Bollocks, I constantly tolerate racism, religious fanatics and other various negative embraces of society because I'm forced to, it doesn't mean I have a deep set of respect for people who think "all niggers should be deported" or "two benders shouldn't be getting married".

You've literally been given a dictionary definition of two words and you're still arguing pedantically.

So you tolerate racism? That's immensely dishonourable. Well at least you blatantly admit it.

I don't tolerate it. I defy it. And anyone who does tolerate it. Our society does not need discrimination. It's sad that you tolerate that shit.

He's in the police, as long as what's said isn't illegal then he has to tolerate it even if he disagrees with it. ;)

    Yes, it does.
You can't say you defy racism and do not tolerate it or anyone who tolerates it in one breath, and then discredit the feelings of actual Jewish people who find certain things offensive/racist, in the next breath. So, I'll wait until he's around to continue the discussion, I'm not going to sit here and play ping pong with you over something that's so clearly subjective, that's why I hadn't bothered replying to this topic until now.

Saying you feel it is not justified for Jews to get offended over certain things does not make one racist. Let's not get overly dramatic here :)

Edit: If you don't want to sit and play 'ping pong' then by all means continue to abstain from discussion rather than interjecting with unsubstantiated posts only to bow out when your view is challenged. That is a waste of time.

I didn't say that, let's not get condescending here. :)
I'm not going to bother, I was never speaking to you to begin with, I was initiating a discussion with Magical, but all you've done in this thread is tear people down for speaking against your opinions, you probably should have posted it in General Debate if you were planning on taking everything so personal.

But we don't actually 'tolerate' it. It's why we debate and rebut. If we tolerated it we wouldn't post :p

Debate is not personal. Philosophy is, however. It's a sensitive topic, which is why we need to cater to the utmost sensitive people. :)

    That's his choice.

No, it's the law. He's not there to personally judge the political beliefs of people, he's there to enforce the law as it stands and he has no choice over that.

It's not "certain things" though is it? It's "symbols of racial hatred and religious persecution".

Anyone who voted no is saying that it is no longer justified to be offended by a symbol used to depict racial hatred and religious persecution.

(again, I refer to my earlier point that it is not our place to tell people how they should feel... about anything)

I'm close to the fence on this one. I said no because I'm not in their shoes and I can't 100% know how they feel. But I can more than level with such ones :)

The nature of my question was effectively "is it justified that jews take offense to symbols of racial hatred and religious persecution given that there is no intent to aggrevate or offend?"

If you ignore everything following 'given' then obviously the poll and the thread are pointless. I thought everyone understood this from the get-go.

I should have clarified to avoid the confusion.

Would you give up a well paid, relatively secure career just because a very small minority of the people you'd be required to encounter say things which you disagree with? I doubt it. :p
