I'm currently talking about this with my coworker and I'm legitimately torn.

I personally don't wanna have kids for a plethora of reasons (none of them set in stone of course).

So I bring the question to you Codex. Do you wanna have children? Why or why not? How many?

And for those of you with children, would you have more children? How's it like to be a parent?

I deal with kids all the time and watch my nephew from time to time so I have no problem having them but I will not have them until I financially can support them

I wanna have three kids, but that's in a distant future. I wanna be able to be with them a lot and see them grow, and in the first years of a doctor, time is something you usually don't have :p

I watch my nephew during the week and that is enough for me. I barely can take care of myself, and my fiance doesn't want kids too. People say i'm too young to think about that and I will want kinds in the future... oh no dear, I won't.  :lol2:

I do not, in any shape or form, ever want kids.

On the other hand, I very badly want to move into a place that allows pets.

My reasoning for wanting 2-3 kids is a pretty odd one, and is as follows. My father is a deadbeat who never really took care of my sister and I. Sure he took us to the local pub on the weekend, got smashed, and drove with us in his truck...how lucky, right? There were also times where he'd take us to McDonalds for a quick meal...but other than that he was useless, and it's safe to say I wouldn't shed a tear if he were to die. All of that being said, firstly I'd want to be the father that I never had. I want to be there for my kids, to show them love, and instill proper discipline in them. Secondly, even though I have 48 cousins on my dad's side of the family, I'm the only male with my last name, so it's sort of up to me to continue the 'lineage'. Finally I've thought of adopting a child[ren], there's so many kids out there without a proper home, and who are put at a disadvantage by not having parents and sitting in the 'system'. No kid deserves to have a handicap in life.

Feels dude, my dad was also a deadbeat. Left my family, never called, or showed that he cared. I know your exact reasoning. I want kids to show them love and affection that I never had. I do show that to my nieces and nephew though. I love them to death and see them atleast once a week and play with them or do something fun with them. Anyways...

Yes I want multiple kids. Already have the names picked out and everything!

Getting a vasectomy was the best thing I've ever done. Plus no contraception.

Definitely. I feel like as soon as I'm financially stable and in a supportive, lasting relationship, I'll want to start trying for the first kid. I don't have an exact number of kids I'd want, but at least two. My best friend has two older brothers and seeing how they vibe makes me love the idea of two boys and a girl. But obviously that part isn't something you can control.

    I do.

    Wife doesn't.

Even if it does happen we'd probably go the adoption route.

Too many kids had a rough break and shouldn't be forced to live in an overcrowded, broken system.

Ideally start with an older boy so he could eventually look after/be a role model for the younger ones.

Then a girl and a boy (either order or at same time) after that.

I don't mean to belittle your reasoning but...is that really a valid reason to have a kid?

It seems like it's more about making up for your bad childhood then actually raising a kid well.

It would have to be in the distant future. I thought about it with Turnip for a while, but after watching my nephew and seeing how draining having a kid would I'm far from ready for any.

At least I get paid to see my nephew. I'd have to sink money into my own kid. :/

I have 2 kids, a boy and girl and (cliche) they are my world. I do want to have more, in the future, I came from a semi-big family. My hubby on the other hand was 1 of 2 kids, he wants more too though (even more than me!) Having kids for me is such a fulfilling role and there is nothing I wouldn't so for them.

On the otherhand, my married friend and his wife in no way shape or form want kids at all. I think it's sad that they have to explain to others often WHY they don't want kids, it's their decision? They get people saying "oh, give it a few years and your wife will be begging you" no, 1. it's not always then woman that wants children 2. they do not want kids hand downs!

But then again they also have two doggies that they treat as their babies  :p

I have kids, one is one.5 and the other is still cooking. They are a handful, but such a huge joy! My son drives me crazier than my husband has ever done, but i love him SO much and cant imagine what life would be like not to have him around anymore.

Whether or not my husband and i want more kids largely depends on how well the existing ones are behaving. The first few months of my sons life we were out, no more kids, ever. Then he got cuter and sweeter and BAM we got pregnant.

Motherly instinct did not come naturally to me at ALL. I still wonder if i have any. All i know is that i love my babies and that they will grow up knowing it whether they like it or not lol.

Well I guess I'll give you the short answer. Because it's something that I want to do. Anything else is irrelevant. Is that what you wanted? Also, if my bad childhood is my resolve to raise my kid(s) better, what's wrong with that?

You know, me and Elin were definitely into having 1-2 kids but holy shit
    we've been looking after his almost 2 year old nephew for about 2 months and we're so tired. I'm ready to sleep for like 5 years straight. And we've got it easy mode since we can only get him for like 4-10 hours out of the day, if at all. We all have loads of fun but this little boy just can't sit still, even when he's obviously exhausted ;_;

Also nasty baby shit in the diaper?? Runny shits?? Just kill me now

I definitely want kids. I've thought about being a parent since I was 6 as something I've just always wanted.

However, children for me may never happen since it will never happen accidentally and would be a long, complicated, arduous and ultimately, expensive process. I also note that most people I've dated, maybe it's because of their age, do not want to have children. But I'm pretty young still so I guess I'll see.

I have one child, I wouldn't mind another when further financial stability arises.

However the child will be one I adopt.

No idea why you got so defensive lmao.

I'm questioning my own resolve, what makes you think I won't question yours?

I'm not asking if your bad childhood is the reason why you wanna raise kids well.

I was just asking if your "bad childhood" is enough of a reason to want to HAVE kids.

I guess I can underline stuff angrily too.

I don't see the need of a reason to want to have kids, so what's wrong if that's his only reason (which I know it's not the only one)?

Is your childhood a VALID reason?

I'm not saying it's the only reason.

I'm not asking if it's the only reason.

I'm asking if it's truly valid.

Your defensiveness answered my question though.

    Thank you.

I just dunno why he got defensive. :/

Just because I underlined a phrase in order to make it stick out in hopes that you might understand means I'm getting defensive?
