It's time for Bryan's rant time! Woot, go me.
Anyways, I'm just going to start this off by answering the question to the poll.
Do you personally approve of the posting of pro-drug topics on NeoCodex?Yes
And now it's time for my rant =)
So, I am going to start with a rebuttal. Woot. Anyways, the most abrasive and disturbing point that I've read in this topic is the fact that NeoCodex is a kid's site. I've just read the Terms of Service and the "Rules" of NeoCodex, plus I read the FAQ and Newbie Guides, and not once did I come across the Administrators deeming Codex a "kid's site." In fact, the only thing I've noticed even regarding age is the fact that the content contained on this site is legally available to minors. So, I have absolutely no idea where this whole idea came up about NeoCodex being a kid's site. In fact, it's explicitally stated as an Online Community for Gaming and Programming. Sure the main focus of this Gaming and Programming is Neopets, but it certainly isn't limited to that. The assumption that NeoCodex is a kid's site because it is legally accessible by minors is completely ludacris. You know why there are age restrictions for forums, because content contained in them is deemed not suitable (by some larger entity) for people under that age. You can (legally in fact) view sites such as Erowid.Org and Urbandictionary.Com that contain many more in depth discussions about drugs. In fact, if you read Urbandictionary's Terms of Service, it says that "It is not appropriate for all audiences", and that "If you do not consider yourself an appropriate user or are offended, do not visit". Urbandictionary has more submissions than does Codex, and to be honest I find that it is a bit more derogatory and vulgar than the "massive amount of topics" on Codex discussing drugs. UD seems not to have a problem posting about these things, and it is legally accessible by minors... I don't see why the Users on Codex should be prohibited from it.
You know, I really wasn't going to rant about this, but it sparked a little fire in me.
Laws are made for a reason and you're obviously brainwashed by drugs.
Although this has nothing to do with answering the poll question, I just wanted to answer it.
That statement has to be one of the most idiotic I've seen on Codex. Laws are made because Governments dictate what the people can and cannot do. Yes they are made for a reason, but they do not always make sense. Jaywalking is illegal, because it presents a danger to drivers on the road. However, just a few days ago, I saw an old couple blatantly jaywalking into heavy traffic. A Police Officer actually had to stop for this couple, or else he would have hit them, but no citations were made. Laws are made to protect, but protection differs with individuals. And to say that anyone is brainwashed by drugs is asinine. To brainwash is to have "the use of express or implied threats of violence or reprisal (as discharge from employment) or other intimidating behavior that puts a person in immediate fear of the consequences in order to compel that person to act against his or her will." To say that drugs will force a person to act against what they believe in is moronic and idiotic, but perhaps I'm just analyzing your vocabulary too thoroughly.
Hey, tell me a bit about your parents... What do they do for a living? In most cases people do drugs because of having bad parents... So... how fucked up are they?
Just completely uncalled for. Attacking parents and asking what they do to support a family?
"In most cases people do drugs because of having bad parents..."
In all cases, people do drugs because they themselves decide too. Having bad parents is just mere coincidence, but the media seems to make that proof.
Back on topic =)
Brkn, there is more to this topic than you're letting on, and I find it completely unfair for you to argue against points when you yourself aren't giving your complete points.
Drugs are illegal in America and other countries. However, America and these other countries haven't said that discussion of drugs is illegal. Drugs can be used freely by "minors" in certain countries, why should a Web-Forum (available to any individual in the world) prohibit the right to discuss it? Marijuana is legal in Amsterdam, why not in America? Because the group that is the most powerful in America has decided that it is harmful. (Keep in mind that these "studies" on drugs and their "consequences" are available throughout the whole world) Individuals decide different things based on their experience. In this case, individuals just means government.
Sooo, to end my rant. I personally think Pro-Drug discussion should be allowed. Unless administrators decide to bring morals and ethics into question (which differ from EVERY SINGLE individual), I cannot see a reason why it shouldn't.
To end
Maybe I was wrong if the admins are too blind to see that the auctal young people on this site don't want to read about drugs.
Maybe young people don't want to see the "Hottest People of the Opposite Sex", but you agree with it as an individual, so you aren't attacking that.
