Turns out Bernie actually won Nevada because Clinton delegates didn't show up. I also read on the second link that Bernie delegates were threatened with arrest if they showed up but they showed up anyway.

These voter ID laws are so fucked up, voting should never take this long. Polls closing in five minutes lines still very long in some places
Did you see John Oliver's segment on voting?

I don't see anything wrong with being required some sort of ID to vote.

In theory, nothing. But there are a lot of reasons it's a bit ridiculous. Usually, they won't accept certain forms of ID that should work, like passport or whatever. Which is dumb. Any photo ID should work. But they may only accept certain forms like just driver's licenses. That's where shit gets tricky - old people with revoked licenses wouldn't be able to vote, students that go out of state for college, etc. A friend of mine wasn't able to vote today because she just recently moved across country and her driver's license was still good, so it wasn't a priority to switch over given her health issues, moving and other arrangements. She had other forms of ID and even proof of residency and they wouldn't let her vote today.

A passport is the ultimate form of identification and should always be accepted.

I was turned away from a bar for using my passport when I lost my state ID. It seems to me like it would be way easier to fake a state ID than a passport but hey I don't make the rules.A passport is the ultimate form of identification and should always be accepted.

I understand why Passports don't have addresses on them but it also seems a bit ridiculous that they don't considering they're seen as the ultimate form of ID and yet they get turned down all the time. I almost couldn't vote in my election here because my passport doesn't have my address on it. If the reason that a passport doesn't have an address on it is because people tend to move then why did my license renewal last just as long

I run into a lot of circumstances now where you need more than one piece of ID; voting, the bar, gov't services, jobs, etc.
I couldn't get into a place to drink because I didn't have two pieces of government issued photo ID.... like what the what!?
There's some small country in Europe that has resident cards and people use them to vote.... even online.

I think it's really lame to stipulate that someone has to have an address to vote. Like it basically bars any person who's homeless or doesn't have a permanent address from voting. And all that "you have to vote in your precinct" mess. I don't understand why that's a thing. Like what makes my vote any less valid if I do it where I live vs on campus (where I seem to be more than I'm in my actual home lately). Once I tried to vote on campus because I had classes all day and by the time I got out all the polls would be closed and I was basically told that since I lived in the next city over I could only vote absentee and it basically wouldn't be counted so it would be a waste of time to even do that.

Because if you aren't voting in the appropriate place, you likely will receive a ballot that contains races for which you're ineligible to participate in.

Some (not all) elections involve the area in which you live. We have say MP's for our neighbourhood or a city counsellor. I think a major part of the issue is the paper ballot which means they only have the ballot for each area at each station. That creates an issue where people like yourself or others who face the issue (working across town is another example) aren't able to vote.
In Canada you can vote even as a homeless person, you can either get a letter from a shelter/lodge you've stayed at or received help from OR you can be vouched for by another vote who swears an oath that you are who you say you are.
There are issues with this system and in my eyes it stems from the fact that you used to have to be a landowner to vote. Now you don't have to own the land just live on it....

So, little update: that friend who couldn't vote because she had the wrong ID despite being a resident of the state?
She was able to vote.
She paid $100 to get her vote counted (dunno the specifics but that's what it took to make it happen). I'm so angry. There are people who would not even be able to eat if they did what my friend did to get her vote counted. What the fuck.

That really sucks. God forbid "making people pay to vote" becomes a requirement...

Yeah. I think the money went towards getting the 'correct' ID in time to get her vote counted. I don't know how. But yeah. For some people, that's not possible. And it shouldn't be between choosing to vote and eating that week.
She is using her story and some news folks are picking it up though. Hopefully this will illustrate why these voter ID laws are absurd as fuck.

Wow that really sucks I thought we banned poll taxes? Guess not.
I don't know if it was taxes, or like the cost of getting an expedited ID that would suit Wisconsin officials to make her vote count. I can ask her though.
