So the Arizona primary was a huge mess and anyone who wasn't registered as D, R or Green votes won't be counted supposedly, even though Arizona has a semi-closed primary meaning unaffiliated or 'no-party registered' votes are supposed to count.

http://usuncut.com/p...rizona-primary/

I'm curious about the alleged bomb threats that were 'suspiciously' timed according to the above article.

Here are so more articles about the AZ primary:

Not surprised we've got another state with voter issues. We already had Ohio sued, and Bernie won, and now Arizona. Like the regular US public actually picks their own president. No, no we don't. Not with the states screwing up their voting rules and possibly screwing up the results of elections so we possibly end up with people who might not have been there in the first place....

Source? Granted I didn't do in-depth research, but this CNBC article as well as the listing on Ballotpedia say that Arizona has closed primaries. If that is the case, then of course those votes won't count. I prefer closed primaries honestly (even though my state is semi-closed), as the CNBC article points out, Donald is extremely successful in states that allow Democrat and/or Unaffiliated voters to vote in the Republican Primary, whereas he's only 6 for 14 in closed primary states.

I don't even know who would be held accountable in AZ. I suspect the current state officials and state government are somewhat responsible and if I'm not mistaken, AZ is a red state, so it could be voter suppression from that side trying to hold back support for the Democrats. But I honestly don't know enough.

Ballotpedia says Arizona has a hybrid-primary, and that independent/unrecognized/unaffiliated counts if someone votes partisan in a primary election. Wikipedia says Arizona holds semi-closed primaries. And finally, FairVote states similarly.  The first article I shared had a picture of a piece of paper given to all voters, stating independent/unrecognized/unaffiliated won't count.

So everything I've read says that independent/unrecognized/unaffiliated partisan votes in the AZ primaries are legal and should count. But polling places are claiming otherwise. That seems sketchy as fuck.

I have looked and found out that it's definitely a closed primary. You have to be affiliated with one of the recognized parties to participate. You can go to www.voteforbernie.org and choose Arizona as your state and it pops up "You must be registered Democrat to vote for Bernie."

I actually like that handout and have passed it along to some friends. In North Carolina, provisional voting is essentially a waste of time, and people still do it, but the legislators are so afraid of "telling someone they can't vote" that the poll workers here don't even comment on provisional status. If anyone has questions about provisionals, the workers just tell them to call the local Board of Elections for questions and concerns.

I heard an old lady fainted while waiting in line just to cast her vote. If someone would be to blame for Arizona it would be the Voter Registration office, the state officials and state government...

(In my mind all of Hillary and her staff should be investigated every time this happens. I don't trust her at all, and I don't trust she wouldn't do something like this to win, after what happened in Iowa with her people wearing Bernie shirts and trying to convince everyone they worked for Bernie when they didn't. Plus the emails thing too). Suppressing independent voters, (if it isn't a completely closed primary) suppressing minority voters affects Bernie a ton because those people tend to vote for him more so than they vote for Hillary. So they're basically suppressing Bernie voters, like what happened in Ohio with the voting age stuff (which Bernie did win in court).

Why is there such conflicting information then? I've read various sites saying it's semi-closed. What the actual. :/

    @talbs this is from FairVote

Voters registered as independent, no party preference or members of a party without ballot recognition may vote in the partisan primary election of their choice. Voters registered in a recognized political party may vote only the primary election ballot for their political party. Ariz. Rev Stat § 16-467; Ariz. Att'y Gen. Op. No. I99-025 (R99-049)

Maybe its another voter fraud thing People think their votes will be counted, so they go vote, but they're not. Or they think they won't be counted, so they don't go to vote when actually their votes would be counted. Either way, having democrats suddenly listed as independents and libertarians is wrong, and something is definitely wrong in Arizona.

    I'm not sure.

But I did a bit more digging. It appears AZ has a semi-closed congressional primary - not presidential.

Regardless, reducing the polling locations in Maricopa is still shady af.

Jeez, you guys voting system sounds so confusing? How come you can't just vote for who you like on the day? This whole party before candidate thing is so strange to me.

It kinda makes more sense to have a semi closed presidential primary not a congressional one in my opinion, maybe Arizona should change that. Either way, at least they weren't breaking rules when not counting independent votes. (Even though some people got listed as independents when they're actually democrats and such).

The entire purpose of the primary is to select the candidates you want to represent your party in the General Election, where you are then free to support whomever you like, regardless of partisan affiliation.

Cool to know. I had forgot to look into this once I got home from work.

Hey guys, I'm not really familiar with US elections, and most of the things that are talked about lately is how Trump seems to be winning everywhere. Is that true? If so, is there really a chance of him actually winning?

There's always a chance. He is the front runner at the moment to be the Republican nominee. There is a lot of talk of the party nominating someone else at the convention if Trump doesn't secure the required amount of delegates. If that's the case, the Democrats will easily win in November. If Donald is the eventual nominee, I don't believe any of the current polls are suggesting he can beat Bernie or Hillary, so it really depends on how much stock you put into polls. You never really know who is going to turn out on Election Day.

As much as I dislike Hillary, gotta be careful blaming her for stuff like this. She's definitely super shady, but having been to Arizona a few times and if you read almost any article about shit that goes on in that state it's pretty clear how corrupt they are. I think while this is definitely a conscious effort to reduce voter turnout, I think it has more to do with it being a corrupt red state than Hillary being a mastermind in voter fraud.

I don't think this has anything to do with the DNC or Hillary, to be frank. It makes more sense to blame the Republicans, who control that state, and have always made an effort to keep red states as red as possible through gerrymandering, voter suppression and such. It's not shocking to see that Maricopa is mostly Latino populations and they are the ones who got fucked. And I'm sure blue states employ the same shady tactics.

No. By all estimates, if the Republicans nominate Trump, they lose. Either Democratic candidate beats Trump in hypothetical matchups in the general election.

He's winning (in the primaries) because there are no other republicans with national name recognition that aren't hated. Cruz has made real and lasting enemies in the Senate, even among his own party. Rubio was being groomed for the job, but he had a chance back in 2013 to break onto the national scene, it seems to have gone downhill from there. Jeb Bush, brother of GWB, seemed to rely on speaking spanish and his family name to get elected, which didn't fly with the xenophobic elements of the republican party. No other candidate broke 10% in a primary, besides John Kasich in his home state, which isn't very impressive considering he only had to beat a new Yorker in Ohio.

It's just a shitty year for the republicans. No one with a conscience wants to be associated with the party :/

Edit: BTW my source for those hypotheticals is RealClearPolitics which aggregates polls with biases in both main directions (ie, Fox News as well as Bloomberg).

They should just go the whole hog and have Trump competing with Walter Palmer for the nomination.

Just got an email from Bernie, apparently national polls show him at 49% and Hilliary at 48%. Yet, she continues to win states when the national poll shows that people prefer Bernie....and we have the issues in Iowa, Ohio, and Arizona with voting.....hmmmmm

Yeah it's basically the fault of the Republican politicians in AZ who decided to close over half the polling places "to save money" (aka voter suppression). This is what happens when key provisions of the Voting Rights Act are struck down by the Supreme Court because contrary to popular belief, we don't actually have a guaranteed right to vote.

I understand why New York has a deadline months before their primary, to prevent voters from switching over suddenly and swaying elections, but October is just way too early. It's ridiculous! So much can happen between Oct. and April and if you're an independent and want to have a say in who represents you for president, you can't unless you make your mind up 7 months before hand, which is absurd.

What Ortin said. People will always tend to use the one poll that benefits them. I like RCP because they use a combination of lots of polls to get a better estimate. But even then, RCP had Romney winning the election in 2012. Polls aren't always right.
