The total area now being searched stands at 2.24 million square nautical miles, Hishammuddin Hussein, the Malaysian defense and transport minister, said at a news conference Tuesday. That's the same as 2.97 million square miles, or an area nearly the size of the continental United States.

Some is suggesting hypoxia knocked out everyone and the autopilot kept flying the plane for 6 more hours

That wouldn't really explain how the transponder and other electronics got turned off (seemingly manually and intentionally).

CNN - "A relative of a missing passenger briefed by the airline in Beijing said, "They have told us all lives are lost."
This just makes my heart ache for the families.
This is all just so mind-boggling, I hope for the sake of the families we don't have to wait too terribly long to find out exactly what happened.

I don't think many more details will surface and I doubt they'll ever know exactly what happened to be honest.
This seems like the final statement imo. "The plane crashed, no survivors, end of." type deal.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but doesn't that seem a little suspicious to you?
I understand wanting to give families closure, but informing people that their loved ones are dead (which was already pretty safe to assume, even if they were in denial or still hoping for a miracle) without knowing what really happened isn't really closure, is it?

Yeah, definitely.
This really seems like a "we're washing our hands clean of this investigation" type answer to the families.

I feel like to officially close the investigation they have to retrieve the wreckage, like they did with that Air France crash. It might take them forever, but they will still look to find it and to investigate what went wrong.
From my understanding, they have stated that they now know that it did crash in the ocean so no survivors, but they are still looking to locate the exact location of the wreckage.

There are still people clinging to hope; it must be very hard for them

But remember just because it isn't officially a "closed case" doesn't mean it won't go cold. People go missing and are never found and it's not like the entire time search crews keep looking. The cases get thrown onto a shelf and months maybe even years later they might get poked at.

Yea I guess that's true, forgot to think about it that way.

I think the worst part is that they texted the families to let them know.

i've watched aljazeera report on youtube that says they're giving the text through anonymous numbers and in english.... unbelievable. it's kinda weird because day in day out i see in the local newspapers that chinese family members brought to malaysia praise malaysia for assisting them and how they handled the situation.
chinese netizens are currently cyber-bullying malaysian singers based on china. poor them. ![]()

troll pilot got people searching at every corner of the continent and it turns out to be in africa? ![]()

i do hope the debris belongs to mh370 but i highly doubt it. it's just too far away.

It's been one year, it's possible to be that far from the supposed crash.troll pilot got people searching at every corner of the continent and it turns out to be in africa?

Troll pilot? What pilot? The pilot wasn't in the plane? ![]()
Tides can be very powerful. Powerful enough to expose/hide/move ships wrecked in the bottom of the ocean. Why would be that doubtful to move an air plane wing, specially since it's been 16 months?

i'm referring to the pilot changing the direction of the plane which basically triggered this whole mess of a saga.
EPIC TROLL PILOT IS EPIC
i'm skeptical because i've read a report months ago that any debris could only be found on indonesian coasts because of wave direction and stuff. so yeah.
i guess we should just wait for the experts to confirm this.

But who can guarantee it was the pilot that made that decision/action? The only people who know it are missing, everything else is mere speculation. Hell, data can be faked/changed/modified. Who really knows, besides of few people inside that plane, what the hell really happened?
