Would you give up a well paid, relatively secure career just because a very small minority of the people you'd be required to encounter say things which you disagree with? I doubt it. :p

Yes.

What type of career is there where you wouldn't be required to tolerate people whose beliefs differ from your own? And how do you benefit from being intolerant to others' beliefs? The implications of leaving any job when someone you encountered expressed something that you disagreed with are dire at best.

Pretty much all occupations that aren't peacekeeping are required to be impartial to personal philosophies. Every other profession, you don't. I'm not saying I'm a defiant bastard. I defy any and all unsolicited hatred. I'll tolerate views and expressions, but certainly not something such as racism. I'll stand up for that and guard my honour.

    It's okay :)

Then you're crazily idiotic in my opinion. Sometimes it's better to lose the battle then win the war. It's called living in a democratic society. I tolerate religious beliefs and systems yet I disagree with it. That's society for you.

I'm going to guess you're a teenager without any responsibilities, outgoing goings or dreams to move out before you're 45.

    And you'd assume wrong :)

But I'll fill you in on your false assumptions:

I'm 19, finished ahead of my classes. Working on my honours. I'm a bookeeper, I'm an English Language tutor. I date, I party. I love people who are honest and above all honourable. I'm completely immersed in society. I'm way ahead of my years. Age ain't nothing but a number.

Why lose a battle when it's in your best interests to win? I'll keep my honour and dignity until the day I die.

Pfft, but now you're just being intolerant of intolerance.

xD Ah inception lol. Mmm, I'd say I'm intolerant of unjust tolerance.

I have my own opinions and I'll die loyal to each and everyone of them. I won't tolerate bias.

So I was right, again. Come back when you've learned what real life is like and not what your school tells, come back and tell me when you have some real responsibility.

You really shouldn't assume that you have learnt more about life than someone just because you are older. That is already an indication that you probably aren't in a position to boast about the wisdom you have accumulated.

Edit: This thread is not a competition as to who has learnt the most life lessons. If you aren't going to contribute to the original line of discussion then please refrain from posting.

If you had bothered to read the tangent, you'd understand quickly how wrong you are. As basic reading skills seem to be out of your depth, I'll leave it at that.

I lol, so bad at this. I won't tell you of my life stories, as their none of your business. You have no knowledge of what my life's been like, so don't assume that I have no life lessons - it's just foolish. All I gave you was a curricular list as to my activity in society.

Btw, try not to be so hostile, you don't know me, so don't comment.

If they are with knowledge that the person has no malicious intent and it is not affiliated with any malicious intent, then becoming offended is definitely being oversensitive. It's okay for something to bother someone or to upset someone. It's okay to be sensitive about the subject, but to make a fuss or make a scene and demand that people live their lives according to how they (the offended) want it is just the same mindset that they fear so strongly.

I suppose this is my general thoughts/views that can be applied to most cases of sensitivity..? Heh.

While I understand your intention was to insult him, maybe next time you should make sure the insult is logical. Those two subjects are irrelevant toward each other. Maybe instead word it as such, "I see your recent schooling hasn't taught you the difference between criticism and hostility...or has the alcohol washed away the lessons?"

If you're going to insult someone's intelligence at least demonstrate yours is superior.

Well it wasn't an insult, and it definitely wasn't a question of intelligence, that's obviously a wide misinterpretation by yourself.

If you've actually read the previous posts, it was about life experience and what it teaches you. For example, you don't fight every battle, that's not how you win a war.

If Magical think it's acceptable for me to challenge every racist remark I come across, I would have to arrest every old lady on the street who's a bit intolerant of "the darkies". I'd have to challenge the burglary victims and force them into a comfortable situation at their most vulnerable because someone said "I bet it was those niggers/Romanians". I'd have to retort every one of my seniors jokes, defriend anyone who made a flippant comment and make myself unpopular.

Which doesn't sound too noble, but unforunately I would find myself "gripping the rail" soon enough and I wouldn't have anyone to defend me. I would then lose my job, my pension and most likely see the insides of a prison cell, albeit only for a short time.

Because of that I'd sent to a VP wing full of child killers, rapists and peadophiles, because I'd be a target. I hopefully won't be attacked or stabbed in prison, because trust me, the judges love to make examples of people like me, and stabbings are daily.

I'd lose my car and wouldn't be able to afford a house not could I get another job. Because that's the nature of my game.

I don't hold a holistic view like Magical, that his morales don't bind him to material worth, maybe that's because I have more sense and responsibility than "partying with friends".

Maybe life would be easier if I were some little rich white kid at university, but then again, I know when some things are worth fighting, and some aren't.

"Well it wasn't an insult, and it definitely wasn't a question of intelligence, that's obviously a wide misinterpretation by yourself."
If that's not an attempt at insulting someone then what was that? You were trying to look down on him. Your words were hostile. Maybe "insult" wasn't the appropriate word. How about passive aggression?

    The rest of your post:
But you were trying to compare your life to his. He said you made the occupational choice where you are unable to uphold the values he does, which you did. You decided because of his age, race, or wealth that you suddenly know his life story or struggles. It's all really incredibly irrelevant to the thread's topic. He was rudely stating his opinion on your choice of tolerating what he disagrees with. He shouldn't try to push his values upon you but that doesn't give you open season to try and tell someone what their life is like. Is this really the kind of place to try to belittle others over petty disagreements?

As someone who knows when to pick battles, I'm surprised a forum argument is where your priorities are..?

It's all subjective, if you wish to view it as an insult, that's fine. Passive aggression doesn't really cover my intent either seeing as I don't view it as hostile.

It's common sense that dictates that the vast majority of teenagers, especially First World Country teenagers, don't have a lot of responsibilities. It's quite common for most children to have less responsibility than the adult. It's quite common for middle class families to have less responsibilities than working class families. Again, I was right. It all relates back to the original topic at hand, racism, and the divergence to a sub-point of challenging racism. If you wish to get emotionally involved and take criticism as a personal attack on behalf of someone else, that's fine. Just don't extend your moralistic attitude to others.

There isn't a debate. Spam is small, pointless, annoying messages. Which your previous point was.

Plus I take it you've nothing more to add to this discussion.
