Here a FUPA is a fat upper pubic area..

Napi, you're far from fat :p

Thank you!

When you shove your finger in that spot, you can feel the bone, but it's definitely not my squishiest area. I just thought FUPA was a better explanation than 'the northern section of my cooter' or something.

Well the point of Birth Control is to stop you from getting pregnant when you do have unprotected sex (albeit the chances are still there just less likely). I suffer from extremely sickening cramps so I was put on BC when I was younger to help regulate and when I got older and sexually active I opted to get a shot every 3 months and not get a period at all.

I guess it's a personal choice and not having a period didn't bother me.

That's fair. Its definitely a person choice, I guess with the low failure rate, there's very little to be paranoid about. I'm on the pill and I'll admit I do love having the lighter periods!

My periods seem to have gotten a lot lighter in the past year or so. However, I have not been eating raw liver.

    lol the pelvic thrust action.

Well the point of Birth Control is to stop you from getting pregnant when you do have unprotected sex

Not always, I take it to regulate my periods. I can go nearly a year without a period and then bleed for 3 months.

When you have PCOS it's not about trying to not get pregnant (most people with PCOS have fertility issues - myself included) it's about trying to put a stop to the other stupid shit that goes with it such as

    • Cystic acne
    • Missing periods
    • Heavy and excessive periods
    • Hirsutism
    • Weight issues
    • Mood swings
    • Hair loss

I just stopped my BC because the side effects are beyond a joke

    • Chest pains,
    • Shortness of breath,
    • Pain radiating from chest to jaw and teeth,
    • Worsening acne,
    • Darkening patches of skin in my armpits, back of neck similar to this, between my boobs
    • Fluctuating weight
    • that's discounting the usual shit of backache and severe cramps

So no, it's not just about stopping pregnancy.

In other news I'm also cranky because the dam broke on Valentine's day and I didn't get laid. Fucking periods.

My sister was also prescribed BC for her PCOS, and I think it may have helped her for a while, but she had to stop taking it because she has another medical condition. Since she had four refills left when the doctor ordered her to stop taking it, I figured I'd take advantage of four months of free BC without having to get my own prescription. I'd taken birth control (Yaz and Lo Loestrin) in the past with only minor side effects, so I was kind of surprised when I experienced extreme nausea and breast tenderness for the entire duration of those four months. I don't even remember what it was called because it had some long generic name, but it was awful.

I've been wanting to try another method of birth control for years (like the shot or copper implant) because of the increased risk of blood clots. :( Scary stuff.

However, the current pill I'm on now has very few side effects for me so.. weighing my options, BC is best at the moment. There's no way to know if those other methods would be worse for me.

Yeah mine worked for the first 6 months just fine, things were improving but then I started getting what I thought was severe heartburn. This became an almost daily thing until it started hurting my jaw and teeth. I looked up the side effects of my BC (Microgestin FE 1/20) and realized that everything that's been going wrong with me is probably due to that. The problem I've had is it took my boss from October until the 1st of Feb to submit my insurance paperwork. I only just got insurance so now I can see the Dr without it costing me $200 for some chick to hear my story and do the yearly look at my snu.

I should have just come off it sooner but in all honesty it didn't click until I thought to look up the side effects. I've never had a BC make me feel so bad. I tried Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo before this one and it made me feel shit, but I'd rather deal with the dizziness, headaches, cramping, and 2 week periods over all this other shit.

I also looked up what it's doing to my skin, the only cure for the embarrassing skin patches is Metformin. I can't wear my hair up anymore, can't wear anything with my cleavage showing, and it's starting to develop in my inner-elbows. I'm just a little bit more than miserable lately (I'm sure people here have noticed >_>) I cry at everything, I also want to punch and scream when even the smallest thing goes wrong. I'm so depressed I've thought about stupid shit.

I just need to get out of this rut :(

Yeah, you have to be kind of careful. There's tons of different BC's that are different combos of hormones. It really isn't a case of one size fits all. And what works for you this year might not be right for you next year. I've switched pills about 5 times in the past 11 years. And then when we get older we have to switch from BC to THYROID or ESTROGEN medications, and there's a fuckton of those too, and you never know what works right until you try them.

Holy shit @ Sarah. I didn't know BC could cause the skin to do that. If you don't mind my asking, what BC were you on?

EDIT: Wow, you've been taking the same BC as me. *laughs nervously* It works perfect for me.

Hah! And to think, congressmen wanted to deny us access to healthcare just because they thought we were being whores. Hah hah. What a chuckle.

I love ya! My brother and his girlfriend both had something similar to what you're describing, this skin pigmentation. It was sudden and his girlfriend had it very bad, it was all over her sides, neck, chest, arms, legs. They told her it had to do with producing too much testosterone in her body. She got a cream for it and if I remember correctly it's pretty much gone now.

I'm glad this one works out for you, wish me luck in finding my perfect blend of hormones! xD

A warning to the ladies here, if your skin starts looking like mine (this) then get off your birth control asap.

This is exactly what she had all over her body. I'll ask her what the cream she was prescribed was called next time I speak with her.
