I do enjoy food but I'm also really practical about it. I know what you mean, I don't even like eating out that much because it's always this huge process of coming down with a place that everyone is ok with...and along the way somebody gets offended and then it's just awkward and I could just do without it all and stay home for some ham and cheese sandwiches.

One of my friends is a huge foodie so we're always exploring different restaurants, it's super cool because I never have to think about what we're going to eat, just have to show up at a certain time and date. The last time we met up was at Jules Bistro which ended up being really good. However now that she moved I'll probably be going on less food adventures

I bet it would be a lot easier for me if I didn't have cases of pop in my house all the time. My boyfriend is a pop nut and ALWAYS has a pop open. Probably drinks 6 or 7 a day so it's always there. I always have a case of water and drink that but the pop tastes better.

I've had to kick my boyfriend's butt about doing stuff like that. Doctor wants me to eat and drink healthier, so what does the boyfriend unit do? Buys even more soda/junk/etc and eats/drinks it in front of me or leaves it in easily accessible places. :(

It's so hard to stick to a diet when you're the only one doing it.

I change my mind, cottage cheese is my favorite.

I could never get in on that. I needed too generous amounts of salt or something, it just lacks flavor for some reason. Then I needed something to wash it down with, hot pasta or potatoes usually.

I really like green tea in Japanese restaurants around here because I think they tend to use genmaicha. Originally I thought it was weird because it tasted like they just boiled water in a pot with burned rice but that taste totally grew on me over time

Genmaicha freaked me out too the first time I tried it. Like why would anyone want burned rice water. But it really gets quite soothing and refreshing when you've overdone savoury or greasy food. Have you tried sobacha? It's quite similar and supposed more healthy.

My boyfriend is horrible for it. I tried to quit smoking, and we both smoke. Well, I quit, he still smokes, and I can see him through the glass doors while he's out there. Smoked around me all the time. I did stop for 7 months but ended up starting again because I make bad choices sometimes.

If it's for myself I pretty much steep for as long as possible. Like until it gets cold and then I drink it. Unless it's green tea/erl grey/breakfast.

I drink my tea (earl grey and breakfast) really really dark. So I steep it for way too long and I leave the bag/leaves in the cup as I drink. Other people who drink tea have been mildly outraged that I don't strain it and that I oversteep.

Does anyone perceive an actual difference between english breakfast and irish breakfast?

*giggles* Do you wish that you were more in touch with your heritage ever?

Definitely. I feel like I've failed my mother because there's nothing about me at all that's Polish aside from appearance. T_T I don't like the food, I can't speak the language, I know very little about the culture. I feel like I would be a lot closer to her and that side of the family if I was more in touch with the heritage. It does not help that a lot of them also speak no English at all, so we can only communicate with hand gestures and simple phases.

I change my mind, cottage cheese is my favorite.

I had extreme anxiety about cottage cheese because the texture doesn't look very appealing to me. But then my mother made me some blintzes ( commonly stuffed with cottage cheese ) and I ate them unaware of what was in them.

    PFwpv5t.jpg

I love them and cottage cheese now.

My boyfriend also loves soda so I know EXACTLY HOW THIS FEELS. Every grocery store trip is another 12 pack or 2 of Coke or Dr. Pepper. And then I sit next to him and watch him drink it and hngggg. It's like rubbing it in my face, lol. >_<

I haven't heard of sobacha before :o. I need to look for it the next time I'm at the store. Thanks for the recommendation!

I think the worse when it comes to food I can't have with my boyfriend is when he goes and buys a lot of juice but doesn't check the ingredients for it, and they all have pineapple or cranberries in them and then I HAVE to drink the pop because he'll conveniently forget the case of water. And no one wants to drink the tap water around here. It comes out yellow.

Never fails. If it's something for him he'll never forget. But if it's something for you it's a 50/50 shot it won't make it home.

I can't tell, is Jules Bistro super expensive or moderately upper priced? 12.50CAD for a croque-monsieur sounds more than a little steep unless it was absolutely divine

I feel the same way, I'm like 95% Canadian with maybe 5% Chinese and people just assume that I know how to speak the language because of how I look and then look at me ashamed when they realize all I can do is speak English. Although if you asked @Jess she'd probably tell you I'm way more Chinese than that, just feels that way around all my asian friends. Still haven't had jackfruit before, only had mangosteen and durian for the first time in the past 12 months. Heck I only learned how to use chopsticks when I was around 12 or so because my dad "didn't want me to starve" as a child. But my dad doesn't really care, when we go to the asian grocery stores or restaurants half the time he speaks to them in English because "it's easier"

It was reasonably priced, I think it was around 30 dollars each for the 3 of us.

Basically that haha. I won't grocery shop with him either because he takes 4 hours in the store. FOUR HOURS! Like really. We have the same food all the time, it's not that hard to go grocery shopping. I go with him occasionally and then am reminded of why I stay home.

Oh god, yes. Mine spends forever browsing and looking at absolutely nothing. Half the time I end up having to abandon him in the store and go finish the general shopping on my own. (Usually he'll catch up to me later carrying an armful of snacks or some random cheaply made plastic doohickey he found. "Omg we need this for reasons. It makes DINOSAUR SHAPED SANDWICHES!")

I was going to tell you not to quit until you at least beat Swarles and took a screenshot.

I'm still terrible at using chopsticks, I mean I'm alright but things slip out of my grip all the time. Not quite serious, but check out the #disgrasian tag if you ever have the time and you'll see that you're not alone in thinking that. I think lots of people are closer to their heritage than they realize though

The first things people ask me when I tell them I'm Polish: Can you speak it? Do you like the food? Have you ever been to Poland? No, no, and .. no. Ugh, I'm a failure. T~T Did you ever want to learn how to speak Chinese? A lot of the asian friends I have are surprisingly fluent in both languages. However, boyfriend is Chinese and he can only understand it, not write or speak it.

If my boyfriend saw this he would refuse to leave the store until it was in checkout with the rest of our food. Just like how normal chicken nuggets are simply unacceptable if there's dinosaur ones available. It sounds like they would get along.

That's because the crust was not worthy of awesome. Meanwhile I need to go grab a quick sandwich which will be sadly regular and distinctly undinosaur like. For all my talk of cheese, I'll be having processed cheddar because convenience.

But I guess the more important question is if you want to do any of that. Do you want to learn to speak it? Know how to cook or even just appreciate when a dish is considered well cooked? Go to Poland?

I managed to get most of my friend's roommates to buy this instead of regular nuggets the one time they made the mistake of going grocery shopping with me.

I'd be very interested in learning how to speak it. I always admired people that were able to speak fluently in more than one language. It's much harder now that I'm older and wasn't raised learning it. I also no longer live with her, so learning it from her would be difficult. I don't think I have the discipline, time, or patience to get in to it now. :( It's just something I wish she taught me as I was growing up. The cooking and food .. not so much. I'd also love to go to Poland, meet family, and see the places where she grew up and why they were important to her. Traveling in general just seems very cool, as it's never something I've had the opportunity to do. Visiting a place that was important to my family would just make it more "special".

I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST COOL SHAPED CHICKEN NUGGETS. My only issue is that they're usually more expensive than the generic types and hey, groceries can get expensive quick as is.

On that note, it's 1:40 in the morning. Time for sleep. Post on, award seeking warriors! I'll drop back in later today.
