Anybody out there ever tried their one rep max?

For those of you who don't know....your one rep max is a way of determining your maximum strength for a particular exercise. You can perform a one rep max test for any exercise but generally people use it for Bench Pressing.

Always use a spotter if you try this. Unless of course you have a Smith Machine to be the spotter for you tongue.gif.....and make sure you warm up. Personally I would only suggest trying this if you are very experienced in the gym.

My one rep max currently stands at 187lbs (85kg). I have a competition going with my work colleagues at the moment. The winner is the person who can increase their one rep max the most over a one month period.

Post up your one rep max people!!

What did you manage then hab?

Increased my one rep max yesterday. Only by 2.5kg....but I guess that isn't too bad when you get to that kind of weight. So I'm up to 87.5kg now (192.5lbs)

Oaken, how much do you weigh?

My max is only 100 pounds but I didn't warm up properly or have that long of a resting time inbetween reps. I weigh like 130 1we8.gif.

It's got nothing to do with proving something. As I already said, it is a test of your maximum strength. You are only going to injure yourself if you don't warm up, don't stretch or try and lift something rediculous.

You should perform your one rep max before doing anything else. Any exercise you have done before hand will reduce the amount you can lift when trying your max due to muscle fatigue.

I weight about 180lbs. Most of that is in my legs tongue.gif.

Oh, I was told that I should bench 50% of my max, wait about a minute, bench 70% wait another minute and then do my max.

I don't even do barbell benches, it's too annoying to get a spotter and it's one of the more injury prone exercises.

My gym is filled with "tough guy" military personnel that are always in your face about shit, so a spotter will arrive even if you don't ask. tongue.gif

I dunno my max. It's totally different depending on free lifting, or a machine. Machine is 240, but I'm guessing maybe 120-140?

I'm 105 pounds and my max is 110. Sorta weak, but I'm pretty small. I'm working on getting it up though. I want to be able to do 135 within a month smile.gif

Better start eating, that large of an increase is quite the jump!

i could be doing my math wrong. let me re-do it. well i can do reps of 10 at around 950 lbs. this is leg press not squat keep in mind. and what events in track? cuz if you are doing distance (and by distance i mean anything over 400m) then you tear down your fast twitch muscle fiber which is what helps me do high weights... all depends on how you want to train. and i play football... which is a bit moer based on power then track... which is more muscle endurance
