory.

Survival =/= Health (in the sense of body's/muscle's)
Try fasting for a few of days no food whatsoever, eventually you'll barely be capable of walking; not in a sense of "I can't do it" but in a sense of you'll tire easily.

Yeah, but zombies are supposed to be oblivious to pain, right, or any other such feelings?

Who says zombies have to be healthy? Who says they are built for long-term survival?

And to respond to your whole "humans can't tear human flesh" claim, I have written you a short story, which should not be read by people who don't think that people can eat people or don't want to get grossed out or whatever:

    Spoiler

You are putting arbitrary boundaries on the ability of the human body. Sure it's probably not like cutting up a fucking fillet with a steak knife but I think it's a bit silly to say that a human couldn't eat another human with no tools other than their own body.

We're not talking about pain we are talking about a body's mechanism, your body will grow lazy and weak. Assuming that zombies do act out of instinct they wouldn't move, their bodies would know that they are in starvation mode and would want to save as much energy as possible. Not to mention that another instinct for survival would be killing others of the same kind to obtain your food.

That's a very good story I must admit, however I fail to see how it proves that humans can tear through flesh. Try it yourself, with ham it's more similar to human flesh, no marinating, no tenderizing, nothing, see if you can bite through it.

Yes, but the mind could easily override the body if the mind doesn't register hunger and lethargy.
If they resort to cannabalism, then one wouldn't need to worry about the scarce resources of 50:1 ratio.

Without the body a mind can not act, and the body has no magical source to fuel it. If not food (stored possibly, but that will run off too) then I do not see how a body could be able to move, though movement is a possibility however strength is not. And we are talking about zombies able to CHEW through flesh which is no easy task, let alone chase and grab the living.
If they do resort to cannibalism then they kill each other off meaning they'd die off fast, the ratio will eventually decrease and this will be to the living's favor.

Yung wouldn't stand still. I think the hardest part of proving your theory is a lot of people won't just stand there and let people eat them.

Anyway, since all of the zombie experts are here, I really need to know: Can zombies swim?

He tore the skin but not the flesh, the flesh is much harder to tear through. Not to mention that there are many everyday acids which can break the bonds between the connective tissues, vinegar and lemon juice included, saliva however is not.

How do you explain cannibalism to prevent starvation in situations that they couldn't cook the flesh?

We're not talking about pain we are talking about a body's mechanism, your body will grow lazy and weak. You are assuming that they are normal humans.... which they are not. Their instincts are now to bite and eat humans and not zombies. The zombie virus affects the brain as well as the body, changing your mentality.

How do you explain the people who face near starvation at concentration camps and yet worked every single day for years? The human body has a remarkable capacity to remain alive without that much food. They also have an increased capacity to push on when they are searching for food, which zombies will be doing. The idea that humans will be able to survive (Without food, mind you) longer then the zombie population is just silly.

BUT. Lets assume you are right. They eliminate just 90% of the population. What are the chances that the human race would even survive? Do you know how to survive without technology? Do you know how ot rebuild the human population and survive in the wild?

I'm not sure what your argument even is. So what if they will starve and die off? They will die off entirely because of lack of shit to eat, which means lack of a human population. So a few humans survived, how long will the be able to last, starting over 100% without any knowledge of how to survive?

Yung wouldn't stand still. I think the hardest part of proving your theory is a lot of people won't just stand there and let people eat them.

If they are living zombies (AKA 28 weeks) then yes, they can still swim.

If they are living dead, then they can float, but that is it.

Just to clarify the first 3 pages of argument. The reason Zombies are fiction and string theory is a theory

Is because a theory is a currently true explanatory hypothesis to fill in a gap that we know exists.

Fiction is an often arbitrary hypothesis regardless of truth.

Zombies fall under the Fiction category as there is no gap to fill, and it is not currently true.

String theory is currently true, we have no evidence to disprove it, and therefore it is still a theory.

Zombies are not on the cards as a question, with heaps of evidence to prove they do not currently exist.

(Apart from the Parasite, etc. Which by Argue's strange definition doesn't count)

Argue, you've never made me face palm so hard before.

I'm sorry but I fail to see proof for your first statement. However I'll assume that your theory is correct and that zombies are capable of all of that, there are millions of ways a virus could alter a brain having it changing in such a way is a very slim chance.

Our ancestors have survived without technology just fine, technology is a necessity yet not an essential. It will be hard to cope, true, yet not impossible.

However we both talk theory, there is nothing that can prove either expect perhaps time; so let time be the judge.

Our ancestors were born without computers to look up survival tactics on, cars to get them places, cell phones to talk to people, and guns to shoot things with. We were not. I think the learning curve alone will kill off a big chunk of the people who are not zombiefied.

Also for all this talk of theories I still haven't seen anyone disprove that a human could tear up another human. I don't understand why you are so adamantly opposed to the idea. Also, what says that zombies can't use tools anyway. Didn't the zombies in I Am Legend use tools and create traps?

There's also Bub in Day of the Dead who, if I recall correctly, actually learned how to fire a gun.

Depends entirely on the level of decomposition.

Besides which, the fact that they're moving means that that rule doesn't apply anyway.

Actually I believe they initially sink then float after gases build up during decomposition and then they would sink again.

Unless you have a different definition of a dead body, of course.

    Occasionally they go pop too~

That would be before the 2nd sinking phase. :p I'm not sure how the physics would work for them actually popping though, I would have thought it would be like a rather slow period of flatulence.

Do you honestly live under a rock?

    http://en.wikipedia....lism#Starvation

I'll let Wikipedia handle this for me.

There is a large step from moving forward in technology, to moving backwards in technology. 99% of the world does not know how to make a fire without a lighter. Does not know how to preserve food without a freezer. Does not know how to make shelter. Does not know which berries are poisonous and which are not. We are utterly reliant on technology for absolutely everything that we do. With over 97% of the human population eliminated, what are the chances that people that know how to do these things, and females capable of reproducing (Without ANY of the medical advanced we have in today's age). Is it possible? Perhaps. But its also very unlikely.
